1. Lebron James, F - Kansas City Kings
Starting Grades: A C+ B B+ B A
Current Grades: A B B- A- B+ B
Original Draft Slot: 1.1 (Kings)
Lebron was the obvious 1.1 and is well on his way to be a top 10 player in 4.0. He's a volume scorer with good percentages and elite passing and defense. He has recently moved to PF after spending his first three years at SF and has been destroying everything in his path. It's a really good thing he can never be PG eligibile.
2. Luke Ridnour, PG - Vancouver Grizzlies
Starting Grades: C+ B B C+ D+ B
Current Grades: B- A A- A- C- B
Original Draft Slot: 2.1 (76ers)
This pick is obviously unrealistic. Ridnour has some pretty mediocre grades, the best drew could have realistically hoped for was Bosh here. Luckily for him Melo seemed to ultimately have a bit of trade value and he found a PG elsewhere. Ridnour has been one of the best PGs in the league after taking the job from Theus pretty early in his career. Elite scoring volume, defense, and handles truly set this guy apart.
3. Chris Bosh, C - Minnesota Timberwolves
Starting Grades: B C+ C- B B- A
Current Grades: B+ C+ C- A- A- C
Original Draft Slot: 1.4 (76ers)
Dwyane Wade was originally drafted in this slot, and while I don't think he's a completely useless player (more on that later), Bosh is already one of the best bigs in the league and one of the few worthy of a max. Bosh here instead of Wade would have given Ayyoe a much more balanced team and the Timberwolves could be a real threat with Long and Lillard.
4. Chris Kaman, PF - Philadelphia 76ers
Starting Grades: B C D B B+ B
Current Grades: B c D A- A- C
Original Draft Slot: 1.8 (Hawks)
I'm sure Fason would rather keep Bosh but that's not the reality of the world we live in. Luckily for him, Kaman is also one of the best bigs in the league and probably worthy of a max. The only real difference here is Bosh's outside shot and steals. Kaman is still an extremely good player and honestly a redraft could go much worse.
5. Zaza Pachulia, PF - Denver Nuggets
Starting Grades: C+ C- D B- B- A
Current Grades: B C- D B+ A- A
Original Draft Slot: 1.14 (Lakers)
Another unrealistic pick. Originally this slot belong to TJ Ford, but he truly has Grant Hill turnovers and is just terrible so he's fallen all the way out of the redraft lotto. Great tanking PG but that's not really what you want from a top 10 pick. Not only is Ford bad, but he caused Dirt to pass on Kris Dunn for Jaylen Brown. Zaza isn't a perfect player but he appears to be very good. Efficiency and volume are elite and if he can get his blocks above 3 he may also receive a max. I'm not sure why Ian is keeps saying he's confused about him. Sexually perhaps? Who knows.
6. David West, PF - Chicago Bulls
Starting Grades: B C C- B- B+ B
Current Grades: B+ C C- A- A- C
Original Draft Slot: 1.15 (Jazz)
West is an ok player. Phenomenal efficiency but poor defense and rebounding. A solid third big but not much more. With C potential it doesn't seem like he has much more room to grow but display potential is completely unreliable. Pairing him with Drummond would be pretty interesting.
7. Zarko Cabarkarpa, C - Orlando Magic
Starting Grades: C+ C C- C+ B- A
Current Grades: C+ C D+ A- A- B
Original Draft Slot: 2.4 (Kings)
Zarko is our fifth straight big, and a top flight D/R one at that. Being that Zarko was a 2nd rounder this pick is pretty unrealistic as well but hey, he would look pretty good next to Shaq. Instead he's rotting away on a tanking team.
8. Dwayne Wade, SG - Atlanta Hawks
Starting Grades: B+ C+ C+ B C+ A
Current Grades: B+ B- B- A C+ C
Original Draft Slot: 1.3 (Timberwolves)
Wade doesn't play much these days. He's definitely not a PG, but I think he can be a pretty good SG. It's understandable that he's not a starter over John Long but there's definitely more minutes to be had. If he had been taken here he could potentially be a top option with the Hawks and we could know what he's truly capable of at this point.
9. Darko Milicic, C - Milwaukee Bucks
Starting Grades: B C- D+ B- B- A
Current Grades: B+ C C A- A- A
Original Draft Slot: 1.9 (Bucks)
Another post player. Darko is just your classic D/R big. Nothing flashy here. He was originally drafted at 1.9 and he was redrafted at 1.9. Funny how it works out. Not much to say really.
10. Carmelo Anthony, SF - Utah Jazz
Starting Grades: B+ C+ C C+ B A
Current Grades: B+ B C B A- B
Original Draft Slot: 1.2 (Grizzlies)
Melo obviously wasn't going to fall this far, not that he is a tremendous player these days. He does a few things pretty well but none of those things are particularly important. He can only score but doesn't do so with elite volume or efficiency. There's not a ton of room for players like this in the league.
11. Kirk Hinrich, PG - Miami Heat
Starting Grades: C+ B B- B- C- B
Current Grades: C A- B- B+ C- C
Original Draft Slot: 1.17
Another member of the Wolves that doesn't play much these days because he's behind a star. Hinrich was a Ladder darling but hasn't really been heard from since. I still suspect he's a good player and will probably be overpaid by someone looking for a PG during the next offseason.
12. Mickael Pietrus, SG - New Jersey Nets
Starting Grades: B- C+ C- B- C+ A
Current Grades: B B+ C A- C+ B
Original Draft Slot: 1.12 (Nets)
Much like Milicic, Pietrus was drafted here. He really hasn't produced that much to be honest but at this point you take what you can get. Defense and scoring volume seem ok but efficiency and handling perhaps not. I think he still has some room to grow so we will see what happens.
13. Ndubi Ebi, SG/SF - Atlanta Hawks
Starting Grades: B- C C C+ C+ A
Current Grades: B- C+ C A C+ A
Original Draft Slot: 1.24 (Celtics)
A 6'10" D/R SG, Ebi is mostly unproven. When he has been able to get some minutes he has produced consistent with other very popular D/R wings. He still has A potential so there is only upside here. There's a lot of D/R wings these days but they generally aren't 6'10 and able to play both positions. He'll always suffer from not shooting 3s but I personally don't think that's particularly important for this player type.
