THE CUBAN REPORT DRAFT GRADES
Heat – B+
It’s not hard to draft Frank Selvy, even if your name is Bill Murray and this is your third pick at 1.1 in three years. Canes made some decent picks later on and gets credit for those picks, bringing his draft grade up to a B+.

I’d like to give duc an A-, but it’s too early in the grading process. Drafting two great bigs to a tanking team is just great GM’ing an the value with these picks is very good. Fuck it, duc, you get an A- from me.

I get it. Dirt designed him so he’s got grades in the right places. But we believe in absolute objectivity here at the Report. Credibility is our middle name, and we’re not giving Dirt special treatment here for overpaying to move up to 1.3 to draft a player we think, based on his Report grade, he could have gotten in the second round.
1.3 Dutch Burch PG 6'2'' 204 22 C+ B- B- C+ D+ A (9)

In addition to credibility, we at the Report play by the rules and refuse to use hindsight in judging a GM’s draft picks. Accordingly, we do not take the Nike Summit into account in determining these grades. In years past, 2Poor would have received a D for these picks, but we at the Report believe he may be reading these grades and desire his vote in our poll. Accordingly, we’ve given him what we believe is an extraordinarily generous grade for his efforts.

While Tex may not have the best big-man grade, he does have an elite name given the reigning commissioner. The rest of this draft class were a series of great decisions from user rv.

Quantity? Check-plus. Draft for need? Check. Quality? Check/Check-minus. Odin knew he had his post players in place and was searching for the Bobcat’s future point guard. One of these 3 point guards is bound to hit, and he’ll be able to send one or two of the others to Minnesota for a couple of first round picks.

It’s not that we at the Report don’t like these picks, it’s just that we think Ocho could have done a lot better with these picks. Gene was the only pick that wasn’t an obvious stretch. Coming out of a successful tank, it’s not clear he needed the help, but it would have been nice.

Knicks – Improving
We’ve never been in a special education class, and we don’t know how they grade, but we have to imagine they give subjective grades that give parents/guardians an idea of whether the student is improving. We here at the Report will take a similar approach with the Knicks. Two gold stars here.

Boris is an objectively average pick here at 1.9. I don’t dislike it, I don’t love it. I guess I like it. Shit, I mean we don’t dislike it, we don’t love it. I guess we love it. The Report is a multi-billion dollar enterprise, not just the musings of a single man.
1.9 Boris Nachamkin SF 6'7'' 228 21 B C C- B C+ B (11)
Nuggets – B+
If we’re the Nuggets organization, and only have one elite big locked up, and a big need at point guard, we sure as hell would trade up to pick two bigs. They’re good picks at the end of the lotto, and a position of need for Bankz before resigning Jermaine. Now after signing JO he can flip them for a decent point guard, like Billy Donovan.
1.12 Kenny Sears PF 6'9'' 261 20 B D+ D+ B B- A (10)

Nets – A+
Without a pick in the first round, the Nets move into this draft and take two of the top three prospects in the entire draft. Those two picks alone are worth the grade, but then you have to consider the scouting staff’s identification of Bobby “Slick” Leonard, as the point guard of the future (once Bankz trades for Billy Donovan). It’s just a shame that Reggie isn’t still in Brooklyn. BOOM BABY!

Great draft from the Indiana Pacers. They needed another wing to compliment Nash and Durant and have a decent chance of finding a competent starter from these three prospects. That’s about the best you can hope for from a couple of late firsts and a late second round pick.

We can’t decide whether Trof is trying to tank or compete, which would inform our grade. If Trof is trying to tank, these picks deserve an A because they are just bad. It’s only fitting that vedder has only one pick, and no first round picks, in a draft from the 50s. Not many euros coming to the NBA back in those days. That said, if he’s going to pick a player with a first name like Robert, we approve of a last name like Houbregs. You don’t draft this late in the second round if you need talent on your roster, and that’s a good thing for Dil because he’s not getting a good player. He could have done worse by drafting a 6’6” defensive big, like Ian did, but this is still pretty bad. We’re really disappointed we can’t change the Timberwolves’s grade. This is irritating.
