Agree w/ Fecta. Out of the handful of random roles, there's usually gonna be only two or three that wouldn't be verifiable by the night activity. If the town knows that there are 4-6 randoms and 2 are already dead, there's probably only going to be a pool of two or three people that would be potential mafia. Night moves, etc could narrow that down pretty easily.

i think canes made a good point on The Lost Pod which is that if there are more roles than players the mafia can claim to have X role without it being guaranteed that a town can say "well no, I'M X role." it's also not necessarily the case that the town will believe the first person to claim a role even if there is a conflict. and with framers, roleblockers, and silencers, this makes it even easier for the mafia to act in these situations. i think people are getting too hung up on role reveals. there are a lot of permutations in-game we can still go through there. i personally prefer games where there are no roles at all, but everyone having a role can work, especially when there's a surplus. The issue is there are certain actions those roles can have, so if I say Im X role then at somepoint I would have to utilize that power. Especially when a lot of roles have powers where the admin needs to be involved. Such as role x can "reveal the true identify of a player", a mafia member couldnt claim that role with any credibility. looking at the last game i count only two roles that had that though, the revealer and the mayor. imo for everyone else there was room for a ton of chaos with a potential silencer, three role blockers, target changer, and bus driver in the game

oh yeah, so I was role blocked but not kill blocked. I think that caused some confusion last game w/ the star wars theme as well. The logic was applied consistently, whether it makes sense to you or not. The OP said nothing about that. I carefully read the OP to make sure. It said I would disarm my target AND block their night move. I spent the entire game trying to role block who I thought Voldemort was because I thought that meant I couldn't die that night. Come to find out that the strategy I had been using all game wouldn't work because of what was in canes' mind but not the OP.

Try telling the guy running the game that he fucked up on one of the night moves to be told that he didn't mess up only to realize his mistake several hours later. Then his excuse is he overlooked it.

In:
1. JHB 2. Bankz 3. 20s 4. Odin 5. Soup 6. TimPig 7. GBG 8. BK 9. Pete 10. skrouse 11. Druce 12. Fecta
Looks like LOTR is gonna happen. Any additional people will fill up the random roles. Good work. Sign-ups will end at 2pm tomorrow. I'll have roles out by 5pm and the first day will end midday Thursday. Please review the roles so far... I'm not trying to be tricky or too complicated... just fun with roles that are a little bit different.
Any pre-game feedback, aside from Eric requesting Sam to be the bodyguard, is welcome

It's hard to know if there is clarification needed until you have a role and are in a game. And then there are cases where you don't even think you need clarification because you carefully read the OP multiple times and as the OP reads, the roles are clear. But then you die anyway in a method that directly contradicts what the OP said. So I didn't even think to ask for clarification. Honestly that LOTR post just looks like it's asking for confusion. Out unless it's a standard game. There was a ton of confusion the first time we had a standard game with many roles too, though, and that was only game 12. Delap's rules look pretty legit to me (even though Sam should clearly be the BG). If boromir dying defending frodo and the ring isn't a BG I don't know what in LOTR is

My only suggestion is no jester role. I also hate that role. There will never be a jester in my games.

My suggestion for anyone running a themed game is to do the following...
Hand out Roles 6-12 hours before the game actually starts. That allows any and all questions about roles to be asked prior to the game starting.
If anything is asked and answers maybe you post all those in the OP as frequently asked Questions.
Giving a window for all players to ask about all roles before the game starts seems like a simple and easy fix to the more complicated games we are starting to dive into.

I will likely incorporate. I'd like to get to at least 14 participants, though, for more enjoyment.

20s NavidadCan I get the necessary permissions to make a new thread on the Mafia board? I'd like to post the rules and roles today so people have time to peruse and ask questions before roles are dispersed. Then I'll try to have a waiting period after role assignment before the start of the game so people can ask questions.

Yeah but people could have questions about how roles potentially interact on the game and that role not even be in the game

Yeah but people could have questions about how roles potentially interact on the game and that role not even be in the game Yeah we will need someone to at least publically exclaim they will send in fake questions to cover the Sherlock's of the world from reading in to a dynamically modified OP.
