St. John's United Methodist Church
C B D A- A- C
James H. Beard was once a highly-regarded D/R prospect straight out of high school. He spent the next few years languishing as a role player who would come off the bench after several beers on the worst team in the fraternity intramural leagues at the University of South Carolina. After several years away from the game, James H. Beard is back to make his mark.
A textbook pest, Beard is the type of player who sets unnecessary hard screens in transition just to fuck someone's world up, lets no one shoot layups, and makes sure to swing his elbows as high as possible when securing a rebound. He led his high school (church league) team in rebounds, fouls, foul-outs, intentional fouls, technical fouls, and flagrant fouls. Although a major plus on defense and on the boards, he's not going to fill the stat sheet on offense unless you're counting hard screens and percentage of touches ending in a shot (because shooters SHOOT). His range extends to the other end of the gym if you make the mistake of passing him the ball instead of calling for a screen. He blocks more shots than you would expect for a short, fat big, but you also would expect a short, fat big to block 0 shots so don't get too carried away with your expectations. His quick hands produce steals often, but don't expect him to get on the perimeter and guard anyone with even below average foot speed.
Strengths:
Strength
Rebounding
Boxing out
"Glue guy"
Overly willing to do the dirty work that it takes to win - rebound, steal, block, defend, smack players on the other team in their junk when no one is looking
Great trash talker, will fight in the parking lot if necessary
Low turnover rate because once he has the ball he isn't passing it
Weaknesses:
Inside Scoring
Speed
Quickness
Agility
Foot speed
Movement
Acceleration
Jumping
Leaping
