With the dawn of a new Dumptitle, I think this is the best time to determine a new way to measure success. Some of you may already be familiar with the Regular Season Championship belt idea, which originally spawned on Reddit. Here's a good write up on Grantland (RIP) that breaks it down, but basically it imagines a league where last season's champion comes in with a title belt. That belt is up for grabs any time the beltholder plays a game, and whoever holds the belt at the end of the season is crowned the Regular Season Champion. The belt then resets the next season to whoever won the championship the previous year.
So without further ado, I give you the inaugural TMBSL Regular Season Champions: The DENVER NUGGETS
As you can see, this was a really tumultuous year for the belt. 22 of 29 teams held the belt at one point in the season, and every team got at least one shot at the title. One of the more surprising things is that the Kansas City Kings, who made it all the way to the finals, never once held the belt. In fact, they only got one chance at it, losing to then-beltholders the Utah Jazz on Day 80.
Also, GM Dumptime almost went two-for-two this season. The Celtics held the belt going into the penultimate day of the season only to be upended by the Denver Nuggets, much to the relief of the rest of the league.
In addition to tracking where the belt went, I also thought it would be fun to look at who had the best record this season in games where the belt was on the line, and who had the best record as the defending belt team. I also added divisional totals, because people who aren't in the Central division seem to like that for some reason.
Lastly, here are some superlatives, in case you don't like to read tables and look at graphics. Bankz , as you reflect on the previous season, don't look on it as a failure. As TMBSL's resident wrestling expert, I don't think anybody would appreciate this belt more than you. You've earned it pal.
