Steph Templeton
gimme my dump bucks
So I went back to 3010 and tallied up all the MP and WS of players listed in the post-TC signings threads of each year.
In total 609 players generated 314 Win Shares over 561,479 minutes played: .03 WS/48, way below the league average of ~.10.
However, 196 of these players generated negative Win Shares, and received slightly more MP per player at 1080 to 847.
Removing them from the tally gives 568 Win Shares over 349,960 minutes played, a much more respectable .08 WS/48.
3025 was the first year where GMs were not allowed to sign as many players as they wanted post-TC. This paradoxically caused a brief surge in post-TC signings per year, but by 3029 that number was in permanent decline.
Here are the top ten for total WS produced by a player in the season immediately following their post-TC signing, and the top ten for WS/48 (minimum 500 MP):
Stephon Templeton is the only player to be listed for two different seasons.
I offered him the MLE but the immortal Priest Lauderdale signed first, and if you can imagine, I was capped out.
I know, right? The Knicks! Capped out! It's inconceivable.
But I got him in post-TC to give me 8 centers and 4 PGs.
Maxed him the next year.
Rolled to a 59 win season and the Finals.
Then I brought in known loser Aaron Harrison and it all went to pot.
Delonte West's superlative 3017 is the only one on both lists. West was a great backup PG for many years and coming off back to back 50+ FG% seasons, so how Fason snagged him for the min is anyone's guess. He put up a sensational 1.11 pts/tsa on his career but due to being mediocre at everything else never got a starting nod in 17 years. After backstopping the great Mike Conley during a 60+ win Sixers season (as if there was any other kind in the Conley days) he continued bouncing around the league and doing not much.
I went by GM name instead of team name because who can keep track anymore.
Four GMs with two appearances: ANK1990, eric, Odin, Trofie
Then the big boss man with four: Face-in
Finally, the player who produced positive Win Shares the most times on post-TC signings: Terry Mills. Ol' Terry was (probably) a classic tweener, not a good enough scorer to play SF and not enough blocks to play PF. I say probably because he was listed at PF and all depth chart information from the 3010s is long since lost. His career line was 13, 10, and 2.2 per 36 on 1.00 pts/tsa. Given being signed on post-TC deals six different times and four years in a row, my guess is he played at PF. No other player was signed even five times.
