Start out by telling us a little about yourself.
Where are you from? Currently I'm in Birmingham, AL. I graduated from UAB and I've been here ever since. Love the city, I'll probably never leave it. Before this and until I was 9, my family lived in northwest Indiana and we were about 45 minutes from Chicago. Most of my family are still up there.
Favorite teams?
Chicago Cubs & Alabama Football. I'm a big time baseball fan and I've been a Cubs fan forever. Things are finally looking good for us. 3rd grade was my first year in Alabama and during Iron Bowl week my teacher asked me if I was an Alabama fan or an Auburn fan. I didn't know what the hell an Auburn was & the color orange is disgusting so I told her I was an Alabama fan. At the time I didn't know I was picking the life of a champion but sometimes you just get lucky, I guess.
Likes, dislikes etc. who brought you in?
I went to high school with Odin and he has been one of my best friends since then. Thanks to him, I've watched the Office all the way through about 90 times. Best sitcom ever. I like playing poker a lot and I've been taking an annual gambling trip every year since I was old enough to go to the casino. I've discovered that I date too many blondes. And I'm a boob guy(as opposed to ass, obvz). About 75% of the time, I would rather stay in than go out on my off nights. Oh by the way, I have a dying fantasy baseball league that desperately needs active owners if anyone is interested.
We just finished the season, what are your thoughts on the first go around. Any idea what the direction of your team will be over the next 2-3 years?
It is addictive. I love it. I am looking forward to learning how things go in the off-season. If I had to guess, I'd say that you will see me try to dismantle this team and build my own with picks and trades. I haven't quite convinced myself though and I'll be looking to see if I could get an elite SG in free agency.
First impressions are key. Who is your top 5 GMs so far?? Bottom 5 so far??
No clue. I'd probably put myself in the bottom five, though. I noticed the Thunder had like 4 championships in a row or something ridiculous like that. That dude seems pretty good.
Whats been the hardest thing to pick so far in the league? Easiest?
I haven't done much yet. Odin has been giving me some pretty good tips about a winning lineup. "Everything is about the blocks, man." I think the most difficult part will be figuring out which contracts count against the soft cap vs the hard cap. Or maybe it is really simple, I donno. I'm real happy about trading for Benjamin though. I think he's gonna good.
Now some questions to get to know you…..
What was your best sporting event experience?
It was the weekend after my 21st birthday. Flew to Chicago and watched the Cubs play in Wrigley. I decided that I had to get one of my first legal beers there. Sunday game. Sat in a seat that was pretty close to the Bartman area, right up next to the field. It's pretty refreshing to be surrounded by fellow Cubs fans. Everyone around was friendly and fun. Cubs won 6-3. By the end, I was just drunk enough to join everyone and sing the "GO CUBS GO" song at the top of my lungs. There's nothing like watching a win at Wrigley.
What are your top 5 drinks of choice?
I'm a beer guy, for the most part. We have some really good craft beers made around here. Good people pale ale is probably my favorite. I'd drink any pale ale though. If I'm not drinking beer, I'd drink a whiskey and Sprite or a rum and Sprite. And if we are talking straight soda, lemme get a Coke.
If your entire life was a movie, what title would best fit?
Terrible Life Choices: The Andrew Avery Story.
If you could have personally witnessed anything, what would it be?
The creation of Facebook. I want in on that Facebook money. However, if I can pick a future event, I'd say the Game 6 World Series clinching victory in Wrigley this year.
Where is the weirdest place you have seen someone you know?
Las Vegas, at the Carrot Top show. It wasn't random. We went there together. I just never thought I'd ever be watching Carrot Top willingly. Plus, I've never seen anyone in a weird place, unless you count Walmart as weird.
What would you do if you were invisible for a day?
I'd probably just try to convince Logan and Clark that I've turned into a ghost.
What is your go to pick-up line?
"Hello, attractive white girl."... 60 percent of the time, it works every time.
