Hello TMBSL! This is Taco's first Free Agency Big Board. I felt the need to do this because 1. I am very interested in this FA cycle and 2. I feel like the new GMs don't get enough help/tips with Free Agency. In addition, I wanted to do a little different style than other Free Agency reports to add in some things that I believe are important for GMs to make the best decisions with their FA bids. The format will be a "top 15 players" rather than broken down by position. All stats are rounded up to make life easier. Please critique as you feel necessary. I will make edits to it for any egregious exclusions or mistakes.
DISCLAIMER: This Free Agency Report was done BEFORE resignings/retirings happened. These rankings will obviously change if the better players are resigned by their current teams or retire. I have no power over that.
3039 Free Agency Report
1. Gilbert Arenas PG 6'3'' 191 23 B A- A- A- C B
Stats: 31/6/11 plus 1.4spg and 1.9to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
I think it goes without saying that Arenas is the best player in the FA cycle. Point guards are the most important player in TMBSL and Arenas is the cream of the crop. His "cost" will be the lowest and he's only 23 with B potential. There's a decent chance he even gets better.
Anticipated years and salary: Max / max
2. Jesse Epstein PG 6'2'' 180 27 B B+ B A- C D
Stats: 26/5/9 plus 2.6spg, 1bpg, and 2.9to/game
Current Salary: 5.7 million
Once again, PGs are the most important position on a sim league team and Jesse is a great one. He is older than Arenas, has worse grades, and has a TO issue; however, he is only 27, very efficient, and is a dominant defensive PG. How in the world did Trofie get him for 5 mil/yr? I feel like someone will try to steal him for less than the max.
Anticipated years and salary: 6yrs / 14mil
3. Zach Randolph C 6'9'' 275 23 B+ C C B A C
Stats: 22/12/2 plus .7spg, 2.1bpg, and 1to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
Z-Bo is checking in as the best big available in 3039. He's above average in about every single category and is also an efficient big. I love the fact that he has a low turnover ratio as well. A part of me wishes that he blocked a couple more shots but the rebounding and efficiency make him a great big to have on your team.
Anticipated years and salary: Max / max
4. Joe Silvestri PG 6'3'' 190 32 C+ A A+ A- D+ D
Stats: 28/4/11 plus 2spg and 1.5to/game
Current Salary: Max contract
Sim Dump is still probably a top 3 PG in the game. He's getting up there in years and his scoring is slightly down but Taco still believes he's dominant. Should be very interesting what the offers are for him because his contract is gonna be REAL expensive if its a max. Taco's advice: don't offer a max unless its short on years.
Anticipated years and salary: 3 years / 15 mil
5. Eddy Curry C 7'1'' 305 22 B+ C- D A- A- B
Stats: 21/1/12 plus .5spg, 1.5bpg, and 1.1to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
Curry is basically a poor man's Z-Bo. He isn't as efficient and doesn't block as many shots. With that having been said, he is still a B potential and very young. Also, his size is much better than Z-Bo. Either way, I can see a GM sliding in here and getting Curry on a good deal.
Anticipated years and salary: 4yrs / 10mil
6. Kwame Brown C 7'0'' 270 22 A- C- D A- B A
Stats: 16/1/10 plus 2.8bpg and 1.1to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
This is where the FAs really drop off from superstars to average players that could be a difference maker at a lower salary. Kwame is a solid big man but his efficiency is heading in the wrong direction. He gets a decent number of boards and blocks but its not elite at all. The A potential is what saves him. If you put him on max years then you may have an above average big man by the end of it.
Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 9mil
7. Victor Oladipo SG 6'4'' 228 28 B+ B+ C+ B+ C D
Stats: 14/4/2 plus 1spg, 1bpg, and 1to/game (on 21 minutes)
Current Salary: 8.2 mil
Oladipo has pretty good numbers for being a back up and I think he has the potential to be a starter in the league. Who knows if he will ever be used that way? He is only 28 but that D potential is worrisome. I wouldn't give him a bunch of years but he's got potential to be a steal for a smart GM.
Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8mil
8. Mike Woodson SG 6'5'' 200 31 B- A- C+ B- C- D
Stats: 20/5/3 plus 1.9 spg and 1.4to/game
Current Salary: 6mil
He's a solid starter for the Blazers right now and I think people will take notice. 6 mil is a pretty good deal as it is right now but I can see a GM paying him a little more to steal him away from Majic. The only reason he's behind Oladipo is that he's 31.
Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8mil
9. Lamar Odom SF 6'10'' 220 30 B+ A- B- A B- B
Stats: 18/7/3 plus 1.3bpg, .8spg, and 1.2to/game
Current Salary: Max
Odom is a very solid player that does a little bit of everything. He's got great size and efficiency for the SF position but he's absolutely not worth a max contract. He has the potential to be a good contributor/starter for a championship team. At the age of 30, I love the B potential.
Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 10mil
10. Wang Zhi-Zhi C 7'0'' 255 32 C+ C C B B+ C
Stats: 4/12/2 plus 3.5bpg, .8spg, and 1to/game
Current Salary: 1.2mil (LLE)
Wang may need to be higher on this list. He's a perfect defensive/rebounding big and Ank getting him on this contract was absolutely crazy. The only downside to Wang is that he's 32 so who knows when his performance starts to dip. I still expect someone to take a chance.
Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8.5mil
11. Darran Tillis C 6'11'' 225 27 C D+ C- A- B+ C
Stats: 5/12/1 plus 2.9bpg, 1.4spg, and 1.3to/game
Current Salary: 650k
Tillis is another solid defensive and rebounding big on a fantastic contract. Wang and Tillis are basically a toss up except that Wang is a little older and shoots less. If a GM can get him locked in for 650k/yr, they should throw themselves a party.
Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 7mil
12. Eddie Griffin C 6'10'' 220 22 B+ C+ D A- B+ C
Stats: 6/11/1 plus 3.3bpg, .5spg, and 1.3to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
Eddie is very similar to Tillis and Wang except he's only 22. Also, his efficiency is a little scary and his potential is already C. Definitely a good guy to have on your team for a certain price.....but I would rather have Tillis or Wang.
Anticipated years and salary: 6yrs / 4mil
13. Sandor Clegane SF 6'10'' 250 33 B+ B+ C A- C+ D
Stats: 11/4/1 plus .7spg and .7to/game (on 17 minutes)
Current Salary: Max
I think this legend still has some gas in the tank could be a steal for a MLE or even lower. His numbers have dropped at little bit in his 30s (Sandor is currently 33) but I think he can be very useful at significantly less than a max deal.
Anticipated years and salary: 1yr / 4.5mil (MLE)
14. CJ McCollum SG 6'4'' 200 29 B B+ C+ B+ C C
Stats: 9/3/1 plus .7spg and .5to/game (on 17 minutes)
Current Salary: 7.8 mil
McCollum has shown he can average 24+ ppg and 1.5+ spg over the course of the season, which makes him pretty valuable. His current salary isn't a nightmare either. I feel like a nice 3-4 year deal for him around 5 mil/yr would be a great deal for a gm.
Anticipated years and salary: 4yrs / 5mil
15. Tanner Cousy SG 6'11'' 227 31 B+ A- B- B C C
Stats: 14/5/2 plus 1.5bpg, 1spg, and 1.6to/game (on 23 minutes)
Current Salary: 4.6mil
Cousy is getting up there in age but I still think he is a valuable asset. He plays defense and shoots the ball with solid efficiency. He is now 31 but doesn't appear to be playing worse. Really solid back up for your SG/SF positions if you need it.
Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 3.5 mil
