Strengths:
An extremely unique talent, combining power forward size and strength, with point guard vision and passing skills. Simmons has the size, physical gifts and skill to play and defend multiple positions at the next level. He has excellent quickness and good strength for a player his size. He has the ability to get into the lane at will and finish through contact at a high level due to his athleticism and soft touch around the rim with either hand. Simmons’ most impressive traits are his tremendous ball-handling and passing ability, as he has outstanding court vision and knack for finding open teammates with bullet passes. He’s also an elite level rebounder that’s shown the grit and desire to grab every rebound in his area and put in the work on the offensive glass. Simmons ceiling is very high and he could be a franchise player for the team that drafts him in the lottery.
Weaknesses:
Despite being a good scorer, he lacks a reliable jump shot. His form doesn’t have any glaring mechanical flaws, but it’s apparent that he isn’t completely confident shooting from outside the paint. Defensively, he has the athletic tools to be a good defender and put up some impressive steals and blocks numbers during his one year at LSU, but he rarely plays up to his potential on that end of the floor. Simmons often looked lazy closing out on shooters and avoided physicality down low.
