Two seasons in a row now, I have sent in RT answers to RTs that ended up not being posted. I don't like to work for free. So I've posted the Q&As from both of those RTs below, and then added some questions of my own.
From duc's planned TMBSL/NBA combo RT, answers sent in March 7th, before Sim 1 of the 3045 season.
TMBSL
1. Who would you say at this point is the leagues best player? and would you also pick that player to be your MVP this season?
I think Rashard Lewis is the league's best player. His production and efficiency is just stupid. The way he put the Rockets on his back and dragged them to minutes from the league finals was pretty insane to watch. However, he is not my MVP pick as he does not play Point Guard.
2. Who would you have picked #1 in the 3045 TMBSL Draft, Duncan or McGrady? Who are some other players in the rookie class you are interested in watching after seeing Training Camp?
I would have taken Duncan as he seemed like a can't miss 100% chance lock for all-league status, and my main goal with a high pick is to get a superstar. I mean you're picking that early because you don't have any, or you fleeced another GM. I understand anyone who says they would have taken McGrady though as this is a wing driven league, and he could end up being an HoF level 2 guard, there's just more risk involved in the pick.
3. The Western Conference appears to have a season long battle for the #1 seed and the chance to play in the Finals. Out of the few teams battling for the spot, who would you pick to represent the Western Conference in the finals?
I see no reason not to think the Jazz will do it again. It's essentially the same team as last year, just maybe with better depth if Dunn and West really are developing the way it looks like they might be. Houston is going to come on strong, and SPL is going to do his best to convince everyone his team is garbage, but we all know better.
4. If you had the ability to add 1 sim player to your roster to turn yourself into a championship team, which player would you choose?
I want Tyronn Lue. There's a well-established championship blueprint in this league, and that blueprint is get a superstar PG and a SF who scores efficiently and rebounds and defends hard. I'm halfway there, Lue would give me the other half.
NBA
1. There is a tight battle for MVP, who do you think will win the award? Who do you think should win the award?
I think James Harden is going to win the award. His stats are eye-popping, his team is doing well in the standings, and IMO they're one of the league's bigger surprise stories this year, and narrative matters more than it should in these things. Harden is going to get rewarded for all of that.
Having said that, I think Kawhi Leonard should get the award. He is hands down the most impactful two way player in the league. Looking at the rest of the Spurs roster, I don't understand how this team is as good as it is, especially on the defensive end. Their PGs are Tony Parker and Patty Mills, and Pau Gasol gets the lion's share of their center minutes. Give Kawhi his trophy, and give Pop another COY.
2. Joel Embiid only played 31 games this season but was very impressive in those games. Did he do enough to still win the Rookie of the Year? If not, who do you think should win?
In a normal year where there are multiple productive rookies it probably wouldn't be enough, despite Embiid looking like a league altering talent. The sample size would just be too small to justify it. This isn't a normal year though, the rest of the rookie class is absolute doodoo. How are you going to look your kids in the face a couple years down the road and explain to them that you voted for Dario Saric when Embiid is holding up an MVP trophy?
3. Other than a player on your favorite team, doubt this matters for MJ, who do you enjoy watching play the most?
Maybe this doesn't qualify as enjoyment, but hate-watching Austin Rivers is a very powerful experience for me, and is the main reason I can never turn the Clippers off when they're on TV. Just everything about him bugs the shit out of me. His dumb face, the way he exaggerates all his movements so it looks like he's moving faster and working harder than everyone else on the court, the way he carries himself like he's Kobe Bryant when he's an untalented scrub who is only playing ball on this continent because of who his dad is. Guy sucks and I can't look away.
4. Of all the players on your favorite team, which player do you despise the most every time you see he is about to check-in
Kyle Singler doesn't have a single NBA level skill, probably cuts his own hair, and is signed for another 3 years.
From JHB's 3046 division specific season preview RT, answers sent March 30
Midwest:
Projected Winner:
I think this is probably the league's toughest division this year. A lot of contending teams. To me Houston looks like the cream of the crop though. The perimeter talent makes me want to barf, although Elgin should be slowing down a bit at this point. It's really the only chance the rest of us have.
Tank Commander:
Pretty much by default this one goes to OKC. There is A LOT of young talent here that gbg should be excited about, but for the most part they aren't ready to be contributors. They're gonna get the shit kicked out of them a lot this year, but there's a bright future there.
MVP:
I'm an extremely humble person, so it is hard for me to toot my own horn here, but it's LeBron. Both in the number of ways he helps my team, and how much I need him to suit up to be a winning team. Rashard and Bird might be better than LeBron in a vacuum, but they both have more help, especially on the perimeter than LeBron has.
ROY:
Dajuan Wagner looked pretty feisty in summer league if I remember correctly. Wagner, PF2 (ed. note- thanks a lot gbg you shithead), SV3 all call this division home and could be first team all-rookie players. This division is looking pretty nasty moving forward.
Worst Contract:
Without
A
Doubt
Easily, the answer is Shaq. That contract is massive.
Most Likely Contender to Start Tanking Midseason:
I wouldn't really call them a contender, but Utah is in this weird nether region between tanking and contending right now. If early returns on Dunn don't suggest he's a star in training, I could see SPL getting pretty motivated to sell off the remaining pieces there and tear that thing down to the studs.
Most Consistently Excellent GM:
In his first stint in 4.0, SPL got the hang of sim league quicker than any new GM I can remember. He has continued to improve and now fields pretty good teams pretty consistently, while still finding ways to have draft picks and bring in young guys. He just edges out ward for this award IMO.
1. Give us your playoffs (seeding doesn't matter). Who makes it on both sides and why?
EAST:
1. Boston- still fairly mediocre on the wings, but the bigs and the PGs are fantastic. In what feels like a slightly down east to me, I think Boston could take the regular season crown.
2. Toronto- Arenas by himself gets you into the playoffs. Sam Jones, T-Mac, and Fultz are just there to make Toronto a contender
3. Charlotte- Putting the defending champs, who return everyone and have an even better looking Vince, this low is probably stupid and I'm probably trying to be way to clever by putting Boston at number one. Oh well, I'm not going back and changing it.
4. New Jersey- This is the most boring franchise in the league. Every season herb rolls out of bed with new young players that he has put around Lue and he sleepwalks his way to homecourt advantage in the first round. I don't see any reason that should change this year.
5. Philadelphia- Fason had an offseason topped only by Utah's in the amount of devastation leveled on the franchise. Doesn't matter, the guards and Bosh are still enough to make this team scary. It'll be really fun to see if he can develop Pierce.
6. New York- It's getting awfully creaky on this roster. Jimmy and Butch still bring enough heat to get them into the playoffs though.
7. Miami- Theus is a god. Simmons might be a god. The career arcs of the players on this team don't sync at all, but that doesn't mean they can't make the playoffs
8. Indiana Pacers- apologies to Atlanta. I just believe in these bigs. *coughgetabetterPG*
WEST
1. Houston- It's that old familiar formula, 3 perimeter guys that get lots of buckets and a bunch of bigs who are terrified of the ball. This team is going to coast to 60+ wins
2. Los Angeles Lakers- the Pacific really sucks
3. Minnesota- ayyoe very carefully and painstakingly crafted this roster. jk jk jk he's the new scat. Anyway, this team has perimeter talent better than anyone who isn't Houston.
4. Kansas City- We're going to defend really well, and LeBron is a top 5 player. PG might get dicey.
5. Golden State- It's weird how for a GM whose every move radiates brilliance, taco can't seem to make an actual title contender.
6. Vancouver- This feels like the western team I might be underrating the most. This is basically the same exact team that won 57 games last year. They're getting dinged because I think they had a couple guys really overachieve last year and they are going to come back down to earth a bit.
7. Dallas- welcome back dirt, who did what he does and in the span of 20 minutes built a playoff team out of nothing. I'm very hopeful that dirt stays engaged, because he's one of my favorite GMs to watch work when he's plugged in.
8. San Antonio- Lonzo can't be kept out of the playoffs forever. The frontcourt got a massive upgrade this year. It's time.
2. Project the Finals. Who's playing for a title and who takes it home?
Rockets v Hornets. Basically mirror image teams. Rockets get it done this time.
3. Which rookies are you most intrigued by? Who are you keeping an eye on?
Obviously Juan Dixon. Guy is going to be a star.
Bonus: Post a gif of Odin reacting to live Lotto TC last night.
2Poor originals, brainstormed on April 3rd
1. You are in the minority among TMBSL GMs in that you still regularly post on TMB. Why?
Self-loathing is a big part of why anyone continues to post on TMB, I think. Most sim league GMs don't seem to have much.
2. People are talking about a summit for 5.0 creation draft. What are your thoughts on this?
If it's in Vegas or Dallas I'll do everything I can to get there, otherwise I'd probably skip. The only thing that worries me about a creation summit is that I think it's unrealistic to think we can get every GM to be live for a creation draft, so everyone on site could end up sitting around for a couple hours waiting for a remote GM's pick to come in. That could get pretty old pretty quick, and if it's Buster or devine sitting around bored for hours on end, people could end up in jail.
3. Through 30 days, what team is most confusing to you this season?
Minnesota being 13-10 makes no sense at all. Going into this season I figured ayyoe had accidentally assembled the western 3 seed at worst. Even with Bird's slow start, there's no reason at all to be down this low.
