day 120.
1. Ben Simmons - LR #1FG% dipped all year, but didn't go as far down as I thought it would, he's still a good efficiency guy. Not great, but good. His secondary skills all need work: blocking, rebounding, and handling are all question marks. But he's got the size, and you can't teach that. I expect him to take a step back scoring next year, but if he can shore up the other areas he's got star potential.
.
2. Buddy Hield - LR #2The rest of the class is pretty boring. Lots of guys with decent scoring and not much else to speak of, and in that crop Buddy was the best. He's not close to Ben.
.
3. Isaiah Whitehead - LR #3Again, a decent scorer with glaring issues elsewhere.
.
4. Diamond Stone- LR #4We have a lot of interesting big prospects in this class. Diamond is the only one who's credible on both sides of the ball, some basic TCs and a little love in handling and he'll be a stud.
.
5. Thon Maker- LR #8Thon shoots too much and doesn't d/r enough for average efficiency to be acceptable, and his efficiency was slightly below average this year. It's a problem, but his Jump Shot is squared away and he's not a tragic defender so he's got a shot.
.
6. Ben Awyle - LR #6Didn't break 500, couldn't put him in the top five. Volume too low to be the next Alredick, doesn't defend enough to be the next TVP, but if three point ratio is right about his efficiency he deserves a lot more playing time.
.
7. Kris Dunn - LR unrankedWas dreadful in preseason but put together a pretty decent third of a regular season. Much better handling than Whitehead, could have some very interesting defensive attributes. There's definitely potential, my concern is that his scoring regresses to preseason numbers which are a lot harder to cure than handling.
.
8. Brice Johnson- LR #5Brice continues to get the nod ahead of DSab because he's blocking more shots than Isaiah Whitehead. Is a very good scorer for a big, doesn't have the rebounding but that grows well. The floor is higher though not high enough for him to be playable as is, the ceiling is lower though.
.
9. Domantas Sabonis- LR #7He's great at everything except shot blocking - scoring, rebounding, handling, he's very nearly the total package. It's like a car with an amazing engine, body, transmission, and no #wheels. The path to superstardom is obvious, it's up to the GM and the RNG to make it happen.
.
10. Skoal Labissiere- LR #9Some guys are a master of one trade, some a jack of all trades. Skailoal is about an eight of all trades - below average scorer in volume and efficiency, below average shot blocker, below average rebounder... but he's close enough in all four that he could be decent with average TC luck, and if he hits a home run in any area he starts to get very interesting.
.
rest of lottery
Brandon Ingram - couldn't keep it going after a sensational preseason. the size and d/r are great building blocks, but with outright minus scoring he needs a lot of work
Jamal Murray - like if Ingram was five inches shorter and a much worse defender and rebounder. sorry pete
Jaylen Brown - like if Ingram had the same d/r profile and tried to score exclusively by heading the ball through the hoop
blindfolded
Malik Beasley - wasn't terrible or great. should be at least a serviceable backup
Dragan Bender - Stone's scoring plus Sabonis' defense equals yuck
Denzel Valentine - bad scoring handling and defense. other than that he's okay.
Taurean Prince - same
Wade Baldwin - same
Caris Levert - tied DJ Augustin's Nets record for least free throws missed
