Much like the last election, this free agency is a battle of good versus evil. There is no denying the greatness of Tyronn Lue. We all know his hometown is the Los Angeles Lakers. Either goodness prevails and he offers to resign with the Nets, or he will almost certainly agree to a max deal with the Lakers. This could be like the Dumptics Dynasty on steroids. Can 4.0 survive an Ian Dynasty?
After Lue comes the obvious choice of Rashard Lewis. His combination of scoring, rebounding, and defense (read: blocking) make him a no brainer #2 this year. Then we get into a coin flip between Vince, whose grades don’t quite match his production (yet, he still had A potential), and White Chocolate, who has had quite an impressive growth through his rookie contract. Coming in a distant fifth, as a favor to our friends at the Rookie Ladder to save their face from crowning him too early, we have Dirk “LOL not the best rookie” Nowitzki. Seriously, how bad was that?

We’re in a valley of quality offensive big men. There are a handful, but nearly every team in the league now has at least one defense/rebounding only big starting. This list is exemplifies that reality. At the top we have Dirk, who is the best FA big man by a wide margin. After that, Embiid is an outstanding option that hopefully sticks around the league for another year or two. Haywood, with his outstanding blocking and rebounding, has set himself apart from the other defense/rebounding bigs. After that we’ve got Pau, Mikan, and Bankz’s Baby Eddie Griffin – all of which are good big men that would be better if they shot a little less. Then we reach the litany of no-shoot bigs.

The wings this year are decent. But after last year’s class, it is not hard to be decent. Rashard is the cream of the crop, with a full complement of wing skills, including the coveted blocking. Vince has been a Report favorite since we offered a bevy of picks for him as a rookie. Kleiza returns to the Report with another year’s proof that he is, indeed, a legit wing. After that we’ve got a couple of decent looking young players (not max worthy) and some quality shot-blocking, inefficient scoring, veterans.

The top of this class is iconic. We’ve got the future of the point guard position in Tyronn and White Chocolate showing up before the best point guard of the prior generation. Kyrie, who likely will retire and not actually be a free agent, has been the best point guard in the league for a long, long time (shout out to Sim Dump, who was neck and neck for a while there). After is an interesting prospect in Donnie Buther, whose low inside grade is hiding an efficient scoring “no-shoot” point guard. He’s not a point guard prototype, but he could be a decent player picked up on a good long-term contract.
