Strengths:
Standing at 6’6, Ball has great size for a point guard. He’s able to see over the defense and make passes that smaller guards can’t. He has a good handle, impressive vision and is very unselfish. He’ll often rack up assists in creative fashion. As a scorer, he has a funky looking shooting stroke, but is effective. He can hit pull up jumpers and shoots a good percentage when he goes to the free throw line. Ball really excels as a playmaker on the defensive end, he's quite rangy for a point guard, anticipates in passing lanes and digs off the ball. He’s able to alter shots in help and recovery defense. His athletic tools and instincts make him an elite rebounder for a point guard. Weaknesses:
There are questions on how good of a scorer he can be, since he isn’t incredibly quick and has average slashing ability in the half court. The unorthodox mechanics on his jump shot may hurt his potential to develop consistent three-point range. |

Cant be giving out A- handling with A potential. Shit not even CP3 got that.

These grades are TOO good Cant be giving out A- handling with A potential. Shit not even CP3 got that. Small sample size but he's averaging 9.3 assists a game. That A- is pretty worthless since he will likely have really high passing. I have no problem lowering his grades though. |

I would have kept it at C+ he can score really well inside when he wants but he is just pass first guy. In real life his funky shot is going to effect his ability to be a great shooter because it takes so long, especially catching and shooting.

Fason is using a number of factors to decide how to award grades, including college stats, pro potential, and pro performance. In this case, we're talking about a player (and really, an entire draft class) that has limited information in the first two categories and zero information in the last category. He's also responsible for making sure the grades aren't overinflated or imbalanced. They may not always match what you think they should match, but there isn't a formula that determines what a guy should be graded based on what he's put up after 9 games of college ball. |
