Idea: Haircut post defense and replace it with perimeter defense.
Effect: Reduces defensive efficacy against big men and increases defensive efficacy against perimeter players.
Why should we do it? Make Bigs Great Again! Seriously. I had eric do some preliminary testing and it resulted in big man FG% going up 2.7% and pts/tsa going up .048, while reducing wing FG% by .8% and pts/tsa by .027.
This change would go into effect next season and would be retroactive to all players currently in the league and players in this year's draft class.

If it's been tested and those were the results, I like it.
Hope you're ready to put some work in, Heebs.

this is a bad idea for many reasons
invisible changes are bad
the changes described were for switching a league of 80 post def 20 perim def to 20 post def 80 perim def this is an enormous change that alters the value of many players currently under contract and it doesn't come close to achieving the stated goal: wings are currently +.1 over bigs
and it doesn't address that post defense is a fast grower for bigs, putting us right back in this situation after a couple TCs
.
yearly shot blocking caps are the way to go: visible, straightforward, boosts bigs without nerfing wings

I could have just done it without telling anyone, made sure it didn't impact defensive grades, and that would be invisible. If wings are +.1, this results in a net difference in favor of bigs of .075. So we've eliminated three fourths of the disparity. Not many bigs I've seen are capped on post D, so TCs will wash out in the data because they'll be going from 20 to 30 instead of from 70 to 80. I agree it impacts the value of players under contract. But so would nerfing shot blocking.

or you could just not be a bitch like soup and 20s and make about 10 90+ inside and 80+ jumper bigs in each class like i did

this was my logic for determining bigs inside grade: "if this dude stood directly under the goal without being guarded how many times would he score if he shot 100 times"

Can’t reasonably be done on this software.
The solution to fixing big men would be to go to the new software.

They almost have to have it. If you get the time glance over them and see if you can find any correlation between higher fg% and grades like jumper/jumping/strength/quickness

But so would nerfing shot blocking. it's invisible because we don't know who will be affected and how much, whereas since shot blocking is so well correlated with shot blocks we would have a clear picture. your announcing that you're moving all perimeter players to 20 perimeter defense doesn't help me if i don't know if my player had 80 or 20 before you did so. nerfing shot blocking primarily impacts big men, most of whom are not under long term contract. nerfing perimeter players when there are dozens of perimeter players on long term maxes is a radical change, and not in the king radical on a motorbike way.

Thanks for the clarification on why you say it is invisible. That helps.
The idea would be to move post defense to perimeter defense for all players. So inside scoring becomes more efficient and perimeter scoring becomes more inefficient. I could do it by decreasing post D by 50 percent (so a big with 30 goes to 15, and a big with 90 goes to 45) and move those 15 or 45 pts to perimeter D for the big. Because most wings have low post defense, this wouldn't impact them a lot.

I do enjoy the fact that everyone has wanted something like this for a long time. Now we have it, with some research showing it could have a positive impact and some people dont want to do it lol
