After working late into the night to get all the pieces together, Rockets GM Dilworth pulled the trigger on a trade to improve his team’s title chances in the toughest division in TMBSL. Acquiring Khalid Reeves, an elite scoring point guard, for six picks and expiring contracts, the move bolsters Dilworth’s backcourt and should improve significantly scoring opportunities for one of the best young centers in the league, Wilt Chamberlain.
Reeves, who was notified of the trade immediately by Nets management has said he holds no ill-will toward the Nets, but is definitely looking forward to competing for a championship. “I am a little disappointed to be leaving Brooklyn, but it’s clear new management wants to go in a different direction. I couldn’t be more excited to be moving to Houston and teaming up with Stan, Wilt, and George. It’s going to take a lot of scoring pressure off of me, allowing me to find open teammates and focus on the defensive end.”
Asked if he was intimidated by the stacked Midwest division, Khalid was quite candid in his response. “With all due respect: no. Not at all. The Wolves and the Mavs are great squads, but they don’t have the talent at every position that we have.”
After morning practice, we caught up with Wilt and Gervin, both of whom had high praise for Reeves’s game. Gervin commented on the impact this trade would have on the Rockets’ chances in the division. “We’re going to miss Foots and Iggy. We just traded away two key players for this team. We’re going to need folks to step up in a big way immediately if we’re going to stay competitive in this division. I expect Khalid will hit the ground running and we’re going to have a lot of fun winning together if we put in the work.”
Rockets GM, Dilworth, was reached for comment by phone from his office. “Most of the other execs have called to congratulate me. It was widely known that Reeves was on the market, so I suspect some of those congratulations were through gritted teeth.” Asked whether anyone was upset about the trade, Dilworth chuckled lightly and then responded, “oh, no one that matters.”
We also caught up with the new Nets’ GM, AHebrewToo, who told us he wasn’t done moving players. “I’m not going to name names. I’ve tried to be as transparent with these men as I can be. I’ve explained to this team my vision and the players and coaches understand. I think if you look at who is traveling with the team and who is not, you could probably figure out who is on the market right now.”
Asked whether he’d talked individually with the players, AHebrewToo explained that he had. “Of course. This is their livelihood. These men have families and I owe it to them to be honest and open with them. And, frankly, I think that’ll pay dividends down the road. The TMBSL and its players have a bad image of Nets’ management as being absent, aloof, and uncaring. But that’s all changing. The way we run this organization, the way we treat our players, I expect free agents to be lining up at our doors to win championships in Brooklyn in the next few years.
While it remains to be seen whether AHebrewToo can make good on that promise, he’s definitely helped the Rockets on their quest to win the TMBSL 3010 championsh
