To piggy pack off of a discussion had in shout last week. I wanted to look all-times for each franchise.
Rules I used:
1) Take players when they were at their peak or at least had the best historical season at that position for the franchise
2) Players had to spend at least one full season with the team
3) I tried to keep players at the position they actually played while on the team, made some exceptions for SG/SF and PF/C.
Feel free to suggest changes and I can make edits.
PG: Stephen Curry
SG: Ray Allen
SF: Ronald Savage
PF: Bob Petit
C: Bill Walton
Savage was moved from PF to get Petit in there. 4/5 of this team were acquired by Duc.
PG: Rowdy Eavenson
SG: Kristaps Porzingis
SF: Myles Turner
PF: Dick Furry
C: Tobi Oyediji
Was a revolving door around Turner all those years. They’ve had some great bigs, but struggled to find guards. I went with Rowdy over Lawson for selfish reasons.
PG: Kenny Anderson
SG: Kevin Brooks
SF: Champ Godbolt
PF: Charles Barkley
C: DeJuan Blair
Anderson/Brooks and Godblot/Barkley played on the same teams. Trofie would have a championship or two if he kept them together.
PG: Eric Bledsoe
SG: Jesus Shuttlesworth
SF: Jon Pierce
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: DeJuan Blair
I like Bledose over Irving Perkins was considered for 3-5. Moses Malone is the other big that I considered.
PG: Oscar Robertson
SG: Jimmy Jackson
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Emeka Okafor
C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Robertson/Okafor has been the best inside-outside combo we’ve had. Durant had his best years with Bulls.
PG: Jason Kidd
SG: Benji Wilson
SF: Julius Erving
PF: Bob Lanier
C: Al Jefferson
Erving is underrated when we talk about all time great players. Al Jefferson won the coin flip over Hakeem Olajuwon.
PG:Jason Kidd
SG: Clyde Drexler
SF: Alvan Adams
PF: Bob Lanier
C: Joel Embiid
Celtics being one of the most successful franchises in 4.0 is not a fluke, they’ve had a lot of talent. I went with Adams over Godbolt because of the MVP award.
PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Jimmy Chitwood
SF: Sandor Clegane
PF: Dick Furry
C: Greg Monroe
Johnson is the only one to not win a title with the Clippers. Thanks to Pete for reminding me that Magic started with the Clippers, I originally had Alvin Robertson at PG. I’d like to see Dirt list all the great players he’s had.
PG: Don Buse
SG: John Williamson
SF: Marques Johnson
PF: Emeka Okafor
C: Dikembe Mutombo
All won titles with the Couv. Grizzlies have also had Bobby Jones, Alvan Adams, Bill Sharman and Catfish.
PG: Isiah Thomas
SG: John Drew
SF: Charles Barkley
PF: Jon Pierce
C: Dick Furry
John Drew was great for W2D way back when. I also considered Jerry West, Michael Jordan and Richard Washington.
PG: Khalid Reeves
SG: Frank Selvy
SF: Truck Robinson
PF: Bob McAdoo
C: Emeka Okafor
Reeves over Mike Conley and Robinson over Reggie King were the only questions with this group.
PG: John Williamson
SG: Clyde Drexler
SF: Michael Smith
PF: Julius Randle
C: Boogie Cousins
We haven’t had much talent move through Charlotte.
PG: Don Buse
SG: George Gervin
SF: George Ackles
PF: George Johnson
C: Jonas Valanciunas
I had to get Gervin and Ackles in there so Rick Barry was bumped from SG. Caldwell Jones and Blake Griffin wouldn’t be bad alternatives for George Johnson.
PG: Brandon Knight
SG: Kevin Brooks
SF: Charles Barkley
PF: Greg Monroe
C: Greg Oden
Kings would have a great second unit with Stephon Marbury, Kristaps Porzingis, Larry Johnson and Catfish.
PG: Doug Overton
SG: Lance Stephenson
SF: Bobby Jones
PF: Stephon Templeton
C: Bill Walton
3/5 were from Spl’s Knicks. My apologies to Eric for including Bill Walton and leaving out Josh Smith.
PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Kristaps Porzingis
SF: Julius Erving
PF: Jermaine O'Neal
C: Greg Oden
This reminded me how Porzingis and O’Neal left the Lakers to take less money elsewhere. Buster’s had too much talent to list.
PG: Magic Johnson
SG: Adrian Dantley
SF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim
PF: Glenn Robinson
C: Greg Monroe
Johnson, Dantley and Monroe were all on 3008’s 72 win team. Rex Walters and Brook Lopez were the only players from JHB’s teams that I thought about.
PG: Khalid Reeves
SG: Matthew Lockhart
SF: Georges Niang
PF: Kevin Garnett
C: Tobi Oyediji
A ton of talent here with 5 hall of famers. This would be a top 3 team if we were doing rankings. Moses Malone was the only other great player that I could think of as a Net.
PG: Terrell Brandon
SG: Jimmy Butler
SF: George Gervin
PF: Glenn Robinson
C: Boogie Cousins
Gervin and Robinson were both on the Nuggets team that Bankz blew up. Robinson over Mystic Stone was the spot I had to think about. Jermaine O’Neal didn’t blow up until after he was traded.
PG: Bob Cousy
SG: Gary Bossert
SF: Kevin Durant
PF: Jon Pierce
C: Dwight Howard
Went with Cousy over Khalid Reeves since he won an MVP award. JW saved the league when he broke up the Bossert/Reeves/Durant core.
PG: Niklaus Templeton
SG: Kristaps Porzingis
SF: Tobias Harris
PF: Chris Webber
C: Bill Walton
Harris over Walter McCarty was the only decision to make with this team.
PG: Khalid Reeves
SG: George Gervin
SF: Stanley Robinson
PF: Cliff Robinson
C: Wilt Chamberlain
All five won at least one title with the Dilnasty. They've also had Khalid Reeves, Truck Robinson and Kristaps Porzingis.
PG: Mike Conley
SG: Jimmy Chitwood
SF: Charles Barkley
PF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim
C: Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
Jabbar over David Robinson, Catfish and Moses Malone was the only position I had to think about. Wish I had Shareef during the first 13 seasons of his prime.
PG: Ty Lawson
SG: George McCloud
SF: Kristaps Porzingis
PF: DeJuan Blair
C: Robert Parrish
Lawson, McCloud and Blair were all together on Yawn’s best teams in the early 3020s. Greg Monroe had a brief stint with the Sonics back in 3015, he was the only other player that I considered.
PG: Jeff Hornacek
SG: Len Bias
SF: Ronald Savage
PF: Bryant Reeves
C: Shawn Kemp
3/5 are from Victor’s #ohwow 3030. That big man combo is the weakest of all the teams.
PG: Oscar Robertson
SG: Gary Bossert
SF: Rudy Gay
PF: Jermaine O'Neal
C: Cliff Robinson
Suns have had a ton of talent at PG with John Williamson, Paul Westphal and Oscar Robertson. I put Gay at his true position of Pete Holzman.
PG: Aaron Harrison
SG: John Williamson
SF: Alvan Adams
PF: Shareef Abdur-Rahim
C: Boogie Cousins
Went with 3/5 of the Congrats JHB Thunder since it would be boring to use the starting five of the ThuderMavs dynasty.
PG: Sim Dump
SG: Grant Hill
SF: Rudy Gay
PF: Swen Nater
C: Elvin Hayes
I ignored Grant Hill’s TO problems since he was one of the best scorers in the league for 4-5 year period. I also considered Alvin Robertson, Greg Oden and John Vanbiesbrouck.
PG: Mustafa Shakur
SG: Michael Jordan
SF: Dario Saric
PF: Richard Washington
C: Jahlil Okafor
4.0 has obviously been really rough on the Warriors.
PG: Pail Westpaul
SG: Brain Winter
SF: Leon Douglas
PF: George Johnson
C: Caldwell Jones
Winters, Westphal and Douglas were Tyler’s 1-3 during his championship season in 3001. A few years later Tyler reunited the block brothers from 2Poor’s title teams.
PG: David Thomspon
SG: Rick Barry
SF: Larry Kenon
PF: Catfish
C: Moses Malone
Went with the Mavs starting lineup in 3005, all five made the Hall of Fame. Mavs had some other all-time greats with Elvin Hayes, Adrian Dantley, Cliff Robinson and Khalid Reeves.
