So starting out tell us a little about yourself. Anything we don't know about you? how long you been in the league? Who brought you in?
Well first of all, I am answering these questions at a hotel in Baton Rouge as I've stopped on my trip home from Houston to SC to see my little sister graduate from high school. I think most everyone knows my background except for a few posters who are newer to the league. I went to college at South Carolina, work in logistics for a safety/industrial supply company, recently quit and returned to my job, live with devine, live shouted a breakup with my ex in a Wal-Mart parking lot, etc. I'm not sure if there's not a part of my life since I joined that an haven't really shared with TMBSL.
As far as joining the league goes, I was recruited by Duc (iirc) to take over the 2.0 Nets after user Jorge had allowed them to fall into ruin. We were in sim year 2012 because Canes had drafted all time great Anthony Davis with the Nets pick Jorge had traded him for some mediocre player like Starbury who was over the hill and retired that season. I had a solid run of 10-15 seasons before I lost interest and then I came back right in the twilight of 2.0 to win the final title of that iteration of TMBSL (it counts fuckers). I was a part of the failed 3.0 experiment and then originally GM'ed the Thunder (now Spurs) at the beginning of 4.0 for 12-15 seasons before my job got so hectic I was working like 80-100 hour weeks. Once work chilled out a little and MJ abandoned the Magic I made my triumphant-ish return.
Everyone is ecstatic to have me back and I am widely known as an innovative and successful GM. Next question.
New season starting. What are your hopes, dreams, and expectations for the Magic this sim? Remember I own your pick this year
Well we played like dogshit this first sim. The defense that wasn't that bad last year has been god awful so far this season. My hope is to just continue to make the playoffs, work on pumping points into my young wing players, and showcase ROY favorite Clark Kellogg. My hope is to just make it through this season, get Hurley and Walters locked in to long-term deals, and hopefully find someone who will offer something of value in return for Michael Beasley. I know the last one is a long shot. I expect my defense will straighten itself out a little and hopefully that pick won't provide much value.
I also hope that the Bucks suck and I can find a solid center prospect with that Bucks 3034 pick I've got.
Thoughts on this season as a whole? Winners, losers? Surprising teams? Disappointing teams? Any bold predictions?
Sim 1 Overreactions -
Holy fuck the Bucks defense is good AF. So much shot blocking.
I don't buy the Bobcats, they're definitely pretenders and won't make the playoffs.
We fucking suck. This is likely not an overreaction. Fuck me.
Why are the Pacers sort of good again. I literally don't understand it.
I can't figure out if the Lakers are good or not. They look good on paper but almost the exact same team nearly missed the playoffs last season.
Personal question, why did you never trade me Gallagher back? asshole
Because he's good but also fuck you. I think your best offer was a shitty 1st?
Personally, who are your 5 favorite GMs? 5 least favorite? Please feel free to throw some shade, we like banter.
5 Favorite:
Heebs
Fason
Pete
Duc
Trofie
All of the above are good people, easy to deal with, and I find them entertaining members of the sim league.
5 Least Favorite:
Eric - what can be said about Eric that can't be said about the shit I just took in this hotel toilet boom roasted
Dump - the next time we all pitch in for a cause on the board it should be for his long overdue speech therapy boom roasted
Druce - not a fan boom roasted
RV - should not be allowed to have good players on his roster, total waste of a GM slot boom roasted
Bankz - inferior podcaster and most frustrating GM to deal with boom roasted
HM - Canes - this guy is such a pussy, at the first sign of any confrontation he's throws up a white flag and starts shamelessly ass kissing in a very embarrassing way. No boom roasted here because this is a legitimate complaint and not a half hearted joke of an insult
What would you say is your worst and best moves in your GMing career?
Novels could be written and movies produced about the best moves of my career as a TMBSL GM career. IMO I will go with drafting Boogie Cousins and Al Jefferson in back to back drafts then acquiring WBF, Williamson, and Adams. We had a great couple years until "Congrats JHB" caused us to blow a 3-0 series lead, forced Boogie to sign with known talent killer RV, and killed my black lab.
Honorable mention is getting Rex Walters, Michael Brooks, and Todd MacCullogh plus picks for one year of Jerry Stackhouse.
Worst moves - trading Trof three firsts for Joe Alexander (think shittier Michael Beasley) and his max contract on a sign and trade when I probably could have signed him for the MLE, my 4.0 creation draft as a whole, trading away Kevin Brooks, all of my recent drafts while tanking, I think that's all I'd like to share for now.
Eric-Gate 2016.. where do you stand on the topic?
I still think the proper punishment should have been to leave Epstein as he was created but ban him from ever becoming a Knick.
Also Eric is a piece of human filth.
Who is one player in the league right now that you wish you could pluck from another team and put on yours?
Kevin Brooks
Brooks and Walters.....swoon
Baby come back....
Ok now that we got some league questions in; let’s get to a couple about you:
Trump vs Hilary. Steel cage match. Who are you putting money on?
If I had a dime for every thought I've given to this election, I'd have.....
ZERO DIMES
What was your best sporting event experience?
Well roughly 90% of my live sporting experience involves SC football since it's where I went to college and also my family had season tickets growing up. At my last count I was well over 100 games in person.
Top 3 Gamecock Moments:
1. Beating the shit out of #1 Alabama in Williams-Brice. Student section was as lit as I've ever seen it.
2. Beating #1 Kentucky in basketball my freshman year, Devan Downey single-handedly beat Boogie, Wall, and company.
3. Stomping the shit out of #5 Georgia at home my senior year 35-7. Student section was almost as lit as it was during #1
My top non-SC moments were from a Braves game and Thunder game. Went to see OKC play in OKC last season at the end of the year against the Rockets. We lost and I didn't get to see KD play but holy shit was it amazing to see what Russ does live. The other moment was witnessing an Evan Gattis walk off home run against the Dodgers, he hit a moon shot off the closer and it was incredible.
What are your top 5 drinks of choice?
Diet Mountain Dew
Milk
Lemon lime Gatorade
Shiner Bock
Dos Equis
Taco Sa1ad asks Better movie - Lucky Number Slevin or Inside Man?
The Prestige
Lastly let’s do some random hypothetical questions:
If you had a brain washing machine, who would you use it on?
I would be having so much sex with Taylor Swift, next question.
If you could wake up tomorrow in the body of someone else, who would you pick and what would you do? Why?
Russell Westbrook, just to see what it would feel like to be that fucking athletic
Repeat question but a good one: If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would it be?
I would really like to see a Cowboys game in the new stadium and a playoff game in OKC. As far as a specific a specific event, I wish I had been at the bowl game vs Michigan when Clowney destroyed that guy
Name the most terrifying moment in your life so far. Have you recovered form it?
When I was a senior in high school a woman jumped a curb and hit me in my drivers door going about 60 while I was stopped at a stop sign. I still have moments when I go to make right turns where I catch a glimpse of something out of the corner of my eye and nearly run off the road. Thankfully I walked away with no injuries.
Lastly, what do you think Victoria’s secret is?
This question is stupid. This interview is over.
