whatever dump bucks I earn from this I am trading to Taco. thank you and enjoy
Hello TMBSL GMs, welcome to the newly created Free Agency retrospective. As many of you know Taco took it upon himself to create a Free Agency Report with the 15 best Free Agents expected to hit the market. He then also chose to take a guess at what those expected players would fetch on the open market.
I am here today to look back at those picks and see how close he was to the actual contracts.
1. Gilbert Arenas PG 6'3'' 191 23 B A- A- A- C B
Stats: 31/6/11 plus 1.4spg and 1.9to/game
Last Contract Salary: Rookie contract
Taco's Anticipated years and salary: Max / max
What he got – Trailblazers PG Gilbert Arenas resigns for $93,750,000 over 6 years
This was spot on for Taco, although it’s not hard to predict the reigning MVP would get a max. The likely surprise was the offer to resign, Portland’s GM was happy to resign.
2. Jesse Epstein PG 6'2'' 180 27 B B+ B A- C D
Last Contract Salary: 5.7 million
Taco's Anticipated years and salary: 6yrs / 14mil
What he got – Bucks PG Jesse Epstein resigns for $17,277,404 over 3 years
This is another sweet heart deal that Jesse offered to resign on. The amount of money he has passed up in his career is staggering. Passed up max money time and again and this resign was no different. Its hard to know for sure what Jesse fetches on the open market, but I would tend to think Taco was in the ballpark with 14 million per. Too bad we will never find out
3. Zach Randolph C 6'9'' 275 23 B+ C C B A C
Stats: 22/12/2 plus .7spg, 2.1bpg, and 1to/game
Last Contract Salary: Rookie contract
Taco'sAnticipated years and salary: Max / max
What he got - Raptors C Zach Randolph resigns for $83,029,950 over 6 years
This was another big letdown for all the GM's with cap space as the 3rd best potential Free Agent resigns on a solid deal. Here is another one that passed up max money, although its nowhere near the sweet heart deal that Jesse took. Raptors were quick to accept this and lock up one of the better big men in the league
4. Joe Silvestri PG 6'3'' 190 32 C+ A A+ A- D+ D
Stats: 28/4/11 plus 2spg and 1.5to/game
Last Contract Salary: Max contract
Taco's Anticipated years and salary: 3 years / 15 mil
What he got - Timberwolves Sign PG Joe Silvestri for $12,000,000 over one year
This was a surprise to many given the low amount that Joe signed for. Alot of GM's had a shot at him but the winning bid was 1 year at 12 million? Seems low for a past MVP with still alot left in the tank. Then you consider he was immediately flipped to the Bullets to play SG and this is even crazier. Taco overestimated the market for SL Dump which is still surprising given what he got.
5. Eddy Curry C 7'1'' 305 22 B+ C- D A- A- B
Stats: 21/1/12 plus .5spg, 1.5bpg, and 1.1to/game
Current Salary: Rookie contract
Taco's Anticipated years and salary: 4yrs / 10mil
What he got - Thunder Sign C Eddy Curry for $4,500,000 over one year.
This was the first big miss by Taco as there was no market for Curry. MLE on a player that at one time was thought to be a great value in the draft seems worth it. Never bad to take a flyer on a guy like this. Let’s see if the Thunder can make him a reclamation project.
6. Kwame Brown C 7'0'' 270 22 A- C- D A- B A
Stats: 16/1/10 plus 2.8bpg and 1.1to/game
Last Contract Salary: Rookie contract
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 9mil
What he got - Bulls C Kwame Brown resigns for $55,087,500 over 5 years
This seems like a fair deal for a decent player. Taco was pretty close on his prediction for this one as he was only off by around 2 million per, but he had the years spot on. Seemed like an easy resign for the Bulls. Solid all around on this one
7. Victor Oladipo SG 6'4'' 228 28 B+ B+ C+ B+ C D
Stats: 14/4/2 plus 1spg, 1bpg, and 1to/game (on 21 minutes)
Last Contract Salary: 8.2 mil
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8mil
What he got - Nets Sign SG Victor Oladipo for $15,000,000 over one year
This was a player that was highly debated in terms of value and how much Heebs was downplaying his skills. Obviously Taco was way off on his prediction, but given the fact Heebs may have overpaid on a 1 year contract its hard to get a true read on this one. I would bet that the 3yrs/8 Million is more likely his worth, but we shall wait another year to find out.
8. Mike Woodson SG 6'5'' 200 31 B- A- C+ B- C- D
Stats: 20/5/3 plus 1.9 spg and 1.4to/game
Last Contract Salary: 6mil
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8mil
What he got - Trailblazers Sign SG Mike Woodson for $21,000,000 over 2 years
This admittedly is a likely overpay for, however Portland had the room to sign him and no other realistic alternative. Its hard to say who else might have offered, or what he would have signed for. Its likely Taco was correct at around 8 million per but the Blazers weren’t willing to risk it.
9. Lamar Odom SF 6'10'' 220 30 B+ A- B- A B- B
Stats: 18/7/3 plus 1.3bpg, .8spg, and 1.2to/game
Last Contrect Salary: Max
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 10mil
What he got - Suns Sign SF Lamar Odom for $15,000,000 over 3 years.
Taco greatly overestimated the market for Odom. A very good player on a great contract. Ank got great value on this one. Makes you wonder why there was such a small market for a proven player. Can’t fault Taco for expecting bigger offers to come.
10. Wang Zhi-Zhi C 7'0'' 255 32 C+ C C B B+ C
Stats: 4/12/2 plus 3.5bpg, .8spg, and 1to/game
Last Contract Salary: 1.2mil (LLE)
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 8.5mil
What he got – Suns sign C Wang Zhi-Zhi 2 years 2.8 mil
Another total over value by Taco as Wang signs for very little. Seems like a great deal for a good defensive/rebounding big. A lot worse contracts out there for players that are far worse than Wang. Another good value pickup by Ank.
11. Darran Tillis C 6'11'' 225 27 C D+ C- A- B+ C
Stats: 5/12/1 plus 2.9bpg, 1.4spg, and 1.3to/game
Last Contract Salary: 650k
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 5yrs / 7mil
What he got – Timberwolves C Darran Tillis resigns for $715,850 over 1 years
Taco was way off on this, although given he offered to resign it’s hard to say what he gets on the open market. To make matters worse, he was traded along with Sim Dump to the Bullets for 2 firsts. Seems like a huge underpay especially give the contract.
12. Eddie Griffin C 6'10'' 220 22 B+ C+ D A- B+ C
Stats: 6/11/1 plus 3.3bpg, .5spg, and 1.3to/game
Last Contract Salary: Rookie contract
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 6yrs / 4mil
What he got – SuperSonics Sign C Eddie Griffin for $35,000,000 over 5 years
Another one where Taco was very close to getting it right. Right amount of year and per year amount. Not much to dislike here. Solid big to help the rebuilding Supersonics.
13. Sandor Clegane SF 6'10'' 250 33 B+ B+ C A- C+ D
Stats: 11/4/1 plus .7spg and .7to/game (on 17 minutes)
Lat Contract Salary: Max
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 1yr / 4.5mil (MLE)
What he got - Celtics Sign SF Sandor Clegane for $15,000,000 over one year
Taco was exactly on with this guess, and rightfully so as this makes the most sense. Older player that may still have something left, worst part about this deal is he went to the Celtics. It’s a damn shame.
14. CJ McCollum SG 6'4'' 200 29 B B+ C+ B+ C C
Stats: 9/3/1 plus .7spg and .5to/game (on 17 minutes)
Current Salary: 7.8 mil
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 4yrs / 5mil
Raptors Sign SG CJ McCollum for $4,000,000 over 2 years
This is another lower contract for a useable player. Not a big market for him as it took until Day 5 of Free Agency for him to resign with the Raptors on this low contract. Wasn’t use much last year so it seems this provides depth in case of injury.
15. Tanner Cousy SG 6'11'' 227 31 B+ A- B- B C C
Stats: 14/5/2 plus 1.5bpg, 1spg, and 1.6to/game (on 23 minutes)
Last Contract Salary: 4.6mil
Taco’s Anticipated years and salary: 3yrs / 3.5 mil
What he got – Celtics sign SG Tanner Cousy for $4,500,000 over one year
Taco was close but Dump got him on a MLE. Solid value for a guy that can help. But again, damn shame he went to the Celtics.
Well there you have it. Feel free to share your thoughts on some of these contracts and any others that might have been given out.
