ASG Update Recap: The Cavs are 1st across the board though the T-Wolves are hot on their tails in the +/-. Both hold a sizable lead on the 3rd place Jazz. The West, more specifically the Midwest, owns the rest of top 5 with the Thunder and Rockets. The Great Dirt Umber has the the Clip Show at record lows as they are at a -52.6. That's impressively shitty. The Bulls, Warriors and Knicks are the only other tankers below -20. The Raptors and Mavs are fighting to be in the bottm 5, though both are doing well in regards to their records. It will be interesting to see if they can stay there or if they will trend with their +/- and slide up a little. Meanwhile in Boston Dump is still having a hard time with his tanking efforts as the Celtics are currently 7th from the bottom in +/- and record. See you back at the end of the season!

Welcome to the first 4.0 edition of the Team Efficiency Rating. Before I dive into the numbers here is a short explanation for those not familiar with the NBA's Efficiency Ratings.
The NBA's Efficiency Rating is a very simple way to judge how efficient a player is when they're on the floor. These are different from Hollinger's Player Efficiency Ratings (PER).
Look at this example (from NBA.com) of 2 players from the same game.
Player A 43 MIN 5-22 FGM-A 7-9 FTM-A 8 REB 6 AST 3 STL 0 BL 4 TO 17 PTS
Player B 29 MIN 5-8 FGM-A 3-4 FTM-A 4 REB 7 AST 0 STL 0 BL 2 TO 15 PTS
Who had the better game? Well player A had more points, more assists, double the rebounds and made 4 more FTs on 5 more attempts. His efficiency rating is +11 but player B's rating was +20. Why? He shot 5/8 from the floor while player A shot a poor 5/22, he also only had 2 TO's while player A had 4.
So a player could have more points, rebounds, assists, steals and blocks than another player but not be as efficient.
The formula the NBA uses is very simple:
Points + Rebounds + Assists + Steals + Blocks - Turnovers - Field Goals Missed - Free Throws Missed
FYI - the 2nd update will come around the ASG, and the last after the final sim.
And without further ado here are the Team EFF ratings through Sim 5.
Quick Analysis:
The West shows off its offensive prowess with the top 4 teams in offense efficiency. OKC leads the way with a decent gap ahead of the 2nd placed Peliicans. The only East team to claw into the top 5 is the Pacers, and the only other 2 in the top 10 are the Cavs at 6 and the 76ers at 10.

Knicks 114.5
Raptors 106.7
Bulls 98.1
Clippers 94.2
Quick Analysis:
The West again owns the defensive end of the EFF ratings. The Timberwolves are the team trying to slow down some of these western offensive powers. The East looks a little better here with the Cavs, 76ers and Nets in the 2, 3 and 4 spots respectively. The Lakers round out the top 5 and complete the list of team with oEFF ratings below 120. Notably there are not teams in the top 5 of both EFF and oEFF.

Knicks 139.3
Clippers 142.3
Warriors 144.6
Mavericks 144.7
Quick Analysis:
This rating has predicted quite a few team that have made Finals appearances in previous TMBSLs. Let's see if that holds true in 4.0. Ian and h/t are hoping that notion holds true as they are leading the way by a wide margin. The only two teams rating +20 or better. The Thunder, Lakers and 76ers round out the top 5.
Tankers:
The Warriors, Raptors, Bulls and Knicks are all trying their best to tank like a pro. But none are doing it better than the GreatDirt Umber. Lob Shitty is posting a +/- rating of -48.1. That's damn near the 2nd and 3rd worst ratings combined (-54.3). They are on a fast track to the best odds at #1 pick in the '01 rookie draft, but as we all know, those ping pong balls are fickle bunch.
