Taking another look at the 3043 Draft now that the players have played out their rookie contracts.
1. Lonzo Ball - PG - Raptors
Starting Grades: Lonzo Ball PG 6'6'' 190 20 C B- A- B C+ A
Current Grades: Lonzo Ball PG 6'6'' 190 24 C+ A A+ A C+ B (+10)
Original Slot: 1.2 (Spurs)
At the time of the draft, Lonzo's summit performance had TMBSL buzzing about his potential as a future franchise superstar PG, 4 years later Lonzo has become the no brainer best player in the class and a borderline top 5 PG in the league. Given the chance for a do-over, I'm sure GM handsome pete would have taken Lonzo instead of the turnover prone Fultz.
2. Markelle Fultz - PG - Spurs
Starting Grades: Markelle Fultz PG 6'4'' 185 19 B C+ B- B- C A
Current Grades: Markelle Fultz PG 6'5'' 195 23 B+ A- B+ A- C B (+8)
1. Lonzo Ball - PG - Raptors
Starting Grades: Lonzo Ball PG 6'6'' 190 20 C B- A- B C+ A
Current Grades: Lonzo Ball PG 6'6'' 190 24 C+ A A+ A C+ B (+10)
Original Slot: 1.2 (Spurs)

2. Markelle Fultz - PG - Spurs
Starting Grades: Markelle Fultz PG 6'4'' 185 19 B C+ B- B- C A
Current Grades: Markelle Fultz PG 6'5'' 195 23 B+ A- B+ A- C B (+8)
Original Slot: 1.1 (Raptors)
Although Fultz has lost the head to head with Lonzo as the best PG in the class, he's by no means a slouch. Pointed out in my FA articles, Fultz has had more 50 point scoring performances of any single prospect in the 3043 draft class. His only downside is his poor handles, but given that he has the size to handle playing SG full time moving forward, Fultz is still a potential superstar in the league, he'll just have to do it as a wing instead of the primary ball handler.
3. Jayson Tatum - SF - Lakers
Starting Grades: Jayson Tatum SF 6'8'' 204 20 B- B C- C+ C+ A
Current Grades: Jayson Tatum SF 6'8'' 210 24 B A C- B- C+ B (+5)
Original Slot: 1.3 (Lakers)
Tatum was viewed as the safest pick in the top 3, a high floor SG eligible wing with good offense and questionable defense. Fast forward 4 years and Jayson hasn't exactly done much to change the narrative. With only a +5 from his draft grades, Tatum has had the least growth of anyone in the entire re-draft lottery, however to his credit, Tatum's production hasn't done much harm to hurt his stock so he gets to keep his status as a top 3 pick due to his solid starting point.
4. Josh Jackson - SF - Nuggets
Starting Grades: Josh Jackson SF 6'8'' 203 20 B C C+ B+ B- A
Current Grades: Josh Jackson SF 6'8'' 203 24 B A- B- B+ B B (+7)
Original Slot: 1.10 (Celtics)
Josh Jackson coming out of the summit was getting top 3 pick type of buzz due to his performance and inexplicably fell all the way to the 10th spot. In the re-draft, JJ has done enough over his rookie contract to prove his summit doubters wrong. Likely to receive a max contract in the upcoming free agency, Jackson will still need to improve his overall efficiency and defense to justify making 12+ million a year.
5. Dennis Smith Jr. - PG - Kings
Starting Grades: Dennis Smith Jr PG 6'2'' 160 20 B- C+ B B- C- A
Current Grades: Dennis Smith Jr PG 6'2'' 190 24 B B A- B+ C B (+8)
Original Slot: 1.19 (Celtics)
Dumptime had a hell of a draft in 3043 as DSJr. makes the 2nd Celtic draftee to appear in the top 5 of the re-draft. In limited preseason minutes of his contract year, Smith has shown flashes of being a plus point guard as a starter. Had 2poor taken Smith instead of Monk 4 years ago, the Kings PG situation would have certainly looked a lot rosier.
6. Dillon Brooks - SF - Heat
Starting Grades: Dillon Brooks SF 6'7'' 215 21 B- B- C+ C+ C+ B
Current Grades: Dillon Brooks SF 6'7'' 215 25 B A- B+ B+ B- B (+11)
Original Slot: 1.15 (Bucks)
Brooks has made the most out of TCs than anyone else in the re-draft, increasing his grades by a healthy +11. The current version of Dillon Brooks isn't too far off from being on par with Jayson Tatum as far as production goes after having improved his efficiency by leaps and bounds after an atrocious rookie season shooting under 40% from the field. Given the Heat's current situation at SG, having Brooks instead of banking on the development of Stephen Jackson would have been much more preferable.
7. Jarret Allen - C - Bulls
Starting Grades: Jarrett Allen C 6'11'' 224 19 C+ D+ D B B- A
Current Grades: Jarrett Allen C 7'0'' 230 23 B- D+ C- A- A- A (+8)
Original Slot: 1.12 (Spurs)
Originally used to pick a bumfuck named Robert Williams (is he still in the league?) out of some cow college, lip as an inexperienced GM passed on drafting a future max wing player in Josh Jackson in favor of a big who couldn't exactly rebound or block shots. With the power of hindsight, the Bulls franchise gets a re-do and can pick up the best pure d/r big in the draft in Jarret Allen, who has turned out to be exactly as advertised: a defensive minded center that can also chip in a steal a game, which is a huge boon in this software.
8. Justin Patton - C - Grizzlies
Starting Grades: Justin Patton C 7'0'' 233 20 B+ C- C- B- C+ A
Current Grades: Justin Patton C 7'0'' 243 24 A- C- D A B+ B (+6)
Original Slot 1.11 (Bucks)
The Grizzlies, like the Bulls also suffered the consequences of an inexperienced GM drafting a potential 2-way big man in the lottery over a potential star wing player. Hindsight re-draft bestows upon the city of Vancouver a 2 way big man that actually panned out in Justin Patton. A late addition to the draft file, Patton has taken advantage of being under the radar a bit and has quietly developed a solid offensive game to go with his above average d/r.
9. Caleb Swanigan - PF - Magic
Starting Grades: Caleb Swanigan PF 6'9'' 247 20 B C+ C- C+ B C
Current Grades: Caleb Swanigan C 6'9'' 247 24 B+ C+ C- A- B+ C (+6)
Original Slot: 2.10 (Nets)
All jokes of "Swoonigan" aside, Caleb is undoubted the best 2nd rounder the 3043 draft has produced, enough to the point of his production warranting a lottery spot in the re-draft. Not quite as efficient on the offensive end as Justin Patton, likely due to his lack of size to be a viable offensive big man, Swanigan also has some turnover issues, but the shot blocking isn't as dire as a certain GM based out of Brooklyn would have you believe and the 1 steal per game is a nice addition too.
10. Miles Bridges - F - Celtics
Starting Grades: Miles Bridges SF 6'6'' 215 20 B C+ C C+ B- A
Current Grades: Miles Bridges SF 6'6'' 215 24 B+ B+ C A- B+ A (+10)
Original Slot: 1.14 (Raptors)
Not exactly Josh Jackson but Miles Bridges isn't completely out of reach of being close to JJ. The handles and efficiency is still an issue but Bridges did put up decent blocking numbers in this debut season after a 2 year stint overseas. A few very lucky TCs to the right defensive grades and handles and Miles could turn into a poor man's MKG in a few season.
11. Malik Monk - G - Bucks
Starting Grades: Malik Monk SG 6'4'' 185 20 B- B C C+ C- A
Current Grades: Malik Monk PG 6'4'' 185 24 B- A- C+ A- C A (+8)
Original Slot: 1.5 (Kings)
Starting to see noticeable dropoffs at this point in the lottery. Once considered a steal at 5 due to the inexplicable pick at 1.4 by dirt to select Harry Giles, Monk's development has certainly left a lot to be desired. Not secure enough with the ball to be a primary ball handler and doesn't score with enough efficiency to be a starting 2 guard, Malik's future is likely an unglorified career as a journeyman backup combo guard.
12. De'Aaron Fox - PG - Spurs
Starting Grades: De'Aaron Fox PG 6'4'' 171 20 C+ C+ B B C A
Current Grades: De'Aaron Fox PG 6'4'' 171 24 C+ B+ A- A C B (+8)
Original Slot: 1.6 (Heat)
Not much to say about Fox other than his overall game hasn't grown the way a top 10 pick needed to grow to warrant a max contract. De'Aaron is likely headed to follow the path of washout PGs like Corey Benjamin who look the part of a starter but plays like a career backup.
13. OG Anunoby - F - Raptors
Starting Grades: OG Anunoby SF 6'8'' 235 20 B C+ C- B C+ A
Current Grades: OG Anunoby SF 6'8'' 240 24 A- B+ C A- B- B (+9)
Original Slot: 1.16 (Lakers)
Grades look the part of a starting wing, but production indicates that of a roster filler at best. Unlike the Malik Monks and De'Aaron Foxes of the world who can carve out a career as a backup PG, there isn't much room in TMBSL for a backup wing who can't block shots and also struggle with FG efficiency and turnovers. Will need to improve on all aspects of his game before his stats comes anywhere close to his grades.
Best pick: Caleb Swanigan (Nets 2.10)
Worst pick: Harry Giles (Nuggets 1.4)
Draft Analysis: Top heavy draft of 2-3 stars with Lonzo Ball being the lone likely HoF candidate. Then a few decent starting role players and not much else.
Overall Draft Grade: B+
Although Fultz has lost the head to head with Lonzo as the best PG in the class, he's by no means a slouch. Pointed out in my FA articles, Fultz has had more 50 point scoring performances of any single prospect in the 3043 draft class. Starting Grades: Jayson Tatum SF 6'8'' 204 20 B- B C- C+ C+ A
Current Grades: Jayson Tatum SF 6'8'' 210 24 B A C- B- C+ B (+5)
Original Slot: 1.3 (Lakers)

Fast forward 4 years and Jayson hasn't exactly done much to change the narrative.
