Who's missed the most threes in NBA history? Ray Allen, who has missed more threes than Steph Curry has attempted.
So that's silly. Let's turn the question around. For a given number of attempts, who has the worst percentage of all time?
00% - 25 - Michael Cage and Zaza Pachulia
02% - 42 - Anderson Varejao - let me tell you something Ernie - he a flopper
06% - 102 - Darrell Walker
13% - 152 - Kelvin Ransey
15% - 186 - Avery Johnson
17% - 464 - Dennis Johnson
22% - 888 - Andre Miller
25% - 945 - Reggie Theus
27% - 2020 - Charles Barkley
30.9% - 3202 - Jerry Stackhouse
31.3% - 3383 - Allen Iverson
31.7% - 3570 - Gary Payton
32.0% - 4159 - Baron Davis
32.5% - 4264 - Antoine Walker
32.9% - 5546 - Kobe Bryant
34.9% - 5852 - Jamal Crawford
38.0% - 5888 - Jason Terry
39.5% - 6486 - Reggie Miller
40.0% - 7429 - Ray Allen
Andre and the Chuckster stand out to me the most. Those other guys are old enough and low volume enough that they were plausibly heaves for the most part. I was also interested to see Kobe right next to noted punchline Antoine Walker. Then the last four are of course the four most attempts of all time, but I like that they're also in percentage order.
The standings are pretty safe too (depending on how long Zaza takes his 0fer). The worst young chuckers going are Michael Carter-Williams at 25% on 479 attempts and Andre Roberson at 26% of 384, I don't think either will get close to Barkley's attempts due to not being in the NBA in five years. Active players with at least 1000 attempts are led by Corey Brewer's 28% of 1619, he won't come close to Stack, then we've got two guys at 2000+ and <32%: Westbrook with 31.3% of 2253, Monta Ellis with 31.4% of 2348. Westbrook has a shot at the Stack/AI/Payton crowd, this being year nine for him my guess rules him out of the 4k club though.
As for ol' Steph, if he takes a step back and attempts 700 threes a year it'll take him five years to supplant Allen, so he'd be in year thirteen. Thirteen years is a lot, but shooters tend to hang around so I think he makes it.
