Centers:
1. Greg Monroe C 6'11'' 278 29 B C C+ A- A- B (Kings)
1. Greg Monroe C 6'11'' 278 29 B C C+ A- A- B (Kings)
The top center spot in this year's loaded free agency class goes to the big man in Kansas City. At age 29 and still very much in the prime of his career, Monroe has been one of the most successful big men in 4.0 history, having been a champion, all star, all league player. As one of the rare few true centers in the league that doesn't suffer from the dreaded Kevin Willis FG% syndrome, expect many suitors for the services of Greg should he test the free agency market.
Projected contract value: 5 years 18 mil
2. DeMarcus Cousins C 7'0'' 295 28 B+ C D- A- A C (Nuggets)
The [HASH]2 spot goes to the 7 footer residing in Denver. Despite making just a big of an initial splash into the league, Cousins hasn't had the sort of sustained success that Greg Monroe was able to enjoy, no doubt as a result of an unsuccessful stint during his time in Charlotte that halted his development. However, despite his lack of individual accolades and rings, the artist known as Boogie is still a force to be reckoned with on the low post, capable of being the primary focus in a contending team's offensive philosophy. Expect just as many sim GMs knocking at Boogie's front door as Monroe.
Projected contract value: 5 years 18 mil
3. Yi Jianlian C 7'0'' 248 23 B+ C C- A- A- C (SuperSonics)
The chairman from Seattle checks in at number 3 on the list. As is the case with most Yawnics players, the chairman has played out his rookie contract relatively under the radar from the rest of TMBSL. Now at 23 years old and still in near mint condition (still 2 SC and 1 RC that can be used), the Asian 7 footer still has plenty of room for growth in the hands of a more active GM. However, given his lack of a signature season of proven production thus far, it is unlikely that Yi will receive full max offers from GMs with enough cap space that might have their eyes set on bigger prizes.
Projected contract value: 6 years 11 mil
4. Moses Malone C 6'10'' 260 35 B+ C- C A A C (76ers)
Now very much in the twilight of his career, the creation superstar Moses has seen his fair share of TMBSL drama involving his free agency decisions. With his 3rd free agency looming ahead, it is unlikely Moses will receive the same attention and angst he once did from his destination choices. However, despite the fact that old man Moses will be on the wrong side of 35 during the upcoming FA, he remains one of the most dominant defensive big man in the league regardless of his propensity for shooting way too much in the playoffs that costs his teams games or even series, teams needing immediate help in rebounding and rim protection will get an immediate injection of elite production at both should they land Moses.
Projected contract value: 2 year max
5. Bill Walton C 6'11'' 255 37 B+ C B- A+ A- D (Jazz)
At age 37, Bill Walton is the oldest FA prospect that gets mention in this year's rankings. Despite being likely an immediate retirement and HoF profile candidate after the season ends, should he choose to look his ex-GM eric in the eye one more time from Salt Lake City and lie to eric's face about hanging up his jersey, Bill will likely receive another similar offer compared to the one the Jazz franchise offered him.
Projected contract value: 1 year 16 mil
Power Forwards:
1. Greg Oden PF 7'0'' 280 23 B C- C- A- B+ A (Kings)
The [HASH]1 spot for power forwards goes to yet another Kings front court player. A youngster coming off his rookie contract and part of the devastating Greg&Greg combo, Oden's production is almost a carbon copy of his center counterpart Monroe during the formative years of the latter Greg's development. As a 7 footer still with room to add more weight and no apparent signs of Kevin Willising any time soon, Oden will receive a slew of 6 year max offers from any team that has the cap space.
Projected contract value: 6-7 year max
2. Brian Grant PF 6'9'' 259 33 B+ C C A- A- D (Magic)
A drastic drop off in talent at the [HASH]2 spot in the power forward rankings. Brian Grant held out all the way until the final day of this year's much much less talented free agency class before signing with the Orlando Magic. Now at age 33 with likely no more room for further development, expect Brian to wait likely just as long before receiving a "committable offer" this year in a potentially historically deep FA.
Projected contract value: 2 years 8 mil
3. Glenn Robinson PF 6'7'' 245 33 B C+ C- A- B D (Jazz)
Once considered one of the most valuable players in the league during his rookie contract days, Glenn Robinson has now become a seasoned vet in the sim league landscape. With his best days well behind him, Big Dogg isn't going to change the face of any particular franchise at this stage of his career but will remain a solid stop gap option for teams missing some post scoring to propel themselves into a better playoff seeding.
Projected contract value: 2 years 8 mil
4. Derrick Favors PF 6'11'' 246 27 B- C- C A- B C (Bulls)
Though his age doesn't show it, The [HASH]4 ranked PF Derrick Favors will have a decade of experience under his belt when free agency rolls around and is very much a finished product with little room for further development. Likely not a day 1-2 or possibly even day 3-4 offer, teams still with cap space on the final day of free agency that needs a big man capable of averaging close to a double double with a couple of blocks every game could make an offer similar to the Orlando offer to Brian Grant this year.
Projected contract value: 4 years 7 mil
5. Patrick Patterson PF 6'9'' 232 30 B C+ C B+ B- D (Raptors)
The first Canadian resident on the free agency rankings, Patrick Patterson spent most of his career with an unspectacular Trailblazers team before being whisked away up north on a MLE offer this season. As a FA prospect, Patterson is very much in the same boat as the previous PF in this list Derrick Favors that will put up solid numbers for his team as a possible day 5 FA target.
Projected contract value: 2 years 7 mil
Small Forwards
1. Kevin Durant SF 6'10'' 235 22 B- A C B+ B- B (Pacers)
One of the biggest potential names in this year's free agency class, Kevin "mint condition" Durant at 22 years old still has all 3 of his SCs and RCs remaining for any potential GM to mold KD as they wish, already a proven devastating offensive force at the small forward position, KD still has the frame to grow into a deadly mismatch as a stretch power forward against the PFs in the league that have no where near the perimeter defense capable of stopping KD. A no brainer full max for any team with the cap space the offer him.
Projected contract value: 6-7 year max
2. Champ Godbolt SF 7'3'' 325 29 B B- D+ A- B+ D (Kings)
The 3rd Kings player to land on this rankings list, Champ Godbolt is one of the most unique players to be created in TMBSL. A small foward by trade with the frame to match up against the largest centers in the sim league and capable of shutting down MVP caliber players like Stanley Robinson in the Finals, Godbolt has proven his playoff worth as well as his regular season prowess. With the cap demands of the front court tandem of Greg&Greg along with needing to set aside future cap space for Stephon Marbury, the Kings will have to make some tough decisions this offseason on which players to keep. Should Godbolt's cap demands be too much to handle, there will be no shortage of potential suitors for Champ.
Projected contract value: 5 years max
3. Paul George SF 6'9'' 210 28 B- A- C A- C+ D (Celtics)
Part of the now infamous swap for Godbolt that has led to the apparently demise of the one year window of the Celtics not-quite-a-dynasty, PG13 is the very definition of the word "solid", capable of scoring 20 points a game and likely no more or no less and grabbing around 2 steals a game at 45% FG, teams looking for a 3rd or even 2nd option at the small forward position could do a lot worse than Paul George. At still only 28 years of age, that D potential shouldn't be too much of a concern as it will likely be more than a few years before Paul starts showing serious signs of decline, unlike the over-the-hard-cap-Celtics-almost-a-dynasty.
Projected contract value: 4 year max
4. Nick Fazekas SF 6'11'' 255 25 A- A- D A- A- B (Bucks)
The 2nd SF prospect on this list that will come off of a rookie contract, Nick Fazekas has had an up and down career thus far with the Bucks. After a promising few TCs that resulted in the coveted A- A- scoring grade as well as A- A- defense/rebounding split, there is little doubt that Fazekas has the on paper grades to warrant possibly a full max. However, his struggles last season with sub par FG% and ineffectiveness at playing the power forward position is not unlike a Tom Barker circa 3008. At this point, Fazekas looks more like a 3rd option for a contending team where he won't be required to carry the full brunt of the scoring load than a [HASH]1 or even [HASH]2 option.
Projected contract value: 5 years 10 mil
5. Al Horford SF 6'10'' 260 24 A- C C A- A- B (Lakers)
One of the more intriguing expiring rookies in this year's free agency class, Horford came into the league drafted as a big man with the hopes of being a capable running mate to Dick Furry for the Lakers. However, a lack of production in terms of rim protection and a case of butterfingers has forced Lakers GM Buster to demote Horford to the small forward position where he has been surprisingly efficient minus the occasional too many turnover games. In a weaker free agency class, perhaps Horford would receive more day 1 attention and even a few max offers, but with other better options like Durant and Godbolt potentially in the class, it is unlikely Horford will be a day 1-2 signing.
Projected contract value: 5 years 9 mil
Shooting Guards:
1. Adrian Dantley SG 6'5'' 213 34 B- A+ B B+ C D (76ers)
Historically one of the weaker positions in the league, Adrian Dantley tops this year's shooting guard class of free agents. With an emerging Ray Allen on the roster and Mike Conley requiring likely a full max contract, it appears less and less likely that the 76ers will choose to keep Dantley on the roster beyond this season, I wouldn't be surprised if Dantley's name starts circulating the trade rumor mills before too long. As one of only 3 players in the exclusive A+ outside scoring club, there is little doubt that Dantley is still very much a capable player even at the age of 34. I expect Adrian to receive at least a few short term max offers from teams that are looking to upgrade at the SG position.
Projected contract value: 3 year max
2. Lex Drum SG 6'4'' 178 27 B+ A C B C- B (Knicks)
Now the subject of a very much controversial trade, Lex Drum is in his contract year without bird rights being very much underpaid. Should Lex decide to test free agency, there is a very good chance that the Knicks front office, having lost out on Lance Stephenson will once again throw the kitchen sink at Mr. Drum to secure his services after trading away a 3017 1st for him.
Projected contract value: 5 years 10.5 mil
3. Hank Gathers SG 6'7'' 240 30 A- C+ C B+ C+ C (Kings)
Following the 25 year irl anniversary of Hank Gathers' death, the sim version of Hank begins his 2nd contract year in TMBSL. As a 30 year old veteran now in the league with no apparent heart problems, Hank offers an unique set of inside scoring focused offensive skills as opposed to the prevalent run and gun outside focused scoring guards. Teams that are more in favor of a post game oriented style of play will no doubt seek out the services of Gathers should he decide to test free agency.
Projected contract value: 3 years 8.5 mil
4. Jamaal Wilkes SG 6'6'' 190 37 C A C+ A C D (Bucks)
Old man Wilkes, like Bill Walton is more likely to hang up his sneakers and call it a career than he is to test free agency again. After 16 years, Wilkes remains one of the best outside shooters in TMBSL, though nowadays he doesn't attempt nearly as many shots a game as his GMs would like, his value lies more in terms of possible mentor camp implications. Having once been a member of the A+ outside scoring club, there is no doubt that Wilkes still has excellent ratings in 3 pointers and jump shot, a skill that if mentored, could immediately jump start a lucky 2nd rounder youngster's career.
Projected contract value: 1 year 8 mil
Point Guards:
1. Mike Conley PG 6'1'' 190 23 B+ A- A+ A- C- B (76ers)
The best player in this year's free agency class, Mike Conley will receive full max offers from any and every team with cap space, enough said.
Projected contract value: 6-7 year max
2. Alvin Robertson PG 6'3'' 190 32 C+ A+ A- A- C C (Rockets)
Having finally washed away the playoff choking stink of his previous Timberwolves tenure and winning a title, Alvin Robertson entering the final year of his full bird max checks in at [HASH]2 in the point guard rankings in this year's free agency list. With a proven track record of regular season dominance and more recently a Finals MVP under his belt, Alvin is perhaps the most decorated player in this year's class. Possessing one of the best outside scoring grades in the league and very much not suffering from Corey Maggette syndrome, Robertson even at 32 years old can still instantly transform the face of a franchise for immediate contention.
Projected contract value: 3 years 18 mil
3. Billy Donovan PG 5'11'' 171 26 C A- A+ B+ C- B (Nets)
Now a well known "Odin special" 2nd rounder, Billy Donovan is the [HASH]3 PG in the FA rankings list. At 26 years old and still having 2 SCs and 1 RC that can be used to boost his already impressive point guard skills, Donavan can be looked at as perhaps an even more developed version of Mustafa Shakur, another 2nd round PG that received a massive contract in last year's free agency.
Projected contract: 5 years 11 mil
4. Moochie Norris PG 6'4'' 180 25 B- A- A- B+ D+ B (Grizzlies)
A more under the radar player that has been buried on the depth charts of the Nets and Grizzlies, Norris appears to have the grades capable of putting up all star level production if given the chance. At 6'4'', Moochie has elite height for a PG and still has all of his upgrades available for GMs to use, look for teams that strike out on elite point guards such as Conley and Alvin to take a flyer on Moochie.
Projected contract value: 4 years 9 mil
5. Teodor Ethan PG 6'2'' 185 34 D- D- D- F- F+ F (Heat)
The man, the myth, the tanking legend. Teddy Ethan will undoubtedly keep cashing dem checks in this year's free agency as an extremely shitty gun for hire for various tanking teams.
Projected contract value: 1 year 9 mil
Projected contract value: 5 years 18 mil
2. DeMarcus Cousins C 7'0'' 295 28 B+ C D- A- A C (Nuggets)
The [HASH]2 spot goes to the 7 footer residing in Denver.
