Strengths:
Complete player that can do a little bit of everything to impact games. Valentine has off the charts intelligence and intangibles. Passing is his best attribute; he has a tremendous feel for the game and great court vision. He was able to put up point guard like assist numbers during his career at Michigan State. He developed into a very good outside shooter in both catch and shoot and off the dribble situations. He’s big and strong enough to exploit smaller guards in the post. Valentine is a good team defender that is adept at defending in passing lanes. He does a good on the glass, he can begin the fast break and initiate offense after pulling down a defensive rebound.
Weaknesses:
He doesn’t have good quickness or athleticism for a pro wing, it’s uncertain how well his game will translate. His lack of lateral quickness makes it easy for his man to beat him off the dribble. He’s already 22 years old so it’s possible he has reached his potential in terms of development.
