Dil's 3004 FA Preview
imo
Abstract: This FA class is awful. Only two max guys. A few decent 3rd big type guys. The only bright spot is the PG depth. Lots of good ones.
Dil's Big Board
1. David Thompson
2. Robert Parish
3. Nate Williams
4. Al Skinner
5. Foots Walker
6. Campy Russell
7. Bill Robinzine
8. Randy Smith
9. Slick Watts
10. John Lucas
Centers: Very top heavy. One of the better position groups of this FA class.
1. Robert Parish C 7'0'' 245 26 B+ C- C- A A B
- Clearly the number one big man available. Unfortunately Parish lost his A+ defense in TC and he hasn't gotten the A- inside bump yet. He's still a very good player with very good stats. He will most likely be maxed.
2. Elmore Smith C 7'1'' 250 30 B D+ D A B+ C
- Elmore has always been a very solid contributor for GM Dil. He is no change at PF and he consistently outperforms his grades with solid points, rebounds, blocks, and percentages. This offseason could be the last contract he signs as he is on the backside of his career.
3. Tom Burleson C 7'2'' 233 27 B C- D+ A B C
- Burleson seems like he's going to be one of those guys that's on this list every other year. Lots of a short contracts and different teams. He can fit in anywhere and is a very solid 3rd big.
4. Ryan DeBernardi C 7'0'' 256 27 C+ C C A B A
- Another great 3rd big. This guy could even be a solid starter. He makes his free throws, doesn't shoot a ton, and plays good defense. I would love for that rebounding to be higher but he still has A potential so there's hope. This is a guy that you want on a multi-year contract.
5. Randy Denton C 6'10'' 245 30 C+ C- C- B+ B+ B
- I can't believe a player this average is on a top FA list. This isn't even an MLE player. LLE maybe. Probably min. I have nothing to say about Randy Denton.
Power Forwards: A group of 5-7 guys that are all mediocre. No one is clearly better than the others. I can't even rank these guys. Here they are in alphabetical order. I can't give any original commentary on them because they're so similar/average. I'll just provide stats.
Jim Chones PF 6'11'' 220 29 B+ C- C A- B+ C
- 13.9/11/1/0.6 31 MPG 48/80%
Joe Meriweather PF 6'10'' 220 26 B+ C- C B+ B C
- 13.9/9.7/0.6/1.5 | 32 MPG | 45/72% *Last season stats
Mel Bennett PF 6'7'' 215 24 B- B- C A- B B
- 8.7/8/0.7/0.8 | 31 MPG | 48/67% Looks like a SF to me
Mike Green PF 6'10'' 200 28 B C- D+ A B- B
- 8.6/8.4/0.5/2.6 | 29 MPG | 42/69% *
Rich Kelley PF 7'0'' 245 26 C+ C C A- A- C
- 9.6/9.3/1.6/1.6 | 28 MPG | 41/89%
Ron Behagen PF 6'9'' 185 28 B C- C- A- A- C
- 5.6/6.3/0.1/1.7 | 19 MPG | 27/67%
Sidney Wicks PF 6'9'' 225 30 A- D+ C B- B+ C
- 11.2/7.5/0.5/0.7 | 22 MPG | 44/67% *
Small Forwards: Probably the second best group of the class top to bottom. No star player but decent depth.
1. Nate Williams SF 6'4'' 220 29 B- A- C A- C C
- Nate is tearing it up this season on the tanking Raptors squad. He's at nearly 30 PPG which is a huge improvement over his career average (14.8). He'll be 30 by the time FA rolls around so it will be interesting to see what type of contract he gets. Are the numbers he's putting up for real or due to the rest of his team being awful? I know what I think.
2. Campy Russell SF 6'8'' 215 27 B- A- B B C+ C
- Campy had a nice TC that has given him a nice bounce back season after a rough last year. He's at 22 PPG now and his B handles are a great add on. The B defense is his only weakness. If someone could sign him to a multi-year deal and get that defense up to B+ or A- then he could be one of the better SF's in the league.
3. Bill Robinzine SF 6'7'' 230 26 B- B+ C B+ A- A
- Bill had a breakout year last season averaging almost 25/10. Granted it was on a really terrible team. He's still a good player that still has A potential. Much like Campy, if this guy can get a GM to commit to pumping him with points he could be very good.
4. Dudley Bradley SF 6'6'' 195 23 B B C B+ C+ B
- This guy is fresh off of his rookie contract and looks like a pretty good player. If he doubled his minutes to 31 per game he would be averaging 17/9/1.6. He's young and he doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.
5. Mike Bantom SF 6'9'' 200 27 B- B+ C- A- C+ B
- Mike had a really good TC. He's been passed around to different teams quite a bit in 4.0 so far. Can he find a home? His grades have always been much better than his production. I don't like this dude. I had him on my squad last year. Not very good.
Shooting Guards: Welp. Nothing to see here. Srs. Probably the worst FA position group that I can remember.
Fred Brown, Dennis Johnson, and Sonny Parker are the top three. Then there's a big drop off. Yikes.
Point Guards: Here we go. This is by far the best group of this class.
1. David Thompson PG 6'4'' 205 25 A- A B+ A C- A
- Thompson is obviously one of the best players in the league. He's the MVP of soup's team. Definitely a max player. Will he be Durant 2.0?
2. Al Skinner PG 6'3'' 195 27 C+ A A A C C
- Skinner has had a great two years. He was traded to Milwaukee where trofie pumped some vital points into him. Then he was traded to Indiana where he had an excellent TC. He's currently having the best season of his career with the Pacers.
3. Foots Walker PG 6'1'' 172 28 C+ C+ A+ A+ C B
- Foots is an interesting player. He's always outperformed his grades which led people to think he was a mini Sim Boyd II. He had a rough tc that dropped his scoring down but he's currently rolling with career highs in assists and a whopping 3.6 SPG. He's also shooting over 52% FG.
4. Randy Smith PG 6'3'' 180 30 C+ B+ A- A- C D
- Smith had a very hot start to his 4.0 career. He's seen himself dwindle since then but he's still a very solid PG. He's getting to the end of his career so it will be important for his future team to decide how long he can go and offer a contract that bodes well toward that. He's shooting a wonderful 51% FG but somehow only 52% FT.
5. Slick Watts PG 6'1'' 175 28 C+ B- A+ A+ D+ C
- Watts is having the best year of his career but on a tanking team. 16/9/2.3 is right in line with the guys ahead of him on this list but being on the Raptors hurts his cause.
HM: John Lucas PG 6'3'' 185 26 C A A A+ D B
