A Look At The Drafts Over Time
Thought this would be a cool idea, nostalgia for the 2.0ers, and a little bit of a history lesson for the new guys. I wasn't around for the first 8 or so years keep that in mind but I did my best. There are probably going to be some mistakes this is almost entirely off memory, I'd appreciate simple corrections and I'll fix the article.
#1 Picks
I wanted to take a look first at how the number picks changed or didn't change.
1990) Spurs - David Robinson C 7'1'' 235 25 A C- C A+ A- A
1991) Bullets - Larry Johnson PF 6'6'' 250 22 B C+ C C B A
1992) Bullets - Alonzo Mourning C 6'10'' 240 22 B C D+ B+ B A
1993) Spurs - Shaquille O'Neal C 7'1'' 325 21 B+ D D+ B+ B+ A
1994) Pistons - Grant Hill SF 6'8'' 225 21 B- C+ B- B C+ A
1995) Heat (from Bucks) - Joe Smith PF 6'10'' 225 19 B C C- B- B- A
1996) Bucks (from Celtics) - Allen Iverson PG 6'0'' 167 20 B B- C+ B D+ A
1997) Grizzlies - Tim Duncan C 6'11'' 249 21 B D+ D+ A- B+ A
1998) Rockets - Dirk Nowitzki PF 7'0'' 235 20 B- B C C C+ A
1999) Bulls - Vince Carter SG 6'5'' 220 22 B+ C+ C+ C+ C A
2000) Hornets (from Kings) - Kenyon Martin PF 6'9'' 230 22 B- D+ C- B B- A
2001) Nets (from Kings) - Sim Poe SF 6'6'' 205 18 B C+ C B C+ A
2002) Hawks - Dwyane Wade SG 6'4'' 210 20 B C C+ B- C+ A
2003) Pistons - Darko Milicic PF 7'0'' 245 18 B- C+ C+ B- C+ A
2004) Trailblazers - Chris Bosh PF 6'10'' 215 20 B- B- D+ B- B- A
The first thing that jumps out is the 2004 draft. Duc took Bosh over Lebron James never take anyone over Lebron James. At the time to be fair to duc it wasn't a crazy pick Lebron did have very mediocre starting grades. After Kenyon years 2001-2004 a legend was taken with 1.1. Some other legends include Dirk, Vince, Shaq, David Robinson, and Joe Smith. AI suffered from being a 6'0 SG awful TO's. That 2000 draft woof, as bad as the real life draft.

I'm going to struggle with the early drafts. Thanks to Ved for the info. This was a largely underwhelming draft. Mutombo never developed into a scoring threat not what you want with 1.4. Steve Smith ended up being very average, although he did turn into a steal MLE for former Jazz GM Ohhaitur. Kenny Anderson started out hot and died.
1992

Solid top end Zo was a no brainer at 1.1 those are better than Demarcus Cousins/Hakeem grades. Jimmy Jackson was a mainstay for the Mavs, seems like them and the Hawks never made a bad pick.
1993
1. Spurs - Shaquille O'Neal C 7'1'' 325 21 B+ D D+ B+ B+ A

13. Heat - Rodney Rogers SF 6'7'' 235 22 B C C- C+ C+ B
Shaq was very good, borderline HoFer but didn't live up to many peoples expectations of GOAT big man. GM clutch made a very good trade to get rid of Shaw the moment he took over the Spurs. Etienne Preira is a TMBSL legend put up consistent 25-30 PPG on awful Suns teams abused by GM Mops.

13. Warriors (from Heat) - Charlie Ward PG 6'2'' 190 23 C C+ B C+ C B
Got former GM of the C's patface to give his thoughts on this draft.
Patface: Big Country was my top guy all along because of the importance of big men and the team I was trying to build. It was my first draft after blowing up the previous Celtics regime and I wanted to ensure that I got a cornerstone. Kidd was actually my second choice after seeing how important top PG's had been (see Michael Adams, Jazz). In all, I was pretty pleased with how he developed, though I felt like he never made that final leap after I'd lubed him up with a bunch of TC and article points. Key contributor on what I thought was a pretty great team.
This is also the only 4.0 and 2.0 draft. Charlie Ward in 2.0 died, I believe he was bought out then never put in the FA pool therefore deleting his file. Gone forever. Always loved Big Country.

This is known as the great draft. This gave birth to the two greatest players in TMBSL 2.0 history pre Nick Diaz. KG and Ray Allen would turn into absolute monsters, the edge going to KG. He was the first and possibly only player to lead the league in scoring, rebounding, and blocks. Joe Smith the surprising pick at 1.1 turned into the cornerstone of multiple championship runs for great GM 2.0 GM Jayrish. Stoudamire was very good, Stackhouse teamed up with Kittles on the Twolves to form an outstanding core.

Kobe developed slowly and people were very hesitant to give him the max after his rookie year. He would blow up immediately after signing a max with Clown IIRC and would win multiple championships with the Warriors including ripping the hearts out of the C's in game 7. Antoine Walker was another great pick by Ward. Man look at all these trades in the lotto, that's unheard of now.

Chauncey would become the PG to some of the great Bulls teams headlined by Nick Diaz. Great defender. This draft was largely underwhelming. Tim Duncan never lived up to the 1.1 status.

Paul Pierce and Dirk are 2.0 greats. Dirk would turn into a stellar SF and Paul Pierce was a Dr.J/Iceman/Michael Adams caliber SF. Raef LaFrentz was decent. Bibby was the PG for future fantastic 76er teams.

Jonathan Bender, pretty sure 4 different GM's traded for him hoping he'd develop into a Larry Kennon. Dude was always a +1 away from being good and kept his A potential. Vince Carter was a stud. Birdman would become a very good big man for the great T-wolves teams. Tmac going 5 is crazy, can't believe he fell that far was a mainstay with the Wolves. Marion always had inflated grades, a 100 jump guy who consistently underachieved.

Irush was at a concert for what I believe is the only forfeited lotto pick, what a scene that was. Was for the best though, this draft sucked. I believe Michael Redd went 22 IIRC him and Mihm were the only players worth a shit. Don't get Buster started on how great his first pick as the GM of the Wolves was with taking Chris Mihm.

This was my first draft. Never realized Shane Battier a guy who put up 25/8 with great defense went right after constant under achiever Eddy Curry. Kwame turned into a bigger bust than Curry. Stromile was another big bust, always thought he went higher. The greatest player in TMBSL history Sim Poe/Nick Diaz went 1.1. He could do everything with A+ defense. I'm sure Ian will post the screenshot of his ludicrous grades. Yao Ming was the last piece to the Knicks dynasty of Scoonie Penn/Paul Pierce/Yao Ming. Ming was a consistent 25/13/3 guy. Maggette always had great grades but just never shot enough.

Great top end to this draft. Wade was a god turned into one of the better PG's in TMBSL. Was also apart of one of the more high profile trades in TMBSL history if I remember correctly it was Lebron on the Magic for Wade on the Hawks. Amare was dump's best pick ever, would wither away on those Raptor teams.

Great draft considering Bosh and Lebron didn't declare. Best player from this draft was Eddie Griffin one of Bankz's better picks. Ben Gordon turned into a scoring machine most people with those starting grades will. A great rule of thumb that someone once told me is that it's next to impossible to bust a SG that starts with B outside. Darko was skilled, eventually being the centerpiece in a deal involving 2.0 legend Chris Paul.

13. Spurs (from Nets) - Kirk Snyder SG 6'6'' 225 21 B- C C B- C A
Ike Diogu was a stretch to take at 6 by Ved but turned into a steal. Pavel was dbl's last pick in TMBSL ever, a forefather to Champ Godbolt. Andris Biedrins would turn into the perfect big man for some great 76ers teams with Beasley/Beal/Davis. Devin Harris had a big first year for the C's putting up about 20/10 but would never match that again.
