This is an attempt to try and put together a complete list of the players I'm looking at in Free Agency because I'm bored at work and don't have anything to do right now. Hopefully this can help some other folks while putting bids together that were previously confused and dismayed by Ian's attempt at a FA preview and the lack of a Cuban Report so far.
*All players bolded and italicized have outstanding offers their teams' have not yet accepted
Likely Max Players
Josh Jackson SF 6'8'' 203 24 B A- B- B+ B B
Dennis Smith Jr PG 6'2'' 190 24 B B A- B+ C B
Nate Robinson PG 5'9'' 180 29 B- A- A- B+ C B
I think these first two guys are going to be the players most likely to field max offers, so apologies dumptime, but I don't think either will continue to be Celtics. I wouldn't necessarily be happy to get either of these guys on a max (but you maxed MKG and Cornell Green lmao idiot) because they have some flaws in their game, but at this point they are likely the best young players available and there are always teams with max cap space looking to build around young players. To be honest, I think Jackson has all of the same warts as OG (questionable efficiency, turnovers a little high), but just hasn't gotten the same scrutiny because he's stayed on one team and hasn't been relegated to the bench. I still think he has the chance to turn into a good wing though so it is probably worth the risk.
Nate Robinson is an interesting case. Everything we've seen from him looks impressive, but some potential suitors may be scared away by the lack of sample size or by his size.
Near-Max/Fringe Max Players
Gerald Henderson PG 6'2'' 175 33 A- A A- A- C D
John Long SG 6'5'' 210 33 B- A B- A- C D
Detlef Schrempf SF 6'9'' 214 32 B+ A- B- B+ A- C
Patrick Ewing C 7'0'' 255 33 B+ C C- A+ A- C
Eddy Curry C 7'1'' 305 31 A- C- C- A A- D
Benoit Benjamin C 7'0'' 265 32 B+ C C- A+ A D
This is a group of players that likely deserve max contracts but because we have become smarter as GMs and most have reached the point that they are looking for their second max deal or more, they aren't likely to get the big veteran max contract. Henderson was probably miscast last season as a SG and could use a move back to his more natural position. His age will likely be a deterrent to some potential suitors who don't see him fitting in their long-term plans. Long and Detlef are both high-level wing players in this league that are likely to be resigned by their current teams but could be snagged by a contender (or a team looking to contend) like the Nets, Raptors, Bulls, Jazz, or Blazers.
The rest of this group are all elite defensive rebounding bigs who are also sometimes not a complete liability on offense. These are the bigs that will likely command the most money in the form of multi-year, high-dollar, flat rate contracts. Curry is the most intriguing to me because he had previously made his bones as an okay offensive big who was serviceable defensively a la Andrew Bynum, but last year he stepped his game up tremendously on the defensive end. It will be interesting to see if that part of his game remains.
Expiring Rookie Contracts to Take A Flier On
Dillon Brooks SF 6'7'' 215 25 B A- B+ B+ B- B
OG Anunoby SF 6'8'' 240 24 A- B+ C A- B- B
Malik Monk PG 6'4'' 185 24 B- A- C+ A- C A
De'Aaron Fox PG 6'4'' 171 24 C+ B+ A- A C B
Frank Ntilikina PG 6'5'' 170 23 C+ B- A- A- C A
Jonathan Isaac SF 6'11'' 215 24 B B- C- A- B- B
Charles Smith SF 6'4'' 194 24 B- B C B C+ A
This group of players are your guys who haven't done enough to earn a max on their rookie contract, but still have some interesting potential. With the right team, they could become stars or they could wash out and be MLE/LLE roster filler. Brooks does everything good - solid efficiency, rebounds well, doesn't turn it over, defense is passable, he just doesn't have the volume to become a MAX guy yet, in my opinion. OG had a breakout season this year in a limited role. I think his past has checkered a lot of GM's perception of him and he's as likely to regress as he is to be a breakout player on a new team.
Monk and Fox both have tantalizing grades but just haven't quite put it all together. Fox could score with more volume and limit the turnovers, and Monk just needs to do everything all-around a little bit better so the production matches his grades. Nitilikina has everything you could want in a PG if he could just learn to GET BUCKETS. Isaac has been lost in Orlando for all of his rookie contract. He does a little bit of everything and is sort of like a poor man's Dillon Brooks. The thing that hurts his value for me is he's not SG eligible so if he's not starting, you'd have to have separate backups at the 2 and 3.
Finally, I've included Charles Smith. The former second rounder is coming off two seasons with the Clippers. He has appealing grades and has retained his A potential but his scoring efficiency has been downright bad in a limited sample. Could be worth a look for a team with plenty of cap and some minutes to spare for a developmental prospect.
Bigs - Tier 1
Alonzo Mourning C 6'10'' 260 37 A- C+ C- B+ A- C
Pau Gasol C 7'0'' 250 33 B+ C- C B+ A D
Wayne Hightower C 6'8'' 233 28 C+ D+ D B+ A- C
Loren Woods C 7'1'' 245 35 C C- D+ B+ B+ D
Amir Johnson C 6'10'' 240 27 C C- D+ B+ A- C
Charlie Tyra C 7'0'' 235 35 C- C- C A- B D
Nazr Mohammed C 6'10'' 221 28 B- C D- B+ B+ B
Mourning and Gasol are both very good defenders that perhaps shoot a bit too much and inefficiently. They are hovering just outside the group of guys on the list above like Benjamin, Ewing, and Curry because they're just a hair behind as D/R bigs and their offensive games are just a bit more of a liability. Mourning also will likely have some concerns about how his game holds up year-to-year as a 37 year old. Hightower is a great D/R big who probably deserves to be a starter in this league but has just scared of some GM's looking for taller bigs. The next three guys have been Ward's secret sauce over the last couple of seasons, the D/R big rotation that complemented his prolific wing trio of CP3, Baylor, and Lewis. Woods has always rated as one of the better bigs in the league by Win Shares and Tyra and Johnson are no slouches. All could be starters for any team in need of a defensive big. Mohammed is a guy I've always liked. He might not quite deserve to be included with this group but I'm doing it anyways. I thought this was a big loss for Ayyoe when he left and went to Boston because he's got the ability and potential to be a good starting D/R big.
Bigs - Tier 2
Ousmane Cisse C 6'9'' 240 31 B D C- A B+ C
JaMychal Green PF 6'9'' 237 31 B+ C C- B+ B D
Andrew Bogut C 7'0'' 260 29 A- C- C B+ A C
Kwame Brown C 7'0'' 270 31 B+ C- C- A- B+ C
Wayne Cooper PF 6'10'' 220 33 B- D+ D+ B+ A- C
These are the guys that you probably don't want starting but would be glad to have as a third big. They all shoot a little too much a little too inefficiently, rebound a little less, or turn it over a little more than you'd like. They can be D/R starting bigs if you have no other options, but on a good team are likely backing up the 4 and 5 off the bench.
Bigs - Eric Tier
Caleb McIlvaine C 7'2'' 242 35 C C C+ A- A- C
Steven Hunter C 7'0'' 220 32 C+ D D B+ B+ D
Steven Adams C 7'0'' 250 36 C+ D+ C- A A- D
Charles Oakley C 6'8'' 225 32 C+ C+ C A A D
Robert Strong C 7'2'' 290 35 C C- C A- A F
Not much to say about this group other than they are likely to be Knicks and make a minimum salary. All of these guys are D/R bigs but don't have the block or rebound rates to make you feel comfortable having them be a big part of your rotation. Your "break glass in case of emergency" bigs
Wings - Tier 1
Sam Jones SG 6'4'' 198 36 B A- C+ B C F
Shane Battier SF 6'8'' 220 35 C+ A- C- B B- D
John Jenkins SG 6'4'' 225 30 B A C- B- C D
Luke Walton PF 6'8'' 235 28 B- C+ B B B B
These guys are your players who are likely not going to get max money but are still capable of being starters. Sam Jones and Shane Battier both put up solid seasons last year for the Raptors and Nets and can give you just enough on both ends to justify keeping them in the starting lineup. You likely don't want to blow your budget on these guys, though.
Jenkins is a guy I don't understand why hasn't had an opportunity to become a starter in this league. In the last two seasons, albeit in limited time, he's put up excellent efficiency. He averages about 2.5 penises in his butt per 36 over his career, and while his turnovers are a little high they aren't unmanageable. The rebounding is bad, but in a lineup with an elite rebounder at the 3-5, he could be good as a scorer at the 2. Walton is another guy I don't understand why hasn't stuck somewhere. He's got kind of a Ben Bentil-lite thing going on with fairly efficient scoring and underrated defense and rebounding at the 3. He's not a volume scorer, of course, but he also doesn't turn the ball over. He could be a contributor and even a starter somewhere desperate for a 3. He was a big part of the Timberwolves playoff teams before they upgraded to Bird.
Wings - Tier 2
Hal Greer PG 6'2'' 175 35 C+ A- A- B+ C D
Bradley Beal SG 6'6'' 207 28 B A- C- B+ C F
Jason Richardson SG 6'6'' 220 32 B+ B+ C+ B C C
Bonzi Wells SF 6'5'' 210 29 C+ B+ C A B C
Roger Phegley SF 6'6'' 205 33 C+ A- C- B+ C+ C
Rodney White SF 6'9'' 238 33 B B C- A- C+ C
Gerald Wallace SF 6'7'' 215 31 B+ B- C B+ B C
Isidoro Meyers SF 6'7'' 226 35 B- B- C- A- C+ C
These are your third wings. The unsung heroes who backup your small forwards and shooting guards. I'm including Greer here because I think the 2 is his best spot and he has some appeal as a potential supersub to a team who may be strapped for cash and looking to find as much value as they can on a budget. Beal, Richardson, and Wells can provide a little scoring with passable efficiency and defense and can start for short spells in case of injury. Richardson especially had a great season with the Wolves last season but I don't expect that to be repeated. Rounding out the group are the D/R wings. These are the guys that get penises in his butt but have other flaws in their games, whether it be poor scoring or turnovers and even age, that keep them from being likely starters.
Point Guards - Tier 1
Tony Wroten PG 6'7'' 205 28 B- A- A- B C C
Josh Hart SG 6'6'' 204 26 C+ B+ B+ B+ C C
This is your group of point guards who could be potential starters that hasn't already been covered in previous groupings. Wroten is a dynamic scorer and can be a starter, but I think 2poor found out this year that his defense leaves a lot to be desired. He could be a good value for a PG-needy team with solid defenders everywhere else. Josh Hart is an intriguing player to me. An SC from Pete this season pushed him into PG eligibility. With his previous stats showing he can provide decent production, I'm intrigued to see if someone takes a flier on him as a developmental PG.
Point Guards - Tier 2
Mo Williams PG 6'1'' 198 26 C+ A- B B C B
Dennis Schröder PG 6'2'' 182 35 C+ B+ A- A- C C
Scott Howard PG 5'5'' 140 29 B- A A B+ D+ C
Guy Rodgers PG 6'0'' 190 36 C+ A- A B C- C
Lil Penny PG 5'3'' 155 37 C+ B+ B+ A- D+ D
Corey Benjamin PG 6'6'' 200 28 B B B+ B C C
Lou Williams PG 6'2'' 175 27 B- A C B+ C- D
Not a whole lot to say about this group. This is your garden variety group of backup PGs. These guys are serviceable if unspectacular and could step up to start in some short stretches in a pinch.
