Think this is one that is well overdue. Canes gave me a chance to ask him some questions. Enjoy.
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Most of the vets know pretty much everything about me, but I'll try to be thorough for the newer guys. I'm a 28 year old UM grad and am now an attorney. I am a fan of all the Miami sports teams but my favorite sport is hockey so I consider the Panthers my favorite team. I enjoy reading, video games, and drinking. Since TMB and to a lesser extent TMBSL has become very politically inclined lately, I'm a pretty staunch conservative who thinks Donald Trump is a disaster but I absolutely love how much he pisses off TMB(SL) liberals. My favorite movie is Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and my favorite book series is Harry Potter. Favorite TV show currently on is Silicon Valley but my favorite show of all time is The Office. I really can't think of anything else to put here, but if people got questions, I'll answer them. I'm not like Ian who is worried about people knowing shit about me.
Do you remember what brought you to sim league?
I was recruited by TMBSL's favorite peace corps member RW way back in the winter of 2011 and have been a member of TMBSL almost the entire time since.
Congratulations on your championship in 3046. I believe this is your 2nd now. Which to you was more satififying? The first or the one that beat the Dump Dynasty?
The 2.0 title was definitely sweeter to me. That was a team I built via shrewd drafting and some smart trades. This team was built based on some obvious picks Simmons at 1.1 (yes I know I didn't actually make the pick but Simmons was always going to be my pick at 1.1) and some great FA luck in getting Theus and Chandler. I'm happy to get the 4.0 monkey off my back, but I'm not gonna go full dumpflower and beat my chest over a title that was mostly luck and good fortune.
Speaking of Dump, anything you would want to say to your friend? You always have kind words to share to each other.
Dump does love throwing shit at me. Imo its pretty obvious why. It's low hanging fruit. You got your guys on TMB and TMBSL who don't like me and can't wait to pile on. It's easy affirmation for dump and it makes him feel good. 95% of the time it doesn't bother me because I know he doesn't really mean any of it. As for him murdering dogs for a living. HOW COULD YOU DUMP!!!!! UNFORGIVABLE. But really does he murder dogs? I thought he was just a groomer? When did he get into the murdering business?
Time for some lists, can you give me a list of your all time 5 best and worst GM's of sim league and a little reason why?
1. Soup-He has had success both in 2.0 and 4.0. There is little doubt he in my mind that he is the best of all time. He even pulled the strings on some titles for Dumpy.
2. Fason- Not trying to suck up to the interviewer, but you have to be #2. In both 2.0 and 4.0 when you want to tank, you almost always have the worst record and when you want to compete you are in the top half of the east.
3. W2D- He's still a little rusty from his 2.0 days but he was the best GM in 2.0 and it wasn't even close. So many brilliant moves like trading Wade for Lebron at just the right time to keep his dynasty going.
4. 20x4- Consistently very good despite hating tanking. First to realize shown defensive grade doesn't mean shit and that is without tearing through the software like eric.
5. Buster- He didn't last long in 4.0, but he was excellent in 2.0 and grabs the #5 spot for me.
Bottom 5.
5. Yawn- A lot of this is due to inactivity. He just doesn't put in the effort to make his team a contender. He also has a proclivity to gift other GMs a top tier player for scraps.
4. Ian- I've said it a bunch, but for someone who had more knowledge of the software than anyone until eric came around, he absolutely sucks as a GM. Overrates his own players and rarely makes the correct move. He was an easy member of this list.
3. Scat- Scat luck is real and he never did anything with it. Guy stole max players and jumped from the middle of the lotto to the top more than anyone else and was still mediocre. Thought about putting him at #2 but here he sits.
2. RW- I like RW as a person more than almost everyone else in TMBSL history, but yeah, he was an awful GM. Constantly overrated his own players, awful to talk trades with because every trade had to have 5 different stipulations.
1.Mops- Mops was everything you could hate about a GM. He had no idea how to build a contender, took forever to respond to PMs, took forever to make his draft picks, and never put points into his players. Even with all of that, the most frustrating thing about Mops was how bipolar he was in trade talks. He'd have a star player everyone wants, would get massive offers that he would turn down, only to trade away that player for scraps 2 weeks later. Mops not being invited to 4.0 was great for the league. He's an easy choice for worst GM.
We all have that one GM that we just hate to deal with and talk with, who is that GM for you and why?
I am going to split this question into 2. Neither should really be a surprise to anyone. For TMBSL related things, I hate talking to heebs. He is just as much of a pain in the ass about trading his players as I am. He only does trades that are heavily slanted in his favor and when you don't accept, he runs to shout to call you an idiot. You can trace each of his championship caliber teams to a trade rape of a GM who is brand new or just doesn't give a shit anymore.
As for the GM I don't enjoy talking to in shout, this is another obvious answer. 2poor. It's readily apparent to everyone that we will never agree on anything when it comes to politics, so I just stopped engaging because talking to him about politics is as fun as hitting myself in the head with a hammer. Whether its here or tmb he loves trying to start shit. It got old years ago and almost always stops the original discussion (whether politics related or not) from taking place. So yeah, this was a pretty easy answer.
Can you give me your all time starting 5 of sim league. Players do not need to be current.
All Time starting 5
C. 2.0 Bynum
PF: 2.0 KG
SF: 4.0 Kristaps Porzingis
SG: 2.0 Nick Diaz
PG: 4.0 Magic
What is the best sporting event you have attended?
My favorite game was probably the win v. OSU in Golden's first year. So much went wrong that summer with all the Shapiro shit and to knock off OSU was such a cathartic moment for the entire program. Looking back it was obviously all a mirage because OSU was going through some shit of their own, but for that one game, everything was perfect. It helps that it was a night game, I was drunk, and I didn't have to do anything other than make sure nobody walked in front of our camera shooting from the sideline and be ready to grab a replacement battery if one of the coach's headsets died.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
All-time it has to be Sean Taylor. Never met him, but he embodied everything it is to be a UM player.
If you could make one change to sim league, what would that change be and why?
The rule system is pretty much perfect right now. I don't have many complaints. The only thing I would really change is to remove some of the randomness in the software. It's annoying that you can do all the right things including draft a guy with great grades, a great bio, that was built to be a stud and then the software tells you to fuck off and busts him anyway. Would be nice for a little bit more consistency.
Rank your top 5 drinks by choice.
1. Start off with the standard Zacapa Rum and a splash of coke
2. Johhny Walker Platinum- I like it better than Blue.
3. Macallan 18
4. Margarita- If loving Margaritas is gay, who wants to be straight.
5. Funky Buddah Floridian- Local wheat beer. Love it, could drink it every day.
In my opinion, you are one of the best at evaluating players in sim league and finding hidden gems. Obviously, you do not want to give away too much but anything you would care to share about what you look for?
I'm not the best person to get advice from on this but, listen to others early on. You have no idea what is important and what is important in the NBA is not important in TMBSL. Also. Get advice on all your trades early. If a vet tells you its a bad deal, DON'T DO IT. You are either overpaying or getting pennies on the dollar for your star.
In life we all have those teams and fanbases that we don't like or cannot stand. What fanbase is that for you and why?
Thats an easy answer. It's UF fans. I've been to both stadiums and every time I have been to Doak, it was a great experience. The people were friendly and the people sitting around me shook my hand and wished me luck pre-game and win or lose (lot of losses lately) shook my hand post game and wished me a safe drive home. UF fans were the worst. I got spit on, people tried to pull my hat off my head, it was pretty much the worst experience I have ever had at a stadium. As for on TMB, its pretty much equal. You have your fans who are great to talk CFB with like W2D and Fason, and your fans who think this is still rivals like Boo Mfer and Bricktop.
Let's get some ND talk in here, Are we now a basketball school or what do you see in the future with Brian Kelly and the football team?
I was a video assistant not a manager. Did the same job as the kid from ND who died. (Side note, that kid's death is 100% on Kelly).
We have Valentines day approaching, if I gave you the powers of Cupid and you can hit love arrows, who would you match up with what gms?
Ana Kendrick- she seems to have a quirky personality and so does IanBoyd . Ian wouldn't know what to do with Ana Kendrick and this would drive dump crazy.
Taylor Swift- Heebs I don't know why, but I think this would be an interesting match and would cause dump pain.
Emilia Clarke- Souper Troopers I think this one would kill him most.
SJU- kn88 throwing a bone to my fellow Cane. He'd have fun with her.
Emma Watson- Saving her for myself. I'd even join her in all her SJW marches.
Any final words or shout outs?
Final shots. You all are lucky that Dion Waiters is at home doing damn articles.
