Putting the Mock in Mock Draft - The Prokorov Report’s 3014 Mock Draft
Greetings from Siberia, faithful comrades. The Prokorov Report is back again, with another pre-draft scouting installment. Last year’s Report was a tremendous success, and loyal readers will no doubt gain useful insights from this year’s edition.
Unlike last year’s draft, which many GMs consider the best in TMBSL 4.0 history, this year’s class appears to be very weak outside of a few software generated, Odin tweaked, prospects. A couple of GMs should get lucky, while most GMs drafting in the first round this year will have 4-year contracts of shame to show for their efforts this sim year.
Let's get right to it.
1. Timberwolves select Juan Keaney SG 6’5” 211 23 (A- C+ C+ B- D+ A) (PR – 19)
The cupboard is bare in Minneapolis and the Wolves could have gone in any number of directions with this pick. Ian loves guards in sim league, and will take a chance that Keaney’s got the grades where they count.
2. Warriors select Chris Mihm C 7’0” 265 21 (B+ C- D+ B B B) (PR – 11)
After passing on Myles Turner, Ocho pulls the trigger on Chris Mihm. Mihm should be a powerful pivot to pair with Okafor.
3. Heat select Kenyon Martin PF 6’9” 234 23 (B+ D+ D+ B+ B+ B) (PR – 14)
With the third pick in the draft, Canes selects Kenyon Martin as the future starting PF of the Milwaukee Bucks. Trofie will stick him in the weight room and pump points into his jumper, making him a great 1-2 punch to go with AI.
4. Magic select Paul Ahye SG 6’5” 220 20 (C+ B- B- B+ C- B) (PR – 16)
MJ has no need for instant offense, with Shareef on pace to be TMBSL’s first 50 ppg scorer next year. Ahye will pair to make the best young guard duo in sim league, and will open shots and play great defense as the Magic recreate themselves in the post-Johnson era.
5. Cavs select Quincy McCall PG 6’2” 204 20 (B- C+ B B- D+ B) (PR – 11)
Heels needs a PG, and decides to pass on some better graded software players and takes this year’s Odin special. The Report would do the same. McCall will be the most productive player from this class in 10 years.
6. Hornets select Marcus Fizer PF 6’8” 246 22 (A- C D+ C+ B- B) (13)
The Report feels like Fizer’s future is at SF, and there is no better wing to mentor this young man than Alvin Adams. With a few TCs at SF and some upgrades into his jumper, Fizer could be unstoppable in a few years.
7. Cavs select Scoonie Murray PG 6’0” 171 21 (C C+ A- A- D+ C) (23)
Heels has drafter’s remorse picking McCall at 5 and passing on Murray. Murray has got to come off the board at some point, and Heels is not afraid to take a risk on a PG, especially in such a poor draft. Hopefully McCall can play the 2, with Murray handling point guard for the new-look Cavs.
8. Sonics select Quintin Richardson SG 6’6” 223 20 (B- B- C C+ C+ B) (10)
Yawn’s success with foreign players makes it difficult to pass on Pepe, but ultimately Richardson’s scoring grades and age make him the right pick. It is slim pickins at this point in the draft, and Odin has got to make someone good, right?
9. Bullets select select Bob Douglas C 6’10” 251 20 (C+ C C A- B B) (PR – 18)
Most GMs tend to be risk-averse when it comes to drafting software players, and for good reason. Kn is rewarded, however, with the most NBA-ready big man in this draft.
10. Grizz select Desmond Mason SF 6’7” 224 23 (B+ B- C C+ C C) (PR – 10)
Druce is not shy about ignoring scouted potential when he makes a draft pick, and this selection is no different. Mason’s scoring grades are just too good to pass up at this point in the draft.
11. Raptors select Pepe Sanchez PG 6’4” 203 23 (C C+ A- B- C- C) (PR – 16)
At this point, I think Pete has a problem. Stop. Signing. Point guards.
12. Clippers select Stromile Swift PF 6’9” 225 21 (B D+ D+ B B A) (PR – 11)
Dale Ellis needs help, but he is not going to get it here. There is really nothing left in this draft. It is feast or famine as GMs play a giant game of eenie meanie miney moe in hopes of landing on a serviceable player in the lottery.
13. Knicks select Kina Grannis PG 5’2” 105 29 (<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3) (PR - <3)
Let’s face it, at least she’ll get folks into the Garden to watch what is passing for a basketball team in NYC.
