This article was inspired by Ocho . He made a comment why all of the Western Conference GM's were such braggarts about their conference much like SEC fans. Some of these comparisons fit very well and others were a stretch. In addition, all of the pictures are from our posts, is there anyway that we can get all of them at a standard size?
- Bama
Soup's team is the most similar to the Alabama Crimson Tide due to their prolonged run at the top. In addition, Soup is known to rustle the jimmies of conference foes with his success and has a rivalry with a GM in close proximity in Dirt. The Mavericks can always be counted on to be in the hunt for a Western Conference crown as rarely do they have to tank due to excellent bagmen and learning from the Albert Means experience.
- Texas A&M
The Nuggets are the Western Conference's best example of new money, just like the Aggies who came storming into the SEC in 2012. The Aggies and Nuggets haven't won anything yet but they are both the hot new team that has had a ton of success in the offseason recruiting new talent. The future is bright for both of these teams. (This is called pandering to Dump)
- UGA
UGA and Dil's Rockets show many similarities always well respected but their results on the field of play are somewhat a disappointment. Dil has put together some wonderful teams in his time as a GM and widely respected by most GMs. The Rockets always seem to be in the playoffs and they do well but haven't been able to hang a banner yet. That being said you can always count on the Rockets and UGA to be a contender more years then being a doormat.
- Kentucky
With 20s in town the Kings have a new name and a new direction. This is just like the Kentucky football program who will shell out a lot of money for a change in direction and new hope. The people of KC and Omaha are happy with the new GMs feistiness and his vision. However, they have seen this story many times before only to be heartbroken when it doesn't work out. The roster is a mess but with time the Kings may be a player in the conference.
- Tennessee
The Simberwolves and Tennessee share a common theme of reviling in past successes. Tennessee's excellent run as a program in the 90s was similar to that of the Timberwolves of 2.0. Since then both programs have had some good years and very bad years, but most of the time has been spent trying to figure out how to become dominate again. Each program has the tools to be a Conference Title contender but each has been missing a few pieces as of late to make that a reality.
- South Carolina
This was the easiest comparison as both are the preseason champs and ultimate shit talkers but have yet to win anything meaningful in our lifetimes. The Thunder's payroll rivals that the Gamecocks' football recruiting budget (I am looking at you Marcus Lattimore's church). All in all, JHB and the OBC are great for conference rivalries and keeping things interesting.
- LSU
LSU and the Jazz go toe to toe with all conference rivals and are generally very good year in and year out. If the Jazz can win the Conference much like LSU they do an excellent job in representing the Conference in the title game. Also they share similarities with recruiting and the offseason getting harder for them due to TX kids staying at home and the Nuggets offering Brownies. That being said I expect both programs to still be major factors in the conference for the foreseeable future as their leaders are very wily.
- Vandy
GM Druce and the Commodores take their profession and studies very seriously and sometime that has an adverse affect on their play on the field. However, as of late there has been a new dedication to their programs and things look to be going up in the near future. They may not wheel and deal like the conference opponents but they each have a solid plan of how to be successful in their own elegant manner.
- Mississippi St.
Occasionally these two programs find something to get excited about, but in general they are looking up from the bottom of the standings. Both programs haven't been able to duplicate the successes they had when Jackie Sherill/Clown were at the helm over a decade ago. Their fans are a bit inbred but they make for a nice team to have in the conference for some token wins.
- Florida
As a long time pacific GM, Buster nearly always waltzed his way to a division crown due to the easier schedule of the Pacific. That being said when he came up against the big boys of the Midwest or a contender in the Pacific his team still did pretty well. This is very similar to Florida who was the dominate team in the SEC East for many years who only had occasional challenge from a division foe. With the 3.0 set up, Buster and Florida no longer have as easy of a road as they once did. Yet, both programs are a threat to win the conference crown each year as long as they don't schedule Georgia Southern.
- Auburn
The close proximity to their hated rival and they constant wheeling and dealing that would make Trooper Taylor blush, War Eagle is Lob City. Both teams have their ups and downs but when it comes time to get talent into the program there are very few better. This dedication to acquiring talent has made both programs a formidable conference foe and legitimate title contenders.
- Mizzou
You never really know what you are going to get with either of these programs. Some years they are near the top of the conference and other years they are near the bottom with very little in between. GM Ankly firmly believes that his team should be contending for a title or the #1 pick, as a wise GM should. While it doesn't work this way in CFB, Gary Pinkel believes in being a national contender once every 4 years and will take some lean years in the middle presumably building up depth for the title run.
- Arkansas
The Razorbacks and the Blazers are two teams that quietly sneak up on the competition and put together some very solid years. When they can get some homegrown talent and build around that, these teams are some of the best in the league and are title contenders. However, during lean years they fall off the radar a bit as their ability to get top level talent into their programs isn't as good as some of their conference foes.
- Ole Miss
It seems that both of these programs' best years are behind them with past glories reminding them would could be. Every few years these teams sneak up on conference foes and end up in the top portion of the conference standings, but usually they are right in the middle. Both have likable leaders who can find talent, but the teams never seem to put it all together.
