Okay, so bringing back an idea that @jayrish used to do when I was in 2.0. For anyone who is unfamilar, myself and Lazy Pete, 2poor and Face-in drafted an 8 team fantasy league with TMBSL players.
We each had two 7 player teams to draft. The position make up was as follows: C, PF, SF, SG, PG, UTL, UTL
The randomized draft order was:
Pete 2
2poor 1
Pete 1
20x4 2
Fason 1
Fason 2
2poor 2
20x4 1
and then reversed for even numbered rounds.
The nine stat categories are: FG%, FT%, 3PM, PTS, REB, AST, STL, BLK, TO. I will update the standings for the league as I see fit. (At least at the end of the season but I will probably do it more often).

1. Please provide brief reasoning for each of your selections:
2poor 1:
I took Thompson number 2 overall because he's the best combo of assists/points/percentages/steals in the league. Having the best PG in the league on your squad isn't a bad place to start. I wonder if I should have taken Walton though, just because center isn't nearly as deep a position as point guard. I'm very excited about the Perkins pick. He contributes in basically every category. Robertson was the best player available, plain and simple. He and Thompson together should propel me towards the top of the league in points and assists. Everyone else was just filling needs. Grant as my last utility player was because rebounding and blocked shots are the weak point of this squad.
2poor 2:
Godbolt may have been a little bit of a reach, but I really wanted him on one of my fantasy teams. He is such a unique player. 3s, absurd numbers of blocked shots, points, boards, he is a contributor across the board. Adams and Jones were the best players available at the time. They are also players who shouldn't hurt me in any one category. Walter Davis is the only other interesting pick on this squad. I think for that late in the draft, someone who is going to lift all your percentages, while maybe not being overwhelming in any other categories, is a pretty solid pick.
Pete 1:
Magic Johnson - No brainer first overall pick. He does everything well, averaged a triple double last season, 25-30 ppg, 2 bpg, 2 spg, and great percentages.
Cliff T. Robinson - Wanted to get an elite big and Cliff does all the things a big should do. He scores 20+, blocks a ton of shots, rebounds great, and shoots good percentages. Hopefully the trade rumors don’t affect his performance this year
Moncrief - Wanted a good SG and Moncrief is elite as a scorer, stealer, and his shooting %s. Probably a little bit of a reach when you look at some of the others still available
Dr. J - Really loved the value of getting Dr. J in the 4th round, he’s still an elite player, and incredibly consistent since creation. I know he’ll bring me around 28-9-4 with strong %s
Catfish - Needed another big, and a lot of the scorers were off the table, so I went with a big who will provide a ton of blocks and rebounds plus good percentages. As I’m writing this, I realize that I went after percentages really strongly.
Al Jefferson - Didn’t love this pick looking at his preseason numbers, but now that he’s been moved I really like it. He’ll probably be [HASH]1 or 2 option on whatever team eventually lands him, and will hopefully put up some strong [HASH]s like he did last season.
Adrian Dantley - Wanted another guard, he adds a decent amount of assists, steals, points.Don’t love this pick.
Pete 2:
Bill Walton - Thought about going with Westphal here but the depth at PG pushed me towards the best fantasy big man in the game (I say that knowing very little about fantasy basketball). Walton scores, rebounds, blocks shots and shoots at elite levels, and contributes around 5 assists to go with it. The Blazers have fallen off, but Walton has not.
Truck Robinson - Was surprised to the leading scorer still available late in the second. He adds good rebounding and 3pt% as well. Didn’t show up much in the preseason league leaders section, which may have scared others off.
John Williamson - Williamson is a beast, and I’m even more excited now that he’ll have Boogie and Alvan to play alongside him. Should give me great scoring, assists, steals and shooting. Was averaging 36 ppg for the celtics last season before he was injured.
Reggie King - Looking for a two guard and saw that King was still available, was thrilled to get him here. Does just about everything well from that spot.
Swen Nater - Hoping I don’t catch him on one of his infamous “bad years”, Swen has shown he can rebound and score with the best of them
George McGinnis - Figured he would probably put up some strong numbers on Bruns’ Bulls, since there aren’t many other scorers to cut into his opportunities. He shot his career worst FG% last year, but that is still a mind-blowing .477.
Terence Stansbury - Stansbury Steak, as Vedd likes to call him, will provide a boost in steals, scoring, and shoots at a great clip from downtown. However, looking at this team, this was a bad pick. I did not need additional scoring here, and should’ve gone with a PG instead.
Fason 1:
George Gervin-Elite scorer who can still give me solid rebounding and assists numbers while shooting high percentages. I probably should have taken Westhpahl here though.
Michael Jordan-Went BPA, Jordan should give me good scoring numbers with high shooting percentages. Hoping he can average 2.5 steals a game like he did in the preseason.
Larry Kenon-Drafted Kenon with the intention of sticking him at PF so I could have PF who give me a little bit of everything except for blocks. Probably should have went with a PG or an elite big with this pick though.
DeMarcus Cousins-Got worried with all the big men that were taken before him so I took him a little too high. If I could redo the pick I'd probably take Catfish or Swen Nater.
John Wall-I waited too long to take a PG but I like John Wall's all around game, hoping he can get more steals this season.
Kevin Willis-My team really lacked shot blocking and rebounding so I reached on Willis who I plan to start this season for the Sixers. He averaged 9.7 rebounds and 3 blocks in 27 minutes a game last year.
Donyell Marshall-Wanted a SF/PF who could give me a little bit of everything for a utility player. Think Marshall is really underrated in the league.
Fason 2:
Charles Barkley-Probably the best stat stuffer in the league behind Magic Johnson. Was really happy he fell to me.
Paul Westphal-Can't believe we let Westphal fall to 11. Was really surprised he was still around with my pick. I should have taken him with one of my first two picks.
Hakeem Olajuwon-Needed a big who could be an elite rebounder and shot blocker. Hoping Hakeem can shoot 48% for the year like he did in the preseason.
Jamal Wilkes-Love the rebounding Wilkes gives me from the guard spot. Also expect him to shoot really well like he has throughout his career.
Richard Washington-I had forgot about him earlier in the draft so I was thrilled he was still around in round 5. I expect him to give me really good scoring and rebounding numbers.
Don Buse-Felt I felt I had every base covered with this team so I simply went BPA with Buse. I should have picked him for PG of my other team.
Lonnie Shelton-Took Shelton because he gives me a little bit of everything but I really love his ability to block shots and get steals.
20x4 1:
Khalid Reeves - I picked him to be the leading scorer in TMBSL this year so I obviously think he will fill it up. He also gets assists, steals, pretty good percentages and knocks down 3s. Great all around player.
Grant Hill - Might have reached a little here but I like his ability to fill it up and his solid percentages here.
Moses Malone - Best source of rebounds and blocks you can find. His impact on my FG% worries me.
Emeka Okafor - Actually like him more than Moses for fantasy purposes as he contributes more offensively.
Patrick Patterson - I thought he was great value here as he will stuff the stat sheet on a bad Hawks team. Blocks, rebs, and points galore.
Ricky Sobers - His ppg, 3PM, and percentages were too much to pass up here. Doesn't contribute a lot of assists or steals though.
Jason Kidd - He does contribute a lot of assists and steals. Thought he was great value for the last pick of the draft.
20x4 2:
John Drew - This pick was a reach. I overreacted to his preseason numbers but I still think he is worthy of a late 1st/early 2nd selection. Immediately regretted the pick and wished I would have went Barkley.
Greg Monroe - I love how balanced he is from a fantasy standpoint. Still this is likely a reach, though. Lot of good big guys went later in the draft. It is hard to draft and run the draft.
Charlie Ward - I love this pick. He was the 7th point guard to come off the board, and as Buster will tell you, he finished top 10 in TMBSL in four different stats last year.
Marques Johnson - Another pick that I really like. He will contribute + points, FG%, steals and rebounds for a SG/SF.
Lionel Hollins - This was mainly to supplement what I thought was becoming a strength of my team in steals and assists. I also like to have 2 PGs on every one of these fantasy teams.
Neon Boudeaux - Needed a PF and he fit the bill. Like the value this late.
Paul George - Wanted to beef up on steals again. He also contributes in a bunch of other categories. Was surprised he fell to the 7th.
2. What do you think the strengths and weaknesses of each of your teams are?
2poor 1:
This squad gets buckets. Thompson, Robertson, and King are an insane scoring trio. Except for Artis, this squad has pretty good shooting percentages across the board, but I think he will get enough rebounds and blocked shots to make him worth the roster spot.
2poor 2:
I think this team is interesting because it doesn't seem to have any real strengths or weaknesses. It isn't going to be bottom of the league in any categories, but I don't think it's going to be top of the pile either. I guess rebounding and blocked shots would be the strength if I had to pick one.
Pete 1:
Strengths - Team should put up some great scoring numbers, and my bigs will crush it rebounding and blocking shots. Getting 2 bpg from the PG spot is also huge.
Weaknesses - Wish I had gotten more assists, probably should’ve gone with a PG like Kidd or Foots instead of Dantley at the end. Will also need Big Al to avoid the sophomore slump.
Pete 2:
Strengths - Holy shit will this team score. Truck and Williamson are going to be at or near the top scorers in the league, Walton put up great [HASH]s in preseason and McGinnis and Stansbury will both fill it up from the bench. I think this should also be a really good rebounding team and 3pt. shooting team.
Weaknesses - Like with my other team, I severely miscalculated by not drafting a second PG. One of the biggest values for Walton are the assists he adds as a big man, but with Williamson and no other real assisters, that value will be squandered.
Fason 1:
Strengths-This team can score but that is the only category I'm confident about. Team should also shoot pretty well.
Weaknesses-Everything else, I screwed this team up and went for too much scoring. Two categories I'm most worried about are shot blocking and rebounding.
Fason 2:
Strengths-I think this team is really strong in all categories and I really want to see what the defensive numbers are with Olajuwon, Barkley and Shelton.
Weaknesses-I don't think this team really has any glaring weaknesses but scoring numbers could be low compared to the other teams.
20x4 1:
Strengths - PPG for sure. Also like my AST, FG%.
Weaknesses - Turnovers will be a problem.
20x4 2:
Strengths - Steals and assists. Should lead the league in steals.
Weaknesses - I think rebounding and blocked shots will be the weakness of this team.
League Wide Questions:
1. Sleeper of the draft?
I think it's Al Jefferson. He had a bad preseason, but with moving onto ank's relatively barren squad, he could put up monstrous numbers this season. Of course, ank could also have traded for Cliff Robinson and Julius Erving by the time this has been posted, so I could be way wrong.
I really like Lonnie Shelton to produce well above where he was drafted. He provides great production in almost every category and is a perfect utility man.
I'll go with Walter Davis because if he can get more shot attempts in Washington to get his scoring average above 20ppg he will be ridiculous. Those preseason shooting percentages are insane (.537 .927 .650 ).
I like Catfish in the 5th round. He is better than many big men who went before him including my selection of Moses in round 3. He doesn't impact you negatively in the percentages and still adds elite value in the big man categories. He also helps your FT% instead of killing it like other bigs.
2. Biggest reach of the draft?
This was a very difficult pick for me, as no one really stands out as being an egregious pick. If I had to pick one, and I do because that's the question, it might be my very own Champ Godbolt. As nice as it is to have someone who contributes in all the categories, he isn't really overwhelming in any of them. Snagging a 30 point scorer like Westphal or Grant Hill might have been a better choice for getting that team started.
I’m going to say John Drew with the 4th overall pick was a pretty big reach. He killed it in preseason but I’ll be surprised if he gets anywhere near that in the regular season, and he doesn’t add enough value elsewhere to justify taking him over someone like Paul Westphal or Charles Barkley.
I'll agree with Pete that John Drew went too high at pick 4. Doubtful he matches those preseason numbers. Was surprised 20s didn't take Barkley.
John Drew was definitely a reach, but to be different I will say John Wall. He went a full round before Don Buse and 2 rounds before Jason Kidd, both who I think will provide just as much if not more value than Wall.
3. Best pick of the draft?
fason getting Richard Washington late in the 5th round is a total steal. We all screwed up letting him last that long.
Fason 2 had two great picks on guys who fell way further than they should have, grabbing Westphal in the 2nd and Richard Washington in the 5th. Westphal should’ve gone top 5.
Dr. J in round 4 was a great pick. I was hoping he would fall to me that round. To get a guy who could average 28/9/4 in the 4th round is great value.
Going full homer here but I think it is Charlie Ward with the 4th pick of Round 3. He is a fantasy stud as he is elite in multiple stat categories.
4. Which team will win the league?
I don't see any real weakness on Pete 2. Just having Magic Johnson means he should be a top 4 team, and then he didn't screw it up with any of his later picks. That is a scary team.
I think Pete 2 will be great because of Magic, but I really like Fason 2’s team. His early picks were great, and Buse and Shelton are perfect utility guys.
I like Pete 2, that team has everything especially great rebounding and shot blocking. Having Magic Johnson is a huge advantage over the other teams in the league.
Boring, but it is hard to go against Pete 2. It isn't just because of Magic Johnson either. It gives him a leg up, but you could draft Magic and then blow the rest of the draft. Pete did a great job supplementing Magic and I don't see any weaknesses on that team with the exception of it not having a 2nd PG.
5. Which team will finish last?
idk, probably one of mine. I think it will actually be between 2Poor 2 and 20s 1. Doing nothing poorly but nothing especially well isn't a strategy that will carry you to the top in a league as shallow as this one. As for 20s 1, I think he's going to have some real issues with turnovers and field goal percentage, which might more than cover up the silly amount of points he's going to score.
The two teams at the end of the first round, 2 Poor 2 and 20s 1, will probably battle it out for the bottom. Neither team stacks up very well compared to the others, and a few guys are going to have to have career years for these teams to reach the top.
I'll say my first team just because it isn't that strong in any other category besides scoring. It probably looks like I intentionally stacked my second team but it was purely accidental, I just butchered my first team.
I will also go with Fason 1. I didn't like the value he got with a lot of picks on this team. I think there were better PGs there when he grabbed John Wall and the team just doesn't wow me at all.
