3016 Cuban Report Mock Draft
Welcome readers! We're thrilled to bring you the first edition of the newly-branded Cuban Report!
Don't fret about the name change, we're still going to bring you the same hard-hitting and reliable information you've come to expect from the Report.
This year's draft is perhaps the most unpredictable in years, but the Report's proprietary software engine, which is valued at $8 billion, should make this year's draft class as clear as mud. We expect this mock draft to be updated after we've had a chance to see some of these players in action at the Nike Hoops Summit (we're currently in talks to acquire the naming rights to this combine).
1. Utah Jazz
Frank Selvy (SG: B+ B C B C B) (CR – 20)
The Jazz roster is devoid of talent, as they are beginning their tank this year. 2Poor’s return to glory could be short at hand if Frank Selvy turns out to be as good as the Report thinks he will be. At the very least, he’ll bank some dump bucks this year.
2. Memphis Bobcats
Chet Noe (C: C C C- B+ B+ A) (CR – 20)
Point guard is the only obvious hole in the Bobcat’s roster, but the Report assumes Odin will target the strong PG class in FA. Accordingly, Memphis will take the BPA in Chet Noe.
3. Miami Heat
Bob Pettit (C: B+ C- C- B B+ B) (CR – 14)
Cane’s flirts with taking a PG at #3, but without any obvious studs in this class, and with a roster not ready to compete, Cane’s picks a good looking center prospect and plans on tanking again next year.
4. Charlotte Hornets
Dick Farley (SG: C A- C+ C C- B) (CR – 13)
It remains to be seen whether RV will match the offers for Scoonie Murray this free agency, but we’ll assume he will have a long-term PG locked up. Nick Anderson is not a good player in TMBSL, and RV decides to try again at SG and takes one of the many Dicks available.
5. Portland Trailblazers
Jim Fritsche (PF: C B- C- B- C+ B) (CR – 13)
Duc’s Blazers currently don’t have a player listed at PF on the roster, and Fritsche is a good looking prospect for this roster. Duc takes the defensive big and plans to keep tanking next year.
6. Cleveland Cavaliers
Lou Tsioropoulos (SF: C C+ C- B+ C+ A) (CR – 12)
H/T goes for the potential and hopes he can turn a great defensive wing into a competent shooter. McCall, Ellison, WCS, and Big Lou should create a defensive identity in Cleveland.
7. Golden State Warriors
Irv Bemoras (PG: B- B- B- C+ D+ A) (CR – 10)
The young Warriors team is stock-piling talent. With a number of young, good players and draft picks, the Report expects ocho to make some big moves this off season to become a contender. Even though we don’t expect ocho to make this pick, we’ll give him Irv at #7.
8. San Antonio Spurs
Kenny Sears (PF: B D+ D+ B B- A) (CR – 10)
Victor has got a number of bigs on his squad, but none of them are very good at all. Hopefully Kenny Sears can be an answer to this team in the post.
9. New York Knicks
Kina Grannis (PG: C C+ C+ C+ D+ A) (CR – 5)
No explanation necessary.
10. Los Angeles Clippers
BH Born (SF: C+ B- C- C B+ A) (CR – 11)
Born’s not a bad looking wing prospect, but that defense is a little concerning. Hopefully that rebounding isn’t all jumping. Wait, maybe there is a bit of drafter’s regret here.
11. Golden State Warriors (originally Atlanta Hawks)
Gene Dyker (SF: B- C+ C+ C+ C+ A) (CR – 10)
Dyker’s a good looking all-around prospect and looks to have the potential to grow. If a few of these C+s turn into B-s or Bs in TC, ocho, or whomever ocho trades with, will get a great young player.
12. Memphis Bobcats (originally Minnesota Timberwolves)
Dutch Burch (PG: C+ B- B- C+ D+ A) (CR – 9)
We’re hedging on Odin picking up a PG in FA, and giving him Dutch near the end of the lotto. The be-spectacle’d eagle scout looks to put on a show in Memphis.
13. Indiana Pacers
Ray Felix (C: B D+ B- B- B- B) (CR – 13)
JW hasn’t been afraid of poor shooting prospects in the past, and that won’t change here. If things don’t work out on the court for Felix, the Pacers could try him out as a personal barrista.
