PLAYER HATERS BALL
For those of you who weren't around for the previous Player Haters Balls, the concept is pretty simple. I chose 3 GMs and asked them questions about the league/GMs in the league and told them that their answers would be kept anonymous. I (and the commish) are the only ones who know who participated. Their responses have been produced in random order below. There is no set order that repeats for each question. Using myself as an example. If I am the first response for question one, I am not the 1st response for question 2. If people want to identify their answers or say that they participated, that is completely up to them. I will not confirm or deny anything. Enjoy.
1. Soup has retired as commish. What are your honest thoughts about how he did as commish? What do you think about him leaving shortly after receiving a smoker and Xbox? (coincidentally Odin did the same thing) What did you think about his rule changes. Which ones did you like? Which ones did you not like? Would you get rid of any of them?

Soup was an outstanding commish and definitely the best we have had so far. He did so many little things like always having the software open, having sims at a consistent time almost every day, rarely taking days off, etc made TMBSL a much more pleasant experience for everyone. For the most part, I really like Soups rule changes. The Depth chart rule was probably my favorite. It requires everyone to go 8+ deep on their roster and prevents everyone from using all their cap space on their starting 5. There aren’t necessarily any rules I don’t like, but I would tweak the player eligibility rule to be more flexible for backup players. Overall, great job Soup, enjoy the retirement.
I think Soup was throwing serious hints of stepping down before we actually decided it was time to hook him up. It may be why some decided it was time to pay the man. His run was to notch and the changes were for the better of the league. Was he perfect? No, he had a very controlling way and if it wasn't his way it wasn't going to happen. He often butted heads with GMs but that's just in his personality.
Soup was an outstanding commish. The best ever without question. That said, he is a thin-skinned, emotional tyrant that let his power get to his head. I am interested to see how he adjusts back to being just another member of our community.
I don’t dislike any of his rules. I like that he outsourced player creation. I don’t have any problems with eric making players. I think it extended his run as commissioner and I would suggest that 20s consider continuing to allow eric to make players.
2. What are your thoughts on eric creating the builds for all the prospects? Does he have an unfair advantage, or does the fact that the commish can go in and change things even it all out? This is not an Epstein question.
If he were running the league I’d have an issue. He’s slightly better than canes, which means he sucks. I really couldn’t care less.
I can't hate on Eric. Is it a ideal situation? No. But Soup needed the assistance since he was burnt out. 20s seems to want to take more control of that aspect at the start of his run and that's cool. Has Eric took advantage? Possibly. He's had a few under the radar guys do really well and he also hit on the euro stud in a draft class that was awful. The Jesse shit was taking it too far but it was addressed and his hand was properly spanked.
I'm honestly fine with a GM building the players, but he sucks at it and everyone should be shown the same information he sees. 20s should just do all player making moving forward. And let us spend some dump bucks to make grades for players in these classes. I have tens of thousands burning a hole in my pocket. I understand those rewards are there now but they are far too pricey.
I don’t like it. It is too much information for one GM to have that the rest of the league doesn’t have access to. He has a massive advantage in drafts and in FA because he knows the guys he built and knows can make selections based off that knowledge. I don’t think he is intentionally creating sleepers with grade sets only he knows are good, but it is undeniable that he knows when he creates a player with B-/B- scoring grades, how they are “likely” broken down and can select/avoid based on that knowledge. IMO he should be making the “shells” of players and leaving the commish should be making the actual grades.
3. Outside of the obvious choice of Dump, what current GM do you hate to see show up in shout. What is is about them that annoys you/pisses you off. Serious question, if you had the power to banish said person from the league, would you?
This one is pretty easy. Ank and 2poor. Both love showing up and making shout about themselves. Ank loves calling other people out for random shit while completely oblivious to how annoying can be. 2poor is also a pretty easy one. When was the last time he showed up in shout and either didn’t take a personal shot at somebody or start talking politics?
Majic. Shut the fuck up dude. No one gives a fuck about your troll looking ass or your shitty ass football team. Congrats on the recent title and the upcoming 8-4 season, but hey that recruiting class is incredible and i can't wait to hear about it from him each day until signing day.
Ankly. He's so fucking annoying. He's a lot like dbl in the way I can't stand him on the internet but in person he's a nice dude. Fuck your qualification of it being a current GM. Ian. I can tolerate Ian’s pedantic bullshit when he is a GM, but the fact that he shows up with shitty opinions and isn’t even a GM frustrates me. There is nothing worse than a know-it-all that quit because he fucking sucked as a GM.

Canes you are fucking awful. You bitch about your team and then claim not to follow the league close enough when people call you out. So the solution would be to follow the league closer so you won't continue to fuck up. Nope. Also going all in on a rookie... why? 95% of rookies are not the difference maker in year one. Sorry for the bad luck because it was a rotten thing to happen. Shame on you Pete. It was equally funny to it's fucked upness. Seems like Odin is always complaining about his roster, the lack of trades he can make, the fact that his players suck or his team is shitty or a bad TC. You literally had one of the greatest offseasons a GM could ever wish for. Stop.
Odin. Stop. Come up with a 5-year plan and execute it. You get 2 or 3 years into a plan and then get impatient and fuck everything up. Stop doing that. Just stop. Stop.

Was gonna go in a different direction but after TC, it has to be dump. Are you kidding me dump? You have lucked your way into great teams multiple times, just did it again last offseason and you complain about how your TC sucked because some of your bench guys got worse? Nevermind that Bird had another great TC and is clearly getting plenty of love from the software. TMBSL is littered with #1 overall picks that had great starting grades before getting fucked by the software. Yet here you are complaining about your backups having a mediocre TC while Bird and JJ continue to be monsters.
Odin, Dump, and Taco. Everyone does it to an extent but these three plus Canes are awful to deal with when any little thing goes wrong. I guess in Taco's defense he has been fucked in every way possible since joining the league so maybe his bitchiness is justified.
5. Who is the GM that is the biggest douche/ass/bitch/whatever adjective you want to use
Heebs. He thinks he is better than everyone else in the league.

GBG is fucking horrendous. I give it my all to interact with him from time to time in the hopes he isn't as bad as I think he is. And every time I leave the new conversation thinking why in the fuck did I even attempt to interact with the guy. With that said he isn't some awful dude its just his outlook on sim shit is on the other spectrum compared to me. I don't think we have a ton of douche bags in this league. Outside of dump. 6. What are your thoughts on player contracts right now. Inflation/increased depth, plus the current DC rules have made it so a team needs to be 8-10 deep in order to win a title. As a result almost everyone who isn't tanking is up against the HC every offseason. Do you think the cap should be raised? Why. Also, if you don't think the cap should be raised, what do you think needs to be changed strategy wise to adjust?
I like the added challenge this cap cruch has created. Max contracts have become much more important and giving a max to the wrong guy can cripple a team. It is also much harder to get rid of a bad contract so GMs are more likely to be punished for a bad trade/signing. Obviously I don’t think the cap should be raised. As for how GM’s should adjust. Less maxes, less max raises imo. If someone wants to overpay for a borderline FA, let them and watch as they are unable to maneuver around the cap and the picks they traded away turn to gold.
The cap should NOT be raised. That’s lazy.
I honestly think the issue is that there is a very balanced player base right now. There are good-not-great starters that are getting big deals. It results in most teams not having cap space to offer legit stars. Remember when people bitched about how bad eric’s players were?
I wouldn't change the cap. The league is designed to be a challenge. Increasing the cap only helps those with piss poor GM abilities who can't manage a cap. I will say elite players signing for dirt cheap deals is complete bullshit. We can suspend some thoughts on how realistic aspects of this league are compared to RL. But a mega star signing a mid level contract is one I can't get past. LeBron, Westbrook ect are not signing for anything less than max. And even if its not max its not far off.
I think there may be something there but not enough research has been done yet. There have been a few ideas mentioned that I liked and a few I don't. Under no circumstance should we raise the softcap because that would change max contract structure, and the hard cap probably should be touched either. I don't think 85m would be the end of the league but I'm not sure it's necessary. My favorite suggestion was reducing the wait time on buyouts, maybe even get rid of it entirely. Limit it to one per year and that should solve most of the problems that we might not even be having.
7. Despite not being a GM for a very long time, Ian still loves to show up in shout and talk down to people about the software. What are your thoughts on his weird exit from the league and his refusal to rejoin the league unless he gets the team of his choice? Also, who is the better GM, Ian or Eric.
Ian put on those big boy pants and join the league. Your entire gimmick was knowing the software in and out and you impressed people because they didn't know any better. But Eric has demolished you point by point every single time a software topic has been discussed and exposed you as a fraud. But you still have that encyclopedia type brain of our early years so that's cool. Join a team you pussy.
I have no comment on Ian's exit because I really don't know what the deal was. I don't really understand why he won't return. I think he's a very good GM, much better than eric who is just taking advantage of inside information, and I'd love to have him back. He is a far better option than guys who join and show up in shout once a month to ask people to post a draft pick for them (MJ).
Ian’s exit was very odd. Most people have no problem giving a bit of insight into their personal lives, but Ian is obviously different. Regardless, his complete hiatus from the board is over and there are teams who need active GM’s. Stop crying about not getting your precious Timberwolves and take a team. Your stance on this is pathetic. I’d love to see Eric and Ian in the same division. Would be a lot of fun to watch. Imo eric is the better GM. Ian for all his knowledge of the software (despite eric proving him wrong at every turn) can never put a true contender on the sim court.
Ian obviously quit because he went all in with his team and he was a 4 seed. Whoops.
Eric has the better eye for talent. Ian is the more effective GM. Eric doesn’t really make trades. He’s not a good negotiator.
8. Who in your opinion are the bottom 5 GMs in TMBSL. What makes them the worst GMs?
1. JHB – he is still the Magic GM, right? Wait. It’s MJ? MJ then.
2. JW – I love JW. I think he’d be a highly effective GM if he gave 20 percent more effort. I’d be willing to help him GM if he reached out to me. Hit me up, JW.
3. AO – Should have blown it up years ago. He’s going to leave a crater of a franchise in his wake after sim Dump retires.
4. Canes – Grow a set of balls and do something with your team.
5. Ankly – he puts in a lot of effort for very little results. If there were a try-hard GM, it would be Ankly.
MJ - because he doesn't care, lives in 1850, and is just bad
Fecta - no experience. no offense to him, he's just here by default
jw - same reason as mj although he has internet
duc - same as jw
spl - i mean dear god, what does this guy do right? nice tank you bald fuck.
1) Heebs - Dishonest, douchebag, untrustworthy, scumbag.
2) Dumptime - Its been proven he has no clue how to get value out of his sell offs. Unless blessed by the luck of god himself he can't build a title contender on his own and needs Soup to handle most matters.
3) MJ - Sorry but you are fucking awful How you ever won a title is beyond me. Why you returned to be missing in action is beyond me.
4) JW/Duc - If they would be a bit more involved in the league they wouldn't be on my list. But they aren't and so fuck them.
Side note. Having so many shit tier GMs in the East clearly helps the top GMs in that conference. So many minnows to chomp on. The west wishes they could have this many farm teams.
1. Duc- Not only are you inactive, when you are active you make bad moves. Sucks for you that you are in the wrong time zone compared to everyone else, but that still doesn’t excuse never being around.
2. JW- Where have you been man? You can’t be a good GM if you are never around. You have drafted some very good players in 4.0 and they have all been neglected. Put in a little effort
3. MJ- Same story as above. Show up every once in a while. Even without internet, you should still be able to check in on occasion. Plenty of people participate from their phone.
4. Dump- Failing/lucking into a good team every 10ish seasons is not good GM work. No GM gets bailed out of bad decisions like you Dump. You also have less negotiating skills than Canes.
5. Dirt-There was a time you were a very good GM and your constant tinkering would always find a way to pay off. Now you are barely around and it shows in your team. Now Ian is more active in shout than you. Come back to us Dirt.
9. Under the reign of Soup, players were built based on their profile. 20s has chosen to think of profiles as a scouting report that may not be accurate. Do you like the added variable into the draft, or did you like knowing that a profile guy would at least play similar to his profile and that his future was completely up to TC?

I don’t like it. Hard enough to hit in the draft as it is with the way the software randomly treats players. The added element that a guy could be built completely different than his profile is unnecessary. I don’t want to draft a big whose scouting report says he is going to play great defense and block shots and instead get a guy who is all offense and doesn’t play a lick of defense. Pretty obvious whose response this is.

I think players should be made however the commish wants to make them. Frankly, I don't even think we need a draft master. Commish should just go in, give the guys the grades he thinks they should have, and whatever his display grades are are what they are.
10. Dump loves to rub his TMBSL success in the faces of the GMs whose players he stole or whose team he beat at some point in the season/playoffs. Do you find it funny, annoying, obnoxious, etc?

I like dump. I'm one of the few that honestly can say that in the league. With that said he can be annoying as fuck. His recent run of cocksuckingness is a bit much. He showed zero skill in building this team. He tore down a recent title winner that Soup built for him only to get very little value for the large majority of his players. He then lucked into getting a once in a generation talent in Bird and the Sim Gods love to reward those who don't deserve it and gave him Jimmy Jackson. He should slow down his shit talking a bit but he won't. And since it just popped into my mind a huge fuck you to both Dump and Ank for running Soup off. Jerkoffs.

11. Dump has many personalities. Rank each one and give your thoughts on them. IMO they are Cocky dump, self hating dump, angry rage dump, triumphant dump, and antagonistic dump. Feel free to add dump personalities you think I forgot.
1. Normal dump. This is by far the best dump. Dump was dealt a pretty shitty hand by fate and he’s taken it in stride and is a great guy. I wish he would just be himself.
2. Triumphant dump. I like when dumptime is truly happy. It makes me feel his joy.
3. Antagonistic dump. Dump is a pretty good troll. I enjoy when he is under control and just trying to poke the bear.
4. Cocky dump. Lack of humility is a shitty trait in successful people. When people like dump lack humility it is especially frustrating.
5. Self-hating dump. I like dump and don’t like to see this.
6. Angry rage dump. This is the most out of control dump. It’s try-hard troll dump. It’s just embarrassing.

1. Triumphant Dump- Him after going 4-4 in the Poweshow layup challenge was glorious. I truly enjoyed watching you stick it to him and how you acted after that was great. You could tell for once dump was being himself and he wasn’t trying really hard to be liked.
2. Cocky Dump- I don’t know why, but I always get a kick out of dump when he is overconfident about something. He can be legitimately funny during these moments.
3. Self-hating dump- I genuinely like dump so I don’t like when things go wrong for him, but he can be really unintentionally funny when something trivial goes wrong for him. The meltdowns are always entertaining.
4. Rage Dump- Rage dump would be higher on the list if he didn’t have the potential to go completely off the rails and take personal shots at people. Less is more dump.
5. Antagonistic Dump- This is easily the worst dump. When this dump shows up, I wish the shout ban reward was cheaper. It’s obvious how hard he is trying to make people laugh and it isn’t funny at all. Antagonistic dump is a try-hard that needs to go away forever.

Urban Meyer is not that great of a coach. Like Soup, who rode to coattails of cheat-code players to the sim HoF, Meyer has an unearned reputation as one of the best coaches in college football.
