Hello TMBSL! Welcome to Taco's first ever article. Hopefully, I will be doing more in the future but who knows. Life, tanking seasons, and an upset Dumptime get in the way.
Credentials:
Although I am not good at managing a roster, I have shown a propensity of drafting good prospects. I drafted Dario Saric, Eric Gordon, Jim Krebe, and Rowdy Eavenson all at the 7th pick or lower in the draft. That's about it.
Point Guards
1) Terry Porter PG 6'3'' 195 22 C+ B- B C+ C- B
After a very solid Draft Summit, being a profile player, and being a former 2.0 great, I've giving the number one PG slot to Terry Porter. He shot over 50% and had a great TO/assist ratio. Doesn't appear to be dominant but this seems to be a weak PG draft.
2) Spud Webb PG 5'6'' 133 22 C+ B- B B- D A
What's the fucking deal with all these small PGs? Spud had arguably the best Draft Summit for PGs. He racked up points, steals, and blocks (wtf?). The only thing keeping him out of the top spot are his measureables.
3) Sam Vincent PG 6'2'' 185 22 C+ B B- C+ D+ B
Turnovers for him scare the shit out of me (9 TOs in two games) but shot a lot a serviceable clip and got steals. Being a profile player and having decent size made me give him the nod over Scott Howard.
4a) Scott Howard PG 5'4'' 140 19 B- C+ B- B- C- A
Grades are great. Size is not. Not playing in the Summit also scares me. Being a werewolf at night also scares me.
4b) Michael Adams PG 5'10'' 162 22 C+ B- B- B D+ B
Played okay at the Summit. Soup says in his profile he's a bust. Dump likes him. I don't particularly like his grades but I have been told he was great in 2.0. He's just meh for me.
Wings
1) Xavier McDaniel SF/PF 6'7'' 205 22 B+ C- D+ B- A- B
He's in wings because he will be a wing if a GM knows what the hell he's doing. He fucking tore it up at the Summit while averaging a line of 24/16.5/2.5/1/1.5. TOs could be an issue considering he averaged 3TOs/game but those rebounding numbers as a SF make me horny. As long as the TOs come down, he should be great.
2) Chris Mullin SF 6'6'' 200 22 B- B C+ B- C B
Mullin comes in at #2 in the wings because he scored at high volume and was incredibly efficient (56% at the Summit!!). Defense and rebounding seem to be lacking but hopefully a GM pumps some points into those.
3) Joe Dumars SG 6'3'' 190 22 B- B C+ B- C- B
Dumars could easily be the #2 taken because his rebounding numbers and steals are significantly better than Mullin's. He wasn't nearly as efficient as Mullin but I would think his "floor" as a draft pick is pretty high. He was also a stud in 2.0 apparently.
4a) Mario Elie SG 6'5'' 210 22 C+ B C C+ C- B
4b) Detlef Schrempf SF 6'9'' 214 22 B- B- C+ C+ B- A
4c) Steve Harris SG 6'5'' 195 22 C+ B C B- C- B
These last 3 all had their ups and downs at the Summit. My gut says that Mario Elie is the worst of these 3 but it could go either way. My gut says Schrempf will be the best when it is all said and done.
Bigs
1) Karl Malone PF 6'9'' 250 22 B+ C- C- B- B A
This one was really tough but I opted for elite efficiency and scoring over a well rounded player + defense. Malone average 35+ ppg at the Summit and grabbed around 10rpg on 58% from the field. He got to the FT line a good amount of times. His defense definitely looks to be lacking but that never stopped Peyton Manning from being great.
2) Patrick Ewing C 7'0'' 240 23 B C- D A- B A
Can't go wrong with this big man. Appears to fill the stat sheet every single night. Only problem could be his efficiency but I expect him to be a badass, two-way big man for the extent of his career. Although efficiency does scare me, he could be a better pick for someone looking to tank for a couple more years. Once that efficiency catches up, he could be unreal.
3) Wayman Tisdale PF 6'9'' 240 22 A- C D B- B B
This dude got a bump in his grades and it appears that it was deserved. He played really well at the Summit and grabbed a bunch of boards in less minutes than most (27reb in 58min). His efficiency could be better and I wish I saw some blocks but I think he's gonna be solid.
4a) AC Green PF 6'9'' 220 22 B C D+ C+ B A
4b) Joe Koncak C 7'0'' 250 22 B C- D B B C
4c) Benoit Benjamin C 7'0'' 250 22 B C D+ A- A- B
I liked some things about all these players and they could all probably be drafted earlier or later and no one would blink an eye. Green grabbed a lot of rebounds and didn't shoot a lot. Jon Koncak grabbed boards, played defense, was efficient, but his grades and potential are blah so he's probably reached his potential. Benoit Benjamin was a blocking machine and grabbed boards, but was NOT efficient and turned the ball over a bunch.
