Scottie PippenPosition: SF Age: 22 Height: 6'7 Weight: 210 School: Central Arkansas B C C+ B B ALightly recruited as a 6'1 guard out of high school, Scottie Pippen wound up at Central Arkansas where he flew under the radar for the majority of his career. After his dominant display in college and in workouts, he is no longer a mystery to TMBSL scouts. Pippen can do everything you would ask for on the basketball court but the first thing that jumps out is his ability and tenacity on the defensive end. Pippen combines his length with an intuitive sense of how to play defense to form a ball stopping, stealing machine. Pippen is an elite rebounder for a small forward and was able to average double digit rebounds for the Bears. An extremely efficient scorer, albeit it against lesser competition, Pippen has a fantastic ability to finish inside and while he was selective from downtown, he made over 50% of his threes as a senior. Pippen will need to work on his ball handling at the next level in order to cut down on his turnovers which were a bit of an issue in college. He is a capable passer however and should be able to put up a couple assists per game. Despite his success from behind the arc, Pippen struggled a bit from the free throw line and that is another area where scouts would like to see him improve. However, with his athletic frame and raw athleticism, improvement is something that should be expected from Pippen as he just oozes potential.

Yeah, let's dial this back.
Pippen was raw coming in and went 5th overall.

+4 on Jordan's profile...mmkay So Jordan obviously had a better NBA career, but they are both top 50 players of all time (and in my opinion top 25). Regardless, in making their draft profile grades, I pay some attention to how they fared in the NBA (especially right away) to see how their skills translate, but my rankings are really based on how they were thought of going into the draft and how they performed on the collegiate or international level. Without the benefit of hindsight, Pippen compares well to Jordan coming out of college. The only knock I can find with him is his propensity for turnovers and the fact that he comes from a small school which made some scouts wary. Finally, I didn't make the Jordan profile so it isn't exactly apples to apples (although I am trying to maintain some consistency with Druce's grades). However, I am more than open to criticism and will listen to opinions if there are specific things about his grades you would like to point out.

B C+ scoring grades are fine, but I'd dial back the defense to B and rebounding to either B- or C+, handles should be no higher than C+ too since 80% of the handles grade is in passing. B- handles is what most PGs start their profile grades at.

Jordan swept the Player of the Year awards coming out of college.
I don't think you can say Pippen compares favorably to him.

B- handles is what most PGs start their profile grades at. So my thoughts on handling are since he was an above average passer from the SF spot (over 4 assists per game in college is close to what a lot of PGs put up, 1st PG taken in this draft Kenny Smith averaged 6) but had big time problems with turnovers, B- made sense because you have told me before that passing makes up a large majority of the grade. I thought him a capable passer but someone with poor handling which wouldn't impact his letter grade as much. However, I did bounce between B- and C+ myself so that is an easy compromise to make. With the defense, I wanted to make him one of the best defenders in the draft because that is how we was thought of entering the draft. However, I do think a B grade would be acceptable as well. I completely disagree with a C+ grade for rebounding. He averaged 10 rebounds per game as a SF in college. That is remarkable. He drew comparisons to Dennis Rodman for his defensive and rebounding abilities on the telecast when he was drafted. I am going to change his handling grade and defense, but I am remaining firm on his rebounding grade as that is a fine representation of his ability.

I honestly do appreciate any feedback guys, it is going to take a bit until I get calibrated to what the proper scale is for these guys.

Adjusted his outside grade as well, I think that a C is much more appropriate after further digging.

Without getting into a huge debate, I personally think that he isn't one of the 50 best players to ever play. I think he's an excellent defender and good second fiddle on offense who benefitted greatly from playing next to Mj and on other great teams.

He was some shady officiating away from taking the Bulls to the NBA finals the first year MJ retired. Might be the best on the ball defender of his time. Was able to play 4 positions on the court. In his prime with MJ on his team he was putting up 20 points-8 rebounds-6 assists and 3 steals a game
