Another redraft article because I'm bored and broke. This class is special to me since it was my last as draft master.
1. Bullets (from Bobcats) - Yao Ming C 7'6' 310 22 B+ C C- B B A
Who should have gone 1.1 - Jason Williams PG 6'2'' 195 21 B- B- B- B- C- A
Man, this trade did not work out well for Kn. I get why he tried put together a dominant twin tower based team with Duncan and Ming, but with this software it was really risky. They’d probably be the best team in the east right now if they took Williams, or a top 4 seed if they stayed at 7 to take Ford 2.0 or Wagner.

Majic really made out like a bandit since he got the best player in the draft 1.7, and who he originally wanted at 1.2. And Odin was able to get who he wanted to take 1.1 at 1.2. I remember I wrote in Williams’ profile that he wasn’t a great free throw shooter and may struggle turning it over, but with those grades he shouldn’t have fallen any further than 3. He’s been good since day one and is now one of the best PGs in the league, he’s probably going to win the software’s MVP since he’s averaging 30 PPG and 13.1 APG. Props to Majic for taking a major risk and it paying off.
2. Bobcats (from Trailblazers via Bullets) - Caron Butler SF 6'7'' 228 22 B B- C B- B- B
Who should have gone 1.2 - Dajuan Wagner PG 6'2'' 200 20 B- B- C+ C+ D+ A
I’ll get to Butler later, he seemed like the right player to go 1.2 at the time. Wagner is still putting up great numbers after his incredible preseason. I’ve been a Wagner fan since his rookie year because of his defense, of all 29 GMs, I was the very first to have him on my rookie ladder. This season, his offense has finally caught up to his defense and he’s doing everything well, but rebounding. Those 2.6 RPG are laughably bad, his scoring is really impressive for somebody with a D- rebounding grade. He still has +18 left so there is plenty of room for him to grow.
3. Heat - Amar'e Stoudemire PF 6'10'' 245 20 B+ C D+ C+ B- A
Who should have gone 1.3 - Phil Ford 2.0 PG 6'2'' 175 21 C+ B B B- D+ B
Oh, what could have been for Bankz, if he would have just taken my advice and freed the original Phil Ford, he would have been able to enjoy some success and probably still be GMing the Nuggets. Ford 2.0 isn’t a star by any means because of the average defense and 3 TOPG, but he does score well as a second option on a loaded offensive team.
Dear GBG,
My man still has +16 left, please use these upgrades on his handles and defense ASAP.
Thanks,
Fason
4. Mavericks - Salado Valarado III PF 7'1'' 260 21 B+ C- C- B B B
Who should have gone 1.4 - Amar'e Stoudemire PF 6'10'' 245 20 B+ C D+ C+ B- A
I can remember after TC that season when Canes was throwing himself a pity party for passing on Sim Soup to take Stoudemire because he was worried Soup was another Jake Shuttlesworth. I’d say things worked out pretty well for Canes with that Amare pick, he was the third best player on the Heat’s title team. I like Stoudemire as the top big in this class because of his combo of efficient scoring and defense. He’s been pretty underrated throughout his career and is still only 24 years old. I wouldn’t be surprised if he becomes the best big in the league in a few seasons.
5. Bobcats (from Suns) - Tayshaun Prince SF 6'9'' 212 22 B- B- C B C+ B
Who should have gone 1.5 - Yao Ming C 7'6' 310 22 B+ C C- B B A
I’ll talk about Tayshaun later, Ming has been good but hasn’t lived up to being picked 1.1. I think we all expected him to be dominant because of his size, starting grades and A potential. He does score well, is solid on the boards and doesn’t turn it over. Height is important with the software for on ball defense so he’s probably a better defender than the 2.4 BPG suggests.
6. Thunder - Phil Ford 2.0 PG 6'2'' 175 21 C+ B B B- D+ B
Who should have gone 1.6 - Salado Valarado III PF 7'1'' 260 21 B+ C- C- B B B
Sim Soup’s career started out so promising then stalled because Dirt didn’t put many upgrades into him, he still has +19 left that could go into his defense. His current 2.6 BPG are well below the average for a starting big. He does everything else well so there is still hope that he could become one of the better bigs in the league if he were to be traded.
7. Trailblazers (from Bullets) - Jason Williams PG 6'2'' 195 21 B- B- B- B- C- A
Who should have gone 1.7 - Jiri Welsch SF 6'7'' 208 22 C+ B- C+ C+ C A
Welsch originally went 1.15 and I would have spelled his name correctly had I known he’d turn out this good. He doesn’t have any glaring holes in his game and does everything pretty well. He’d probably be putting up even better numbers if he were playing shooting guard instead of small forward and used as a scoring option. He’s on a great deal at 5.1 mil a season for the next three seasons, he’ll be a nice asset for the next Lakers GM. Come back at Buster 5000 .
8. Spurs - Fred Dilworth SG 6'5'' 205 21 B- B C+ B- C+ D
Who should have gone 1.8 - Ryan Humphrey PF 6'8'' 235 23 B- D C- B B C
As draft master at the time, I was glad that 20s changed sim Dil’s potential from A to D since Dil tried to make his simself a perfect prospect and another Jesse Epstein. I did feel bad for Bruns that he ended up a bust though. Humphrey’s the first second round pick to make the list and was a great find by Ian at 2.8. Because of his shot blocking and low turnovers, I wouldn’t fault anyone for valuing him more than the traditional scoring bigs that I have above him. His blocks may be inflated since he’s only 6’8, which makes little sense but it is HeavyReign.
*I’d like to see Eric or 20s run an experiment to see the difference in blocks between players with the exact same attributes and weight but the min and max heights. Just to see somebody 5’2 block more shots than somebody 7’8. Fucking HeavyReign.
9. Mavericks (from Magic) - Dajuan Wagner PG 6'2'' 200 20 B- B- C+ C+ D+ A
Who should have gone 1.9 - Reggie Evans C 6'8'' 245 22 C+ D+ D C+ B+ C
Evans was picked by Odin at 2.3 originally, then bounced around in a few trades and has now really come on this year to be a solid D/R big. I’m expecting his FG% to come back down to earth next season based on the poor FT%. He does still have +10 that can be used to improve his jumper.
10. Nets (from Clippers) - Mike Dunleavy SF 6'9'' 230 22 B- B- C+ B- C+ B
Who should have gone 1.10 - Nikoloz Tskitishvili PF 7'0'' 225 19 B- C+ C- C+ B- A
Dunleavy sucks and so does Tskitishvili now too apparently. I have him this high in hopes that it is just a down year. He would have been the clear 1.2 if I’d have done this before the season. I can’t ever remember seeing a player this young completely go to shit like this. He must have had an all-time bad TC when it comes to strength and shot blocking. I’m glad Heebs and 2Poor didn’t take my advice last season of working out a deal of Lebron for Niko, Coop and stuff.
11. Nets (from Bucks) - Nikoloz Tskitishvili PF 7'0'' 225 19 B- C+ C- C+ B- A
Who should have gone 1.11 - Nenad Krstic PF 7'0'' 240 19 B- C D C+ B- A
Kristic was good pick at 1.21 by JHB. He blocks a good amount of shots, but doesn’t rebound as well as you’d like a starting big to. He’s still only 23 and with how rebounding grows for bigs, he could easily get to 11.5 or 12 RPG in a couple seasons.
12. Thunder (from Cavaliers) - Julius Peppers PF 6'7'' 270 22 B- D+ D B- B+ B
Who should have gone 1.11 - Caron Butler SF 6'7'' 228 22 B B- C B- B- B
Peppers now bounces around from team to team in post TC signings, I do think he could have been a good defensive SF if GBG could have put points into his shot blocking, rebounding and jumper early on. As for Caron, looks like we all jumped the gun in proclaiming him a future superstar, he did only average 19.8 PPG in 34 MPG. Then his value was propped up even more after his second year by those numbers he put up in only 8 games. He was solid in year three, then awful in year four. He still could become a good third wing or even a solid starting shooting guard for a team with bigs that can both score.
13. Thunder (from Bulls) - Carlos Boozer PF 6'9'' 258 21 B C D C+ B B
Who should have gone 1.13 - Tayshaun Prince SF 6'9'' 212 22 B- B- C B C+ B
To nobody’s surprise Boozer has sucked and is worthless because he doesn’t block any shots. I’m a fan of Tayshaun’s defense and think he could become a solid all-around wing if Delap puts Prince’s remaining points into his jumper. He’s never going to be a star but could become a poor man’s MKG.
