I will run a sim season with Sexton on the Sonics. I also had the Hornets 1st in the East. It just kind of popped into my head as we were talking. I think it’d be fascinating. We should place some bets. Sexton on the Sonics: Nothing else changed on any roster from the beginning of the season rosters. StandingsSonics Team Page

Sexton Player ProfileThats crazy. But I think that also shows a serious flaw in the Win Shares calculation, because Sexton is not a 7 win player. Ive always thought Win Shares were highly inflated for people that are on good teams.

Other players on the team can be negative win share players. eric could you calculate Sexton's win shares for this season I posted?

yep you guys blew it wide open. the case of a player whose win shares haven't even been measured clearly demonstrates what a bad metric win shares is. glad to see the less frequent mafia games haven't dulled your crack gumshoe instincts Thats crazy. since we're relitigating blocks i thought i'd repost some stuff from the first time the league talked about it: On Souper Troopers's request, I took a league of 5 attribute players, changed one center's build and tested out their team success. Player A - 100 shot blocking, 50 post / drive defense, 25 stealing / perimeter defense: 34 defense (C-) Player B - 75 shot blocking, 60 post / drive defense, 35 stealing / perimeter defense: 41 defense (C) Player C - 25 shot blocking, 78 post / drive defense, 55 stealing / perimeter defense: 41 defense (C) Note that players B and C do not reach any soft caps on defense, so the formula is taking their full attributes into account. player tW tWS tOWS tDWS A 46.8 48.6 21.6 26.9 B 44.5 45.2 19.5 25.7 C 43.1 44.4 21.0 23.4 Team Wins, team Win Shares, Offensive, Defensive. The variations in offensive Win Shares are probably random noise. Note that if we graph tDWS vs. Shot Blocking we get astonishingly good correlation: Takeaways: 1. Shot Blocking 2. Grade can be very misleading 3. Seriously, Shot Blocking

I understand though if you don't feel qualified to participate in that discussion and want to leave it to the experts.

Grade can be very misleading 3. Seriously, Shot Blocking Uh I never said this wasn't true. But you're taking it a step further than your evidence shows, which is my issue. The shot blocking rating is strongly correlated to team success, sure. But shot blocking rating and blocked shots aren't the same thing. Which is my entire point. For example, JJJ has a high shot blocking rating but gets piss poor blocks per 36. Yet he is a good defensive player. His high blocking rating makes him good, but you wouldn't know his blocking rating was high by looking at the box score...

Have you done research where you find the correlation between block rating and blocked shots? I bet there's a lot of noise on it. Especially around the 2-2.8 bp36 range

Especially around the 2-2.8 bp36 range read the For the New Guys article remember when we used to say this to you every day and you still haven't done it and you're still making casual errors that would have been rectified by ten minutes of reading the day you joined the league
