Being that I was the one who originated the idea for this draft class, I feel as though it's only right for me to lead the charge against it. The intention was never to initiate a class into the league that skew competitive balance and produces multiple all time great players in their rookie seasons. Many people have complained about this and I believe their complaints are justified and multiple players need to be nerfed. Discuss.

The intention wasn't even for the class to be OP, there is a lot of wiggle room within grades to have them be reasonable above average players and have some bust like Fason.

yes I strongly agree that nerfing of some sort to the mentioned players needs to happen
I understand we could have seen this coming or discussed more beforehand but let just get it corrected

I say we kill them in the offseason and then double down on penalizing the asshole GM's that had them by taking their next draft picks as well. That will show everyone who wants to acquire OP players.

because I dont want this lost in shout history. and because I 100% agree with Taco.
Here is what he said:
MistleTacoe:
"Just want to reiterate that a rookie PG scoring 41ppg is really fucking stupid.
Having multiple new players that massively deviate from the normal version of "good" is stupid.
Its weird that we had a meltdown as a league about Eric's create-a-player but now we have Pete, Herb, and Eric and theres not really much backlash. I mean I know its the waning years of 4.0 but its fucking stupid. Let's not make this normal
Just for reference, the last three SF that are in our HoF (Saric, Lockhart, and Ackles), wouln't sniff Handsome Pete.....and he's a fucking rookie"

I also say we kill Fason this offseason
Edit for clarification: Not the player

you idiots fell right into the trap. I don't have much doubt that Fason did this on purpose, and have had waning interest in the league anyways. Mostly came back for mafia, but that has fizzled out too. If this is the end, it's the end.

I would think trying to create a more fair and balanced league would be a good thing Because two-time champions like yourself have such an intimate knowledge of Sim league yet didn’t complain about this class until now. It was obvious from the day one that this class was OP and everyone seemed to think that was fun or interesting or just didn’t care. Now that they don’t have a shiny toy they want to bitch and complain incessantly. I feel bad for the 70 percent of GMs that don’t make being commish harder than it needs to be.

I think there is a difference between having the class be fun and interesting, and making players that essentially break the league. I think there would be much less bitching if there weren't multiple players who are top 10 overall players in the league right off the rip.

I dont claim to have any sort of master understanding of the software and how grades/players are made. I would also guess that outside of eric and a 1-2 other GMs that have built classes, no one would fully know either. I was under the assumption that the grade rules created initially would allow for somewhat balanced players. We even had some GMs believing this class wouldn't turn into much and was too much of a mystery. I also fully expected there to be alot of good-great players from this class, but nothing to the degree we currently have. It could have been as simple as someone posting a thread saying "hey, if we keep this grading system we likely get some super-powered players" and giving the league a heads up that it was possible. Sexton is the best player we have and it took him 7 years to sniff 40+ ppg

just to put an actual idea out here for this if this ends up blowing over:
we shouldn't target specific players. i agree with heebs that it would be unfair. I suggest doing something like lowering every player in the draft class's inside and outscoring by 15%
that would be fair to every gm but also make the class more in line with other classes we've seen

Mostly came back for mafia, but that has fizzled out too. If this is the end, it's the end. There is no way for me to predict which players will be cheat code tier from just putting numbers in to match letter grades. I don’t have the file or even the software, just going off Eric’s spreadsheet. And I did bring it up with Heebs, we agreed that I’d use the bottom end of the grade threshold which I did, this is just the type of thing that can happen with PGs that have those scoring grades and low passing. The two people with the most knowledge on the software (Heebs and Eric) have said this multiple times. Handsome Pete isn’t a cheat code player, he’s just an elite big that can play SF ala Myles Turner and Shareef. This is what I told Majic yesterday. Honestly, Herb and Eric just ended up being much better scorers than I intended because of their low passing. I wasn't trying to kill the league with those two. I've already built the wrestler class, 2018 high school class and have the South Park class 90% done. And I can guarantee you there were no players close to Herb/Eric.

Sexton is the best player we have and it took him 7 years to sniff 40+ ppg A lot of people are talking about scoring volume so I wanted to address that real quick. Scoring volume is not a good judge of how good a player is. It is heavily dependent on other attributes and roster construction. The main factor in this case is Herb's very low Passing attribute, as evidenced by his 3.6 ast / 36. A player cannot assist on and shoot the same shot, so as his Passing attribute increases his scoring volume will come down. His turnovers will also come up, though Handling attribute is also a fast grower for PGs on average so it won't be proportional. Hofmann is currently a (slightly) below average efficiency scorer. His ticket to big scoring volume is that aside from Tracy McGrady there's no other legit scorer on the SuperSonics, and Thomas Jefferson's career path is instructive in this regard. As a rookie on a barren team he scored 33 per game. This year with teammates who actually want to shoot he's down to 20 per game. Hofmann wants the ball more than Jefferson so there's no team construction that would push him down to 20, but on a contending team he would struggle to hit 30. He also benefits from a smaller degree low Passing effect as Herb, and his Handling is outright poor. Pete is a mensch. But like George Ackles before him he doesn't take enough threes to be a truly elite scorer. Three Point Shooting is a fast grower for small forwards, but with C shown potential he might be a finished product.

I apologize for making Handsome Pete SF-eligible. I started out on his profile intending to make him a SF-eligible D/R big, then got caught up writing the profile and decided to change the type of player he was but forgot to edit the position to take away SF eligibility. I wrote his profile intending him to be a big 100%

No one is claiming to have intimate knowledge about the mechanics or software or think they could do a better job. I'm (and I don't think Majic or Druce) certainly not complaining these players AREN'T on my team. I am saying its fucking stupid for 3 rookies to be top 15 players in the league right off the batt. Regarding solutions, I think a nerf would solve some issues. I could be fine with keeping the players as they are if there's a good argument. Either way, the point I wanted to make was that I don't want this to be commonplace. That's it. I don't want to be a GM in a league where their are super classes of multiple instantly "better-than-HoF" type of players as rookies. That takes away from the skill and fun of being a good GM. Also, Heebs, have some thicker skin dude. No one is personally attacking you. You took on the role as the commissioner and everyone is entirely grateful for that. It's a thankless role as are many leadership positions. There's 20+ GMs and rarely will everyone agree. We trust you as Commish to survey the landscape and make the best decision for the league. There's no need to huff, puff, and take your ball home as soon as a couple GMs complain about something. Ultimately, its your decision but its not a good look.
