Welcome one and all to the only award show that matters. Sometimes the software makes odd decisions, we rely on our GMs to make them in a smarter, less fixed way.
Without further ado, the awards are as follows (culminating in the MVP Award, sponsored by BK British Knights):
GM You'd Least Like to Meet in a Dark Alley:
We had several responses here, ranging from fear, to lewd, to bravado. Only two names appeared on multiple ballots. One was Odin, but he did not receive any first place votes. The other, and defacto winner of the category was kn88.
However, I would like to submit a different reason for kn88 winning the award. From his own ballot, responding to the question: " Anyone could get it "
So, he assuredly deserves it.
Honorable Mention: "drunk" Souper Troopers and "drunk" Buster 5000 both appeared on ballots. Former GMs still got you guys shook.
Surprise Team of the Year (Good Surprise):
The Atlanta Hawks! Congrats [Account Deleted]! I think this means everyone had a really low expectation for you and were blown away by your success.
Honorable Mention: The Miami Heat and Citizen Cane
Surprise Team of the Year (Bad Surprise):
A more hotly contested race than the good surprise, several teams appeared on the ballots here. However, the most common refrain was surprise at the post-ASG swoon in the Houston heat. So, Cinco de Wardo and the Houston Rockets receive the dubious honor.
Honorable Mention: The New York Knicks and eric (this isn't the first bad news for , stay tuned.)
Rookie of the Year:
Run away winner, Salado Valarado III. (Souper Troopers Mad King)
Total Voting Breakdown:
1. Valarado III - 27 (7 1st place votes)
2. Yao Ming - 13 (2 1st place votes)
3. Caron Butler - 11
4. Jason "Jay" Williams - 7 (1 1st place vote)
5. Dajuan Wagner - 1
5t. Amare Stoudemire - 1
Worst GM of the Year (WGMOTY):
A wide variety of opinions and critiques have been levied at the feet of the General Managers on these ballots. Some are there because of complete inactivity, some are there because of horrible trades, some are there because of horrible personalities. Some were voted because they turned the reins over midseason and led to a few very weird days of trades, rules violations, and general angst in shout.
In a somewhat narrow win (loss?) the award goes to eric who appeared on the greatest number of ballots. Congratulations? Special congratulations go to the Indiana Pacers organization, which combined for 2 of the top 4 Worst GMs this year.
Total Voting Breakdown:
eric - 13 (3 1st place votes)
