1. Phoenix Suns - Danny Manning PF 6'10" 240 23 B+ C+ C B- B- B
Rock...whatever the cheer is. There is little doubt in my mind that Ank will let a legendary Kansas team manager assistant coach player like Manning, let alone one that is a clear top 3 player in this draft, slip by him. Manning and Swanigan will be a solid start to the next great Ank dynasty squad.
2. Orlando Magic - Anthony Mason PF 6'7" 250 21 B C+ C C+ B A
MJ takes BPA and snags a player that could end up being very good as a 3 or 4. Mason definitely has the most upside of the elite group at the top of this class, so it will be a perfect fit for a team looking to rebuild completely from the ground up. Mason also provides some versatility in his positioning by being able to play both forward spots so it allows MJ a little more leeway to pursue BPA with his stable of later lotto picks.
3. Memphis Bobcats - Rik Smits C 7'4" 250 22 B+ C D A- B B
With two solid starters on the wing and a good d/r third wing, I believe Odin goes with what looks like another really good two-way big at the top of the draft to follow in the tradition of Duncan and Yao. Not all of them can play in Washington though. Smits is ready to plug and play immediately so if Odin decides to pool his assets and make a move for a PG after this pick, the Central division could be on notice.
4. Oklahoma City Thunder - Dan Majerle SG 6'6" 215 23 B B B- C+ C+ B
In a fitting move, OKC looks to add some desperately needed scoring and select Thunder Dan, the most complete scorer in the draft and a potential top-shelf point guard depending on how his TC's play out.
5. Washington Bullets - Rex Chapman SG 6'4" 185 21 C+ B C+ B- C- A
With the Bullets set down low with Yao and Duncan, KN makes a move to solidify the wing and takes the Chapman. *Insert Rex Chapman being moved by Tuesday joke here*
6. Portland Trailblazers - Nikola Jokic C 6'10" 250 21 B+ C+ C+ C+ C+ A
With a stable of solid perimeter players in Bentil, Svi, Murray, and JAY Williams, Majic looks to add a stretch 4 with tantalizing offensive grades in the hopes that a few good TC's and some SC/RC love will turn Jokic in his force down low to pair with his perimeter squad.
7. Orlando Magic (via Cleveland Cavaliers) - Chris Morris SF 6'8" 210 22 B- C+ C+ B- B- A
With no players currently in tow likely to be on this squad when it's competitive again, MJ has the luxury of going BPA again with all his picks. While Charles Smith has more intriguing size, MJ goes with Morris due to the ability to play both spots on the wing and higher upside. Morris is a player with no holes in his game but will need some work on his scoring to reach his full potential.
8. Utah Jazz - Charles Smith SF 6'10" 230 23 B C+ C- B- B- B
With one of the most promising up-and-coming PGs in the game, SPL looks to rebuild his team around Kris Dunn. Adding some guys who can man the wing will be the focus of the offseason for the Jazz, and Charles Smith is a good way to start. One of the more popular players on the draft board due to his size and ability to play the 3, Smith projects as a potential plus scorer and rebounder with his starting grades.
9. San Antonio Spurs (via Los Angeles Clippers) - Gary Grant PG 6'3" 185 23 B- B B B- C C
With the biggest story of the offseason likely being where Lonzo Ball decides to take his talents, Bruns makes a move to secure his future at the position by taking the most ready-to-play point guard prospect in case of an emergency where Ball leaves for another program.
10. Orlando Magic (via Indiana Pacers) - Rod Strickland PG 6'3" 175 22 B- C+ C+ B C- A
MJ continues to restock the cupboard in Orlando by taking the PG in this class with the highest upside in Rod Strickland. Strickland has the potential to replace what CP3 was doing in Orlando before MJ decided to reload.
11. Chicago Bulls - Mitch Richmond SG 6'5" 215 23 B- B C C C+ A
Lip's Bulls could definitely use an infusion of some perimeter scoring with his rapidly aging perimeter group of Beal and Armstrong. Yes, Beal is 27 but that F potential is ugly and his performance is rapidly declining. Richmond has the best pure scoring grades in the class outside of Thunder Dan so this fits exactly what he needs.
12. Orlando Magic (via Dallas Mavericks) - Derrick Chievous SF 6'7" 195 21 B- B- C+ C+ B- B
MJ uses his final lotto pick to buy some insurance on his earlier wing picks. Chievous is one of the higher rated wing players on the big board and could potentially be a starter-level player. This is a nice backup plan in case Morris or Mason doesn't work out.
13. Brooklyn Nets (via New York Knicks) - Grant Long PF 6'8" 225 20 B- C+ C- C+ B- A
As a big fan and believer in the big board, Heebs takes a non-profile sleeper identified as a top prospect on the Big Board. Long has the potential to turn into a good SF and could be solid insurance in case his developmental project Nik "Greek Sauce" Tsykiviliaksiklililjiliki doesn't work out.
14. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Golden State Warriors) - Brian Shaw PG 6'6" 190 22 C+ B- B+ C+ C+ B
With Phil Ford 2.0 looking a little rough in his first appearances with the Thunder, GBG makes a move for what may end up being the best PG in the class by speculating that Shaw gets the notorious "former IRL coach" bump.
15. Indiana Pacers (via Milwaukee Bucks) - Willie Anderson SG 6'7" 190 21 B- C+ B- B+ C A
Billy is rebuilding from the ground up with his only really promising future asset being OG who is expiring. With that in mind, Billy takes the highest upside guy left on the board and a player who may potentially grow into a 6'7" defensive ace at PG with some TC luck.
16. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Charlotte Hornets) - Fennis Dembo SF 6'5" 215 22 C+ B- C B- B- B
After taking a handful of bigs in the last draft lotto, GBG takes another wing to pair with Thunder Dan and Ebi in the hopes of rebuilding his once proud franchise. Fennis Dembo doesn't have great size but with some work on his scoring (especially inside), he could be a solid contributor.
17. Indiana Pacers (via Kansas City Kings) - Micheal Williams PG 6'2" 175 22 C+ C+ B- B- D+ A
Billy continues his strategy of adding the highest upside players available and takes a young PG whose scoring grades are questionable, but hopefully has a breakout TC.
18. Oklahoma City Thunder (via Boston Celtics) - Tito Horford C 7'1" 245 22 C- C- C+ B+ B B
While GBG did invest a lot of draft capital in big men last offseason, none of his picks really seem to have panned out. With that in mind, the Thunder use this pick to draft what hopefully will be a solid D/R big.
19. Phoenix Suns (via Seattle Supersonics) - Hersey Hawkins SG 6'3" 190 22 B C+ C+ B- C+ B
Ank uses his second first round pick to give Danny Manning some help on the wing. With B C+ grades, Hawkins is likely to develop into a pretty good scorer with any TC luck and he doesn't have any clear flaws looking at his grade set. Solid pickup for the Suns.
20. Milwaukee Bucks (via Vancouver Grizzlies) - Steve Kerr PG 6'3" 190 23 B- B+ C+ C+ D+ C
With Monta Ellis struggling with his turnovers at PG, and his team constantly on the cusp of making noise in the playoff picture in the East, Duc takes a chance on Steve Kerr and his potentially prolific B- B+ scoring grades.
21. Atlanta Hawks - David Rivers PG 6'0" 170 23 C B B- B- C- B
Dear god, anyone but Cornell Green.
22. Houston Rockets - Will Perdue C 7'0" 240 23 C C- C- B+ B B
With Charlie Tyra and Loren Woods turning 35 next season, Ward makes a move to infuse some youth into his rotation of D/R bigs.
23. Phoenix Suns (via New Jersey Nets) - Vinny Del Negro SG 6'4" 185 22 C+ B C+ C+ C- B
Ank seems like the type of guy to speculate that Del Negro would get that aforementioned "coach's bump" and Vinny has some of the more interesting scoring grades left out of the field of remaining prospects.
24. Miami Heat - Rolando Ferreira C 7'1" 240 24 B- C D+ B C+ C
With solid but unspectacular grades, Canes takes a shot on Ferreira in the hopes that B defense includes some shot-blocking that the Heat could desperately use in reserve of it's starting big men.
25. Toronto Raptors (via San Antonio Spurs) - Everette Stephens PG 6'2" 175 22 B- B- B- B- D+ C
26. Toronto Raptors - Tom Tolbert SF 6'7" 235 23 B- B- D+ B- C+ C
Pete makes a move for a backup PG in case Fultz moves on or is made the full-time Raptors starting SG. Tolbert has the most interesting gradeset of the remaining prospects, so Pete takes a shot on him too hoping to add some competition to push Bridges or McGrady to stand out.
27. Indiana Pacers (via Los Angeles Lakers) - Tim Perry PF 6'9" 200 23 B D+ D+ A- B C
At this point in the draft, prospects are getting thin so Billy takes the player with the most notable skill left on the board. Tim Perry is that with A- B d/r grades for a big. Hopefully he can be the next shot-blocking/stealing/rebounding extraordinaire for the Pacers/Pelicans.
28. Minnesota Timberwolves - Andrew Lang C 6'11" 245 22 B D+ D B+ C+ B
The only real hole that anyone can poke in the Timberwolves' roster construction at the moment is the lack of shot-blocking from its' bigs. Ayyoe makes a move to shore that up by adding the highest graded big man defender left on the board.
29. Cleveland Cavaliers (via Philadelphia 76ers) - Rony Seikaly C 6'11" 230 23 B- D+ D B- B- B
At this point, it's pretty slim pickings so Shaun takes a shot in the dark on DJ Rony in the hopes that his legendary resume in 2.0 will make him a 4.0 diamond in the rough.
