-Soup gets my lone 10 rating, as he has shown a clear vision and dealt with a lot of adversity, and somehow has his team contending almost every year.
-he's a machine. best GM in the league. I do think he has led a relatively charmed existence by having Thompson and Kenon always want to come back, and he got a lot of mileage out of raping garbage GMs who were barely invested in the league, but his results speak for themselves. He's the king.
-Soup gets my only 10 because he's the only one of the few truly elite GM that has regular playoff success.
-The dean of GMs
-Built 2 title winning teams, knocked off a 1 seed as an 8th seed and appears to be on track for another contending run after losing Catfish and Moses to FA.


DENVER NUGGETS

-Like a mini dirt with lack of patience and direction, tore down a very good nuggets team and has nothing to show for it
-I don't know too much about Bankz 2.0 history, but 4.0 has been spotty at best. He came into a situation with a talented Nuggets roster and blew it up without getting much in return. In fairness to Bankz, he left a pretty talented roster for me when I took over Toronto, I just didn't know what I was doing.
awful. awful at evaluating his players, at determining what they are worth, and at getting deals done. just a giant pain in the ass.
-He didn't do shit in his first stint and has done even less this time. He's shown he can be a competent GM but we'll see.
-Was offered a king's ransom for Gervin only to piss away 80% of the value by giving away Bobby Jones for jack shit. Nearly impossible to deal with due to his constant -bullshit and lies and shopping around.
-Very underwhelming at a GM in 4.0


HOUSTON ROCKETS

- Good gm. Builds solid teams
-veteran GM who is pretty savvy, success hasn't really been there though
-I have a feeling Dil is ready to build a juggernaut with the current core he has, but he’s only been OK so far. He had a couple nice teams early but has been stuck in perpetual tank mode until last season.
-i'm very impressed with the way dil does things. he always has a really good handle on where his team stands and how he can improve it. he's like 20s in that he brings a lot to the league in the extra non-GM stuff. some of the best articles in the league and he always just seems like a really swell guy.
-Has shown the ability to draft like a champ, make great trades, and win playoff games. One of the best.
-Solid GM, despite whiffing on a few high lotto picks, his new team looks to be headed to the right place after drafting Wilt and striking the trade market while his team was on the rise for Gervin.
-very hit or miss as a GM


MINNESOTA TIMBERWOLVES

-bad playoff results but he is a good GM, he will tell you that
-Knows software in and out and social life shows it
-If these rankings were based on predictions contests, Ian would be a 10. But instead, he has to settle for an 8. Like Buster, Ian has built a really strong team that has crapped out in the playoffs. Last year was especially bitter, but there is no denying that Ian knows what kind of moves to make so he can keep his team near the top.
-a legit great, not a good, GM. It's shocking to me that he has been as shitty in the playoffs as he has. he does put more time and effort into his team than any other GM in the league, but the (regular season) results speak for themselves.
-tough breaks in the playoffs or could possibly be higher
-Ian knows a lot about the software and has a pretty good draft record.
-Same boat as buster, snake bitten luck in the playoffs but has managed to gone through several iterations of roster groups from Hayes to Swen to Grant Hill to Alvin as the alpha dog and maintained sustained success (in the regular season)


OKLAHOMA CITY THUNDER

-Solid 4.0 so far
-One game away from a title, JHB now has to deal with an aging core and an absence of assets. The last time this happened, he launched a successful tankjob and built a strong team. We’ll see if he can do it again.
-i disagree with the way he does a lot of things, some of the contracts he gives out make me want to barf, and he gives away picks way too quickly for my taste, but he's assembled a couple pretty good cores. I still think he had the better team in the finals last season.
-foghorn leghorn of tmb is nearing top tier status
-Go hard or go home

UTAH JAZZ

-Would of been lower but had a great dynasty going early on
-Man 2poor has had some tough breaks in 4.0. He hung tough after Gervin killed his dynasty, and built another contender only for them to also abandon him in free agency. -He's in a little bit worse of a spot now without his draft picks but he's proven he knows how to build a team twice now.
-other than hitting the lottery in creation draft, what has he really done? he tore it down for basically no reason when Gervin left, and has done nothing to recover from last offseason. mediocre GM
-Should have 3 titles but [HASH]software. He's in a tough spot now. If he can get out he'll earn this 7, if not maybe those titles were due to accidentally dominating the creation draft.
-Built one of the best early 4.0 near dynasty teams but has yet to get anything of significance done since the Gervin departure.
-Had first dynasty in 4.0. Ended prematurely due to FA's leaving.


KANSAS CITY-OMAHA KINGS

-He's been really good at all aspects of GMing, from drafting to making trades to tweaking his lineups. I thought the Barkley trade was a slight overreaction but Pee Wee looks like the real deal and 20s stocked up on now valuable second round picks, so who knows how long this tank will actually take.
- Good overall gm
-he's a great GM, he makes good trades, his signings make sense. he's also just a great presence in this league, good in shout, good with four factors, good as dm.
-He hasn't been back for very long but has already won a title and cemented himself among the elites. I'm giving him a 9 with the best chance to get my second 10 on future rankings.
-Came in and took over for one of the worst GMs in 2.0-4.0 an immediately turned the franchise around. lucking out with Barkley in his first season helped, but building a championship team in less than 3 seasons after being left with a bare cupboard speaks for itself.
-Knew he would be a great addition to the league and he's proved it. Rebuilt too quickly IMO.


VANCOVER GRIZZLIES

-think druce is an underrated GM, he has a title and "retooled" his title team without ever really bottoming out, very impressed
-Very solid 4.0 so far
-An impressive title run in 4.0 and a team that seems maybe one trade away from making another title run. Druce has done a good job of building his teams without having to give up many assets, but he should probably try to sacrifice a few to build a real juggernaut.
-druce is another GM that i think is better than his team's performance. he has a legit claim at best drafter in the league and his trades all make sense to me. He also likes to give Ian shit, which I enjoy.
-A veteran GM who finally won his first title. Very solid GM.
-Won a title but haven't put together the rebuild one would expect out of an elite GM with Emeka and Marques Johnson, two of the best youngsters in the league on the roster.
-been pretty damn solid in 4.0


GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS

-hands down the worst GM in this league, this isn't even close.

-Questionable moves mixed in with some bad luck
-Only success was with Magic (and even that was not great compared to what MJ has done with him), good at getting deals done, lacks direction & patience
-Dirt had both a strong reputation and strong core when I joined TMBSL, but both have been decimated after Magic left in FA. He got dealt a shit hand by the software but has also displayed a schizophrenic strategy of trading assets for players and then immediately trading those players for assets, never really coming out on top.
-yeah he got screwed by Magic, but I really disagreed with a lot of the stuff he did before that. He seems to have fallen back into his making moves just to make moves bad habit, instead of making moves for an actual reason.
-A version of trofie with substantially less draft and FA luck. He'll be back with a vengeance before we know it.
-Dirt's 4.0 career has been pretty disappointing to say the least, instead of being one of the elites, he's at best middle of the pack.
-very questionable moves as a GM


LA LAKERS

-one of the best GMs in the league, consistently has good teams, always thinking about the future as well, manages cap well
-Buster is a real bastard who turned a shitty team into a perpetual contender after one offseason. His 4.0 run has been defined by a pretty disappointing run of playoff exits, but I don't hold that against him. He's had one of the longest runs of team success in 4.0 and I have a feeling he's not going away anytime soon.
-i think buster's GMing has been better than his team's performance in 4.0. he's made a ton of trades that i think were great, his team just peaked in the wrong seasons, and Big Dog has been a giant disappointment.
-I think the shine from 2.0 is off but still a very good GM
-Great drafter and team builder. No one is better at juggling huge contracts.
-Less active compared to his 2.0 glory days, snake bitten luck in the postseason and lack of a title keeps him out of the top tier.


PHOENIX SUNS

-This has been one hell of a rebound. If we did these a couple seasons ago, Ank probably would've been in the middle of the pack or worse. But after a crazy string of trades landed him a super talented roster, Ank will probably be near the top of the heap again.
-i really want to put him higher because what he has done over the last 2 seasons is some of the most impressive GMing 4.0 has seen, but everything leading up to that can't be forgotten.
-I don't know what the fuck he's doing half the time.
-Had to trade rape a noob GM to wash away the Bowie stink but has a solid team currently.
-Borderline to an 8.
-Rocky start but finally coming into the Ankly we know and somewhat love


PORTLAND TRAILBLAZERS

-this is a tough rating because i really like this guy as a human being, but he's quickly turning into scat west.
-Congrats on the legalization. I'm jelly.
-Held on to Walton for way too long and got very little in return, team now in limbo
-Had some decent teams early on, but not much to comment on lately

-The Yawnics have pretty much been in that 7-8 seed for the duration of 4.0. Forever decent, never great. I think Yawn has recognized that his team is plateaued and will -shake things up soon, but he may have been better served doing it a season or two ago.
-yawn is weird because he's definitely engaged in the league, but he doesn't always seem engaged with his team. he seems very content to do nothing but rack up 45 wins and the 6th seed every season. i need to see a desire to be better than good to rate him any higher.
-and not one fuck was given
-Slightly more active than duc
-Not one of the most active GMs and haven't built a team that made the conference finals yet.

I had to trade all my assests for my picks instead of trading those for addition picks...losing Magic killed me. Getting shit contracts like Paultz was to just get my pick back and had to put mysepf in shit o they wouldn't have traded them to me. Very didapointing 4.0 to say the least

Dump - 6, Dump was dealt a winning poker hand with the infamous Dump FA and didn’t screw it up, but still wasn’t able to come up with a title. However, it’s hard to give him credit for building that team when software essentially handed it to him. Points docked for his well-publicized trade consultations.

Fason - 6, our very own Sam Hinkie. Fason was headed in a great direction and I think would’ve been a title contender with the roster he had assembled if Jordan resigned. Instead, he’s had to tear it down and is now revolutionizing the tanking philosophy in sim league. We’ll see if it pays off down the road.

Handsomepete - 5, I give myself a 5. I think I’ve done a good job in building this current team but am still prone to some newbie mistakes. I also sold a lot in order to compete, and might have been better served to be patient with the young pieces I already had.

Hebrew - 3, Out of the four new GMs, Hebrew is one of the most promising. He’s been pretty active and has asked some good questions. Still, he just started so he’s got a long way to go before earning a reputation as a good GM.

Ht - 8, I was really tempted to give H/T a 9 for his 4.0 GMing, but he made a pretty big mistake going over the HC last season and breaking up a title team. I still think the Cavs will make noise, and H/T responded very well after his original finals team broke up in FA. It’s a toss-up between him and MJ for most successful Eastern Conference GM.

Kn88 - 5, kn hasn’t had much success but he’s put himself in a really good position for the next few seasons at least. I think he’ll make a deep playoff run this season or next.
MJ - 7, MJ was openly discussing quitting when he won the Magic Johnson sweepstakes. Since then, he’s been to two finals, won a championship, and set records for wins in a season. In terms of skill, he has been able to build a strong enough team around Magic that he is a contender for the foreseeable future.

Rv - 4, The winner of this offseason still has a lot of work to do to climb these rankings. His hornets really haven’t done much in 4.0 and he’s made some huge blunders that ruined a promising core. Hopefully he’s learned from that, as he is poised to break out in a season or two.

Rw - 3, RW built a pretty good team when he first joined 4.0 by mortgaging the future, and catches a lot of shit that is probably undeserved. However, his recent performance has been Devine-level bad.

Soup - 10, Soup gets my lone 10 rating, as he has shown a clear vision and dealt with a lot of adversity, and somehow has his team contending almost every year.

Spl - 4, Spl is the cream of the new GM crop in my opinion. He’s made some good draft picks and the contracts he offered in FA this offseason shows he already knows more about valuing players than I do. He’ll probably shoot up these rankings once he gets his feet wet

Trofie - 9, a few seasons ago Trofie had a lot of interesting pieces but nothing really worthy of the GM reputation he has. But then all of the sudden the dominos started falling, and Trofie built a crazy good team. He’s one of those GMs who are always thinking 2-3 moves ahead.

Tne - 2, This is about where a new GM should be. Frankly there’s no real way to tell where someone fits on this list for a couple seasons. Tne could end up much higher on this list on the next version, but he’s got to build a team first.

Yawn - 5, The Yawnics have pretty much been in that 7-8 seed for the duration of 4.0. Forever decent, never great. I think Yawn has recognized that his team is plateaued and will shake things up soon, but he may have been better served doing it a season or two ago.

20's - 9 he's a great GM, he makes good trades, his signings make sense. he's also just a great presence in this league, good in shout, good with four factors, good as dm.
2poor - 6 other than hitting the lottery in creation draft, what has he really done? he tore it down for basically no reason when Gervin left, and has done nothing to recover from last offseason. mediocre GM
Ankly - 5 i really want to put him higher because what he has done over the last 2 seasons is some of the most impressive GMing 4.0 has seen, but everything leading up to that can't be forgotten.
Bankz - 3 awful. awful at evaluating his players, at determining what they are worth, and at getting deals done. just a giant pain in the ass.
Bruns - 6 a very solid yet unspectacular gm. i like him a lot.
Buster - 8 i think buster's GMing has been better than his team's performance in 4.0. he's made a ton of trades that i think were great, his team just peaked in the wrong seasons, and Big Dog has been a giant disappointment.
Canes - 4 i think he's actually better than his reputation, he had that one squad that i think still has a legit claim to being the best team in 4.0 to never make the finals. but jesus christ he has no clue how to move forward when things aren't going his way.
Devine - 1 hands down the worst GM in this league, this isn't even close.
Dil - 7 i'm very impressed with the way dil does things. he always has a really good handle on where his team stands and how he can improve it. he's like 20s in that he brings a lot to the league in the extra non-GM stuff. some of the best articles in the league and he always just seems like a really swell guy.
Dirt - 5 yeah he got screwed by Magic, but I really disagreed with a lot of the stuff he did before that. He seems to have fallen back into his making moves just to make moves bad habit, instead of making moves for an actual reason.
Druce - 7 druce is another GM that i think is better than his team's performance. he has a legit claim at best drafter in the league and his trades all make sense to me. He also likes to give Ian shit, which I enjoy.
Duc - 4 this is a tough rating because i really like this guy as a human being, but he's quickly turning into scat west.
Dump - 6 dump is like the opposite of dirt in that he was generally very mediocre in 2.0, but has been routinely great in 4.0. the way he retooled his squad after lanier and wbf got too expensive was really great. i'm dinging him a bit because he released catfish and has been rebuilding for quite a while now and it shows no signs of stopping.
Fason - 6 what a find fason has been. already a very solid GM. i like this guy, and i like his commitment to complete scorched earth tanking.
Handsomepete - 5 the best 4.0 addition, as far as everything other than GM skills goes. I don't think he's really lacking as a GM, he just needs a bit more polish (that Stockton deal, cmon man), but he is great at everything else. shout, wire, articles, he's top tier at all of them.
Hebrew - n/a he hasn't done anything yet, it would feel wrong to give him a rating.
Ht - 7 he's been catching a lot of shit for basically everything he's done since he got his title, but heel is also the only GM in the league to take two separate cores to the finals. That's really good GMing, regardless of what anyone think about the Hakeem and Dr. J trades.
IanBoyd - 9 a legit great, not a good, GM. It's shocking to me that he has been as shitty in the playoffs as he has. he does put more time and effort into his team than any other GM in the league, but the (regular season) results speak for themselves.
JHB - 7 i disagree with the way he does a lot of things, some of the contracts he gives out make me want to barf, and he gives away picks way too quickly for my taste, but he's assembled a couple pretty good cores. I still think he had the better team in the finals last season.
Kn88 - 6 this one could be rising quickly, since his current team looks like an upcoming juggernaut, but it took him so long to get anything going in 4.0 that i can't put him any higher than this.
MJ - 5 this rating is probably unfair considering he has a title, but assembling his team was: 1. massive FA luck, 2. desecrating dirt's emotionally destroyed corpse 3. striking gold on one draft pick. i don't think he has done anything especially impressive.
Rv - 4 Paultz contract. The massive Maurice Lucas overpay trade. Indefinite tanking, which was ended only by a dump/scat level FA haul. Very mediocre.
Rw - 3 just a garbage GM. there isn't any one thing in this league that he is above mediocre at. Couple that with him being more sensitive about criticism than anyone else in the league, and his constant need to announce his own GMing brilliance, and he is my least favorite person in this league by an enormous margin.
Soup - 10 he's a machine. best GM in the league. I do think he has led a relatively charmed existence by having Thompson and Kenon always want to come back, and he got a lot of mileage out of raping garbage GMs who were barely invested in the league, but his results speak for themselves. He's the king.
Spl - 5 The only newbie I feel confident rating already. If we do these in another 4 months I think he's going to be much higher. This guy is going to be great. He already has an incredible handle on this league. Props to druce for bringing him in.
Trofie - 10 soup east. his current team looks like a 70 win team to me. he's just somehow always good, and always has more trade assets. where does he get all these trade assets?
Tne - n/a it would seem wrong to rate someone who won't be a GM this time next week.
Yawn - 5 yawn is weird because he's definitely engaged in the league, but he doesn't always seem engaged with his team. he seems very content to do nothing but rack up 45 wins and the 6th seed every season. i need to see a desire to be better than good to rate him any higher.
WolfStannsen - n/a still too early to say. early returns however, are not promising.
