Guess What's Back, Back Again,
TMBSL is back, Tell a Friend Round Table
TMBSL is back, Tell a Friend Round Table
1. Post a gif of your reaction to hearing we were starting up TMBSL again
2. Talk about a time where something happened in the world of sports or your own life and you wanted to talk about it in shout and couldn’t because of the break
With the break between 3.0 and 4.0 falling between the end of college football season and the start of the NBA playoffs, there largely hasn't been anything relevant for me in the world of sports, but I did get a few sim nostalgia moments when I hear obscure references on the radio like Ike Diogu or Corey Maggette.
Would have been amusing to have shout around last time I was arrested with Trofie being there and all. Maybe we actually did have the league going then. It was mid-December. I don't remember. If so, it would've been cool to have shout/TMBSL in jail those 2 days.
The only sporting even I can think of is March Madness. I missed shout the most because I'm usually in their throughout the work day, and on slow days it usually helps the days go by faster.
The one moment that really sticks out to me was the OKC v. Miami game in Miami. That 10 minute stretch where Lebron and KD were going back and forth was some of the best basketball of the season. Shout during that stretch would have been awesome with JHB and 2poor :fap: everywhere each time KD hit another deep 3 and when the Thunder finally pulled away and blew out the Heat. Pretty much all of KD’s scoring streak would have been great to talk about in shout.
3. Other than the obvious answers of RW and Mops who is the one GM you are glad didn’t return?
I'm much sadder at the good ones that didn't return than glad at the few bad ones. On top of that, mops was the only one I genuinely didn't get alone with.
Would've liked to have ZPZ and ohh back but neither was a huge loss to me, although I like them both. Was a little worried about Ward and Dil since they're both good, active GMs, but luckily both decided to return. Mops and RW not being here is great, though. Can't be said enough.
I don't know who didn't return outside of Bankz, Zpz, and Ohh. All three will be missed by me, I really enjoyed all of them in the league. So I think the obvious answers of Mops and RW are the right answers in this case.
I know this is an unpopular opinion, but I am glad ZPZ is gone. He only ever cared when he had a good team. Any non-OG gm would have been run off for being as disinterested as zpz was when he had a bad team. While he was never a problem for the commish (always had his stuff in on time) I was never a big fan of his. The league is better off with a GM that will actually be present even if his team sucks.
4. Now that the creation draft is done, who did the best job drafting. Who did the worst?
From a purely drafting perspective, I like how dilworth has built his team without having a 1st round pick. JHB's team is off to a hot start so that speaks for itself and I liked the position I've put myself in with my creation 1st rounder being slotted in the 19th pick spot, Elvin Hayes and Swen Nater are players I felt should have gone much earlier and was glad to have been able to snag up. In terms of worst, my pick would be devine. Though he didn't mortgage his future like he did in 3.0, his results have been no more/less mediocre.
I guess you'd have to put the Thunder up there with the best since they have the best record in the league currently. Not sure if anyone was aware of this as JHB doesn't mention it often. Also like what Dil did. On the worst I suppose any team who gave up future picks and isn't a top team would be there.
Initially it's going to look like the guys who traded firsts to move up and grab more firsts and 2nd rounders did the best job drafting. JHB did an outstanding job and managed to have his core locked up for several seasons, unlike some GM's who sold the farm and have guys without bird years. I think Tyler did the worst. Even though it was post draft, that trade for Leon Douglas is going to set back that franchise a full decade.
He rarely gets credit, but I think H/T did a good job in the draft. He took a lot of risks but he has a strong team. His recent trade for Buse is gives him a lot of balance. He is clearly all-in on this season. He has as good of a top 3 as any team in TMBSL. JHB did a very good job as well in the draft. His team is doing quite well. It is amazing he is being so humble about it. I feel bad for saying Tyler did a bad job in the draft. But he did. It’s extremely difficult to have a grasp on this league as a newbie and trying to manage a creation draft is a tough task. He should have just made his picks and felt his way through the first couple years. Unfortunately he is going to be in the hole for the next 5 or so years.
5. A lot of GM’s are running new teams. How many times have you accidentally clicked on the wrong team name since we restarted?
Not many. That said, I have had to go to a teams DC thread multiple times to see who the GM is before PM'ing them. Definitely gonna take a few seasons to get used to old GM's running new teams.
I haven't clicked on the wrong teams yet, however during the creation draft there was a few times when I texted the wrong person when I though their draft pick was up. It will take a little time to get used to.
I have clicked on the 76ers name on the rosters/sim page numerous times so far. It is really weird seeing the knicks logo next to Skrouse’s name and even weirder seeing anyone not named Oh GM the Jazz.
6. What are the differences you have noticed in the way the sims are playing out right now compared to the end of 2.0?
Didn't pay much attention to the end of 2.0, but it seems like scale is tipping immensely to the side of offense compared to creation season 2.0 where the turnover rates and scoring/defenses resembled a real NBA league more closely.
The biggest thing I've noticed is you don't see 30+ PPG scorers on every single team. There's some stat inflation, but the grade inflation isn't bad at all. The lack of turnovers is also a big difference.
I haven't noticed much differences to be honest, but I'm not paying a whole lot of attention since I'm tanking. I thought starting all over again would bring the scoring down, but that hasn't been the case at all. I also noticed that there seems to be a lot more rebounds at every position, and way less blocks.
This is my first time through a creation draft with this software, but I am really thrown off by how some guys with mediocre grades are putting up 20+ points on efficient shooting. I can’t figure out if it has to do with the lack of defensive grades or just that somebody has to score. The dominance of some bigs also surprises me. The shooting percentages for some guys are through the roof compared to where they were in 2.0.
7. Post a gif of what you think dump’s reaction was to finding out tmbsl was back
8. What are your thoughts on the new casino?
I think as long as the grade reveals and prospect fake TC mining are kept in check, it should be a good addition. Also very much like the idea of using casino points for reducing injuries.
I don't know anything about the new casino. I guess I should check that out.
I like it. I like the activity that the casino promotes, and I think it will be a nice common ground using rewards that have nothing to do with boosting a players stats. It's something that should please all parties.
The old casino worked just fine until the points got out of control. However I really like where things are going with the new Casino. Odin has come up with some really interesting rewards and I think it will work well. I would expect that eventually we see a return of some of the old rewards, but for now things are good.
9. Who do you think meets in the finals this season?
Despite my early season struggles and the sim Thunder's hot start, I still like my chances in the playoffs, where the software seems to value starter talent more, we've seen from past playoffs that homecourt seems to matter very little and the team with the best starting 5 and the best player usually wins. In the West, I still think Timberwolves so far has the best overall starting lineup and the best player, from the East the biggest threat imo is Miami as long as canes finds 1 more piece to bolster the starting lineup, Bob McAdoo is putting up close to Charles Barkley/KG type of numbers and has the looks of a multiple MVP caliber talent, pending acquiring 1 more good player, I think the Heat makes it out of the East.
Cavs over Thunder in 6. Book it.
Right now the Thunder appear to be on a mission. I think the East is a little more wide open, but I'm going to stick with my preseason pick of the Milwaukee Bucks. I will take the Thunder over the Bucks in 5 games.
I like the makeup of my team. Bob McAdoo is a guy who can lead a team to a title. However, my team is incomplete so I don’t see myself anywhere near the finals. The Thunder look like the team to beat in the West. See them making the finals pretty easily. I am going to be bold and pick the Pacers to come out of the East. Ocho built a solid team and the Pacers got to make the finals in at least 1 league. See the Thunder taking home the 1st title of 4.0
10. What do you think of the random draft classes and what fantasy matchup do you hope plays out?
I'm still cautious about it thus far, In the first 4 draft classes we're apparently getting Magic Johnson and the legendary 84 class, the tankers certainly don't mind it now but I'm slightly fearful of what the league reaction/feedback will be if we get a string of horrible classes for 5+ years.
As far as the fantasy matchups, I'm not too concerned about it, the realism I enjoyed in the sim league, either from a gm or a commish perspective has always been trying to mirror real life in terms of player development. I enjoyed tinkering around with creating Lebron James as a prospect to have the same defensive grade at all 5 starting positions, it doesn't matter to me if he went head to head against Wade/Kobe or if he is starting down a 24 year old Ice Man or a 35 year old Wiggins.
I like the randomization of the draft classes. Definitely adds a new layer of intrigue. As for matchups, I'd really like to see the Lakers starting 5 of Magic, Kobe, MJ, Rodman, and Kareem take on whoever.
The old way didn't really bother me when it came to the draft classes, however if it excites more gm's to have it play out this way, I'm all for it. Just like in real life I'd like to see an all defensive center like Bill Russell go against a stud offensive center like Wilt Chamberlain. Hopefully their classes end up overlapping with the two in their primes.
I really like the idea. This is the 3rd real attempt at a sim league. Its time to mix things up a bit and this is a perfect way to do it. It also helps solve the problem of always having at least a few players in the league that everyone knows. As far as fantasy matchups, I am hoping for a Lebron v. MJ matchup as well as a KG v. AD matchup. Looking forward to seeing how things play out.
