Possible roles/teams:
Dumbledore's Army/Order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter - Invisibility Cloak (has the ability to twice put on his cloak of invisibility at night and become immune to all night moves)
Ron Weasley - Expelliarmus (can disarm his target and block their night move)
Hermione Grainger - Specialis Revelio (uncovers the identity of one player in the game each night)
Severus Snape - Veritaserum (when given to a target l, this uncovers the alignment of the player)
Albus Dumbledore - Headmaster (can come forward as verified civ after Day 2, vote counts as 3 votes during the day)
Death Eaters
Voldemort - Godfather
Bellatrix Lestrange - Cruciatus curse (tortures her target to learn their true identity)
Barty Crouch Jr. - Polyjuice potion (has two servings that when used allows him to assume the identity of any other player in the game for a night)
Fenrir Greyback - Werewolf (can choose once to attack one player...that player transforms into a werewolf the next night and joins Death Eaters with no special abilities)
Yaxley- Imperius (can change the target of one other players night move without their knowledge)
Dementor - can use their general terribleness to incapacitate a player for the night and block their night move

Also had Peter pettigrew- starts the game as a member of the order of the Phoenix. At 1 point in the game can be approached by the death eaters to join them. Remus lupin- aligned with the order but on random predetermined nights turns into a werewolf and kills anyone who visits him. Sirius black-bodyguard Madam pomfrey-doctor Madeye moody-veteran Broken wand Ron Weasley-vigilante Gilderoy Lockhart-jester Harry Potter-similar to what you had but add can't die unless there is a vote from voldemort Draco Malfoy-barman Fleur delacour-escort Neville longbottom-starts the game as a vanilla civ. On day 4 he gets a special power that I need to figure out. |

How would you set up the office? The Office Michael Scott-executioner, his only goal is to kill his randomly assigned toby. Dwight Schrute-Volunteer sheriffs deputy Jim Halpert- Kelly Kapoor-starts a conversation with someone at night. Doesn't stop talking until the night is over. That person is unable to do his night moves. Ryan Howard- starts with the office. At some point can be approached by the NY office to join them. Oscar Martinez- Pam Beasley Creed Bratton- vigilante Kevin Malone Daryl Philbin Stanley Hudson New York Jan Levinson- sleeps with a member of the office each night to prevent them from doing anything else. kryptonite to Michael scott. Will learn his identity if she sleeps with him at night. Charles Miner- Framer David Wallace- Godfather this is what I got so far. |

Michael Scott-executioner, his only goal is to kill his randomly assigned toby. gold can announce engagement to a target twice during the game. while engaged, the target can't use any power (if applicable). second engagement breaks the first engagement wingman. can pick one person at night, that person becomes unkillable and unblockable |

Here's my idea for LOTR theme. Please chime in on additional roles... if something seems too powerful. Some of it may be confusing, I was just basically typing whatever popped into my old head.
The Fellowship:
Gandalf the Grey: If killed (by either faction) he will return as Gandalf the White in a set amount of time (example: lynched on Day 1, will return for Day 2. Killed on Night 1, will return for Day 3)
Aragorn: A ranger from the North. He can investigate any one individual at night. OG Cop role. Can detect Sauron.
Boromir: The bodyguard, will give of himself to protect the Fellowship and the Hobbitses. May protect one person each night.
Legolas: Bowman. Has 2 arrows that can be fired at night (can use both on the same night, if he wishes)
Frodo Baggins: Holding the One Ring, he can disappear at night once to protect himself from any attacks. However, if he tries to use the ring again, Sauron (if still alive) will be able to detect him and his identity will be revealed to the forces of darkness. If Sauron falls, it means the ring was destroyed, so Frodo loses this power at that time.
Gimli: Vanilla Fellowship
Merry: Vanilla Fellowship
Pippin: Vanilla Fellowship
Sam: Vanilla Fellowship
Forces of Darkness:
Sauron: The ruler of Mordor. Can be discovered by Aragorn. Can discover Frodo if Frodo uses the One Ring for a 2nd time.
Saruman: The White Wizard. Using the Palantir, he can investigate a member of the Fellowship each night. As the Palantir corrupts and does not give the entire truth, he will be told the race of the member of the Fellowship, but not the exact name. (For this category, Aragorn will appear as both man and elf, so a discovery of “man” could be Aragorn or Boromir, a discovery of “elf” could be Aragorn or Legolas. Gandalf, the Balrog, and Tom Bombadil will be outed as “eternal beings”. Gollum will be outed as a “hobbit”. Gimli will be outed by name, as no one else shares his race in the Fellowship)
Witch-King of Angmar: The hitman for the Forces of Darkness until he is eliminated. The first Vanilla Fellowship member killed by the Witch-King can choose to return as a Ring Wraith on the side of Darkness. If this occurs, the Fellowship will not be notified of which user died, simply that that specific character (Merry, for example) has fallen to the Darkness. The Ring Wraith becomes allied with the Darkness, but can be lynched during the day like anyone (or killed by Legolas at night). However, the Ring Wraith will die if Saruman is eliminated.
Other Roles:
Gollum: He just wants his precious back. His goal is to kill Frodo. He will be told who Frodo is. He wins the game if Frodo is lynched (regardless of the ultimate outcome of the game.) He loses if Frodo is killed at night when he is not involved. If Frodo is lynched, his goal is to simply survive until the end, for he cares not about sides, he has his precious. He now has the One Ring and can disappear at night (one time). Like Frodo, if he uses it a 2nd time, he will be discovered by Sauron. If Frodo is killed at night, Gollum loses his mind and hurls himself into Mount Doom at dawn, dragging someone with him (his choice.) He doesn’t care who it is, as he has already lost the game.
Tom Bombadil: A merry, gentle man of the woods… who can become fiercely protective of those in his care. His goal for the game is to protect the Hobbits. Each night he can protect a hobbit (he won’t know which user he is protecting, just the character) from attack. He wins the game with the Fellowship. Only dies when targeted, not when protecting the hobbit.
The Balrog: A creature of darkness and flame, the Balrog simply exists to serve evil. While not included in discussions for the Forces of Darkness, the Balrog wins when they do. The Balrog has 2 kills to use during any night (including on the same night, like Legolas). The Balrog can be lynched or killed at night.

Other roles I may want to include:
Shelob (Neutral): A silencer. Those caught in the web are silent the next day. Cannot be blocked by the bodyguard or Bombadil. If Shelob happens upon someone protected by Boromir or Bombadil, they will be silenced as well.
Elrond (Fellowship): Investigator, similar to the powers of Saruman. All 3 evil roles will appear as "eternal beings", while the Witch-King will also appear as a man.
Wormtail (Evil): The deceiver, can obfuscate the truth and cause a target to appear as something they are not (can confuse Aragorn and Elrond. Aragorn will be told a different role (RNG), Elrond will be told a different race (RNG)

BUT I CAN CARRY YOU!!!" "RUDY! RUDY! RUDY!" i get what you're going for with saruman viewing aragorn as elf but what about doing gandalf as an elf instead. at least his name means wand-elf, and that way you have 2 men, 2 elves, 2 eternal beings. for the witch-king, instead of his targets coming back what about him using a morgul blade. you could treat it as poison, silence, there's a lot of ways you could go with it. boromir fits a lot better in-universe as someone being secretly converted to evil, which i do think is an interesting mechanic. eomer could be an interesting neutral, but if he's in i'd want theoden and eowyn too and that might get too complicated. i'd go with something like: eomer - neutral. kills anyone who visits at night. he wins if saruman or theoden die. theoden - starts game as vanilla town. if gandalf becomes gandalf the white or saruman dies, announced as theoden king and vote counts double eowyn - if theoden king is killed by any mafia (by vote, hit, whatever), eowyn kills the witch king. if he's still just theoden, it doesn't happen. otherwise vanilla town. |

Some suggestions:
Aragorn - smarter version of a citizen/veteran, he has two chances to go on alert at night and is immune to the forces of evil (can be neutral evil or Sauron-aligned)
Merry and Pippin - best friends (know the identity of each other, if one dies the other goes down avenging his death and can choose to take another player with them to the grave)
Sam - BG
Gimli - at any time he can choose to take the entire group to the Mines of Moria to visit his cousin Balin and one player will die at random
