3001 TMBSL FREE AGENCY PREVIEW
Center
1. Swen Nater C 6'11'' 250 26 B C- C- A- A B
Nater has turned a lot of heads early on this inaugural season averaging a double double with 17.5 points and 16.1 rebounds. Teamed down low with star PF Elvin Hayes, Swen gives the Timberwolves a nasty 1-2 punch down low. Nater will be the most coveted Center this off-season. To enter elite status, Nater much improve his fg%, and become a better rim protector.
2. Randy Denton C 6'10'' 245 27 C+ C- D+ B B A
In a weak free agency class for Centers, Denton finds himself as the #2 center free agent this off season. Denton has shot really well from the field and has provided the Bullets with 11 points and 8.9 rebounds in only 28 minutes per game.
3.Tom Boerwinkle C 7'0'' 265 31 C+ D+ C+ B B+ C
Despite below average shooting percentages, and being overshadowed by Bob McAdoo, Boerwinkle offers nice production in the way of averaging a double double early on this season. Teams that strike out on Nater, may find solace in the 31 year old journeyman.
Power Forward
1. Artis Gilmore PF 7'2'' 240 27 A- C- C A A A
Gilmore will be the most sought after free agent this off season, as teams position themselves to sign the superstar power forward. Gilmore has the potential to make a team an instant contendor, but GM Heel Tiger has not intentions of letting him get that far. Averaging 25/12 to go along with nearly 5 assists, Gilmore will undoubtedly demand a full max contract.
2. George McGinnis PF 6'8'' 235 26 A C- C+ B A- B
The Houston Rockets are soaring high early this season, and a lot of that is due to PF George McGinnis. McGinnis is averaging 21 and 10 while shooting a very good 50% from the field. McGinnis has recently expressed desires to leave Houston this off season after audio footaged surfaced of GM Dildo Worth making racist comments to his personal assistant.
3. Mitch Kupchak PF 6'9'' 230 22 A- C- C- B- A- A
At only 22 years old, Mitch finds himself on the rise as one of the better young big men in TMBSL. The rookie from North Carolina is averaging 20 points and 8.8 rebounds in his first year making a strong push for rookie of the year.
4. Clifford Ray PF 6'9'' 235 27 B- D C A- B+ C
Big man Clifford Ray has managed to start the season managing a solid 14.2 ppg to go along with 10.1 rebounds. Ray has shown a very good percentage from the field, but has struggled to get it going from the charity stripe this season.
5. Dan Issel PF 6'9'' 240 28 A- C- C C+ B A
Issel has been a huge bright spot this season for the surprising Indiana Pacers. Despite offering nothing defensively, Issel has scored 21.5 points/9.4 rebs/3.6 assists on very solid shooting percentages.
6.Dave Robisch PF 6'10'' 235 26 B C C B B B
The Pacers 2nd power forward on this list, Dave Robisch doesn't have quite the impact that the before mentioned Issel has had this season. However Robisch is averaging 13.8/7.8 on much better shooting percentages, and is in serious contention for 6th man of the year.
Small Forward
1. Kermit Washington SF 6'8'' 230 25 B- B- C- A- A- A
Small Forward is the weakest group in free agency this season, but Kermit Washington offers a young prospect with seeming high potential left. Despite poor shot selection, the 25 year old has managed to average 12.2 ppg and 9.9 reb.
2. Bill Robinzine SF 6'7'' 230 23 C+ B- C A- B+ B
Like Washington, Bill Robinzine offers solid production at an early age, and is on a short list of available small forwards worth a damn this off season. Robinzine has started the season averaging 14.5 points and 9.4 rebounds.
Shooting Guard
1. John Drew SG 6'6'' 210 22 B+ A- C B+ B- A
Shooting Guard John Drew exploded onto the scene this season and is averaging a whooping 34.3 ppg/8.6 reb/4.8 assits while shooting .455/.712/.400 The young guard still plays erratic at times, but will improve on his shot selection in the future upping his below average fg percentage.
2. Pete Maravich SG 6'5'' 200 28 A- A B+ B- C- A
As expected, Pistol Pete Maravich finds himself as on of the elite players in TMBSL. Averaging 31.9 points/5.4 rebounds/3.9 assists, Maravich has the Washington Bullets competeing for Atlantic Division title.
3. Don Buse SG 6'4'' 195 26 C A- A A- D+ A
Although playing out of position, guard Don Buse has been one of the few bright spots in the 3000 TMBSL season. Thought to be in rebuild mode, Knicks GM Skrouse has made it known that the team is willing to move Buse before the trade deadline.
4. Billy Knight SG 6'6'' 205 24 A- C+ C+ B+ C+ C
SG Billy Knight has managed to put up very impressive stats early on this season. He's the 2nd leading scorer and 2nd in assists averaging 21.5 ppg/7.6rpg/4.9 apg to go along with 1.5 steals. At only 24 years old, GM Ian Floyd hopes there is more room for growth for first year player.
5. Mike Bantom SG 6'9'' 200 24 B- B C B+ C+ C
Often lost in the midst of Gervin and Archibald, shooting guard Mike Bantom has quietly managed to start out with a nice season, in hopes of helping lead the Jazz to the competitive midwest division title. Bantom has found a nice little niche in the Salt Lake City, however the young guard may choose to implore options elsewhere to become a focal point that he believes he is.
Point Guard
1. Walt Frazier PG 6'4'' 200 31 B- A- A- A- C- A
Point guard Walt Frazier has taken the Rockets on his back this season averaging 26 points, 5.8 rebs, and 8.5 assists to go along with 1.6 steals. Even at 31 years old, Frazier will be the most coveted point guard in free agency.
2. Calvin Murphy PG 5'9'' 165 28 C A- A- B+ D D
Perhaps the most surprising player this season has been point guard Calvin Murphy. At a tiny 5 foot 9 inches, Murphy has established himself as one of the top point guards this season. Averaging 19 points and 9 assists on fantastic shooting percentages, Murphy will have many suitors this off season.
3. Nate Archibald PG 6'1'' 160 28 C+ A- B+ A- D B
The Utah Jazz sport one of the best 1 through 3's in all of TMBSL, and Tiny plays a integral part of that. Tiny in name, but huge in game Nate boasts a 20.3 ppg 3.5 rpb 7.4 apg to go along with 1.3 steals. Although seasoned at 28 years old, Archibald figures to have some gas left in the tank.
4. Brian Taylor PG 6'2'' 185 25 B- B- B+ A C- C
The Memphis Grizzlies too find themselves in rebuilding mode, and may be shopping 25 year old PG Brian Taylor before the trade line. Taylor is putting up solid numbers for the Grizz posting numbers of 19.3 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 7.1 assists.
5. Phil Smith PG 6'4'' 190 24 C+ A- B B C- B
An overlooked part of the Rockets success this season has been at the hands of point guard Phil Smith. Although playing out of position at SG, Smith has still managed to put up respectable numbers of 15.7 ppg 5.3 reb 3.8 apg on very solid percentages. Smith too may be one of the free agents looking to cash in with a new team this off season.
