Roles distributed randomly:

3 Mafia Members (1 silencer) - May communicate via Group PM that I will setup. Get 1 kill per night phase. Silencer may pick one person per night phase who is silenced for the following day. If silenced, a player may only make 1 post for the day containing only their vote. This post can contain no text beyond a bolded name indicating a vote. The mafia may not silence a player in consecutive days.

1 Cop - Gets 1 investigation per night phase, Cop is on the same team as the Civilians

1 Bodyguard - Gets to protect one person each night. Cannot protect himself. If the protected person is targeted by the mafia during the night phase, then the bodyguard and hitting mafia member both die. The person protected stays alive.

Rules:



In its simplest form, the game of Mafia consists of two competing sides: the Mafia and the Town/Civilians. The Mafia's goal is to kill the innocents, while the Town's goal is to kill the Mafia.



At the beginning of the game, the Moderator will secretly send everyone their role via PM. The Mafia will know each other, while (in the basic game) everyone else will only know their own role. You should have received your role via PM.

The game has two phases: Day and Night



Day Phase



During Day, the thread is open for posting. All players will discuss in the Game thread whom to execute next. Generally, Civilians players will vote for someone they think is Mafia (the Mafia will vote so that they seem to be doing this as well, and might even vote for each other to confuse the Town);



Whoever has the most votes at the deadline is executed. In the case of a tie, we will enter a 15 minute overtime period. During overtime, you may only change your vote to someone within the tie. The first vote change will be deciding. If the vote remains tied after OT, the moderator will flip a coin and eliminate 1 of the people within the tie. The role of the executed player is revealed by the Moderator, and it becomes Night.



Night



During the Night, the thread is locked and no one can talk publicly. NO POSTING IN THE THREAD DURING NIGHT. The Mafia, however, can speak to each other via pm to plot strategy and decide who to murder before the next Day begins.



During Night, the mafia will pm me the name of a player to be murdered. This player will be killed and removed from the game.



During Night, the cop will pm me the name of a player to be investigated. I will respond to the cop via pm and reveal the role of that player.



During night, the bodyguard will pm me the name of a player to be protected.

The game alternates between Day and Night until all the Mafia are eliminated, or the Mafia have killed everyone else.

MISC Rules/Notes

- Feel free to ask questions regarding the mechanics of the game, and I will gladly answer. If you are a regular civilian, please only ask questions within the Public Game thread

- Do not publicly mention anything about Mafia PMs. Don't tell me in shout that you sent me a pm about mafia. That includes the initial role assignment pm.

- No dead posting. If you are executed or murdered, don't post in the thread.

- No post editing.

- We're somewhat operating on the honors system given that we're doing this on Proboards. Just don't be a jerk.

- Don't SHOUT - Keep Mafia talk off of shout. All game-related discussion should take place within this thread. No Mafia talk of any kind will be tolerated in shout.

- No Liking or Disliking posts. This applies when you are alive or dead. If you are alive and want to agree with a post, quote it and say so. If you are dead, you are not allowed to interact with the game.

- Everyone got a PM about their role. Mafia, Cop, Bodyguard, and Civs. DO NOT SHARE THE CONTENTS OF YOUR PM. YOU WILL BE ADMIN KILLED.

- NO TEXTING AMONGST YOURSELVES. ALIVE OR DEAD DOESN'T MATTER. Only the mafia can communicate with each other via text.

- Check to see if you are silenced before posting each day. If you openly post while silenced, I will be forced to admin kill.

- Have fun and be respectful!

A few notes on Voting:

Majority Vote - If a majority of the remaining players are voting for the same person, a 30 minute timer is started. If at the end of the 30 minutes, a majority are still voting for that person, then that player will immediately be executed, and we won't until the deadline time.

No Execution- Players may vote for a "No Execution". If "No Execution" wins the vote, no one will be executed during the Day Phase, and we will progress to the Night Phase.

How to Vote - Please indicate your vote by bolding a player's name. For example:

I vote for RW!

Missed Votes - A player may miss 1 vote without repercussions. If a player misses 2 votes, they are auto-killed and removed from the game. If you miss a vote during a Day that ends early due to a Majority Vote, then you are not penalized.

Vote Changes - You are allowed to change your vote as you desire. Simply bold your change.

Tied Votes - If a vote is tied, we will enter a 15 minute overtime phase. You can only vote for someone it the tie in OT. Overtime is sudden death. The first vote change will be deciding.

Day 1 deadline - Tuesday at 6pm CT
Day 2 deadline - Wednesday at 10am CT
Day 3 deadline - Wednesday at 2pm CT
Day 4 deadline - Wednesday at 6pm CT
Day 5 deadline - Thursday at 10am CT

The times I listed are when the listed day ENDS. For example, Day 1 will end at 6pm CT on Tuesday. We will discuss how we'll handle weekend times.

After a day ends, we will briefly enter a night phase. There will be 30 minutes for the Mafia, Cop, and Bodyguard to pm me their night moves. During this night phase no one can post in the Game Thread. For example, Night 1 will approximately last from 6-6:30pm on Tuesday. I will try to lock the thread during night phase. But please be cognizant of when a day ends. Night posting is not allowed and may result in being admin killed.

The Night Phase ends when I post who the Mafia killed. The next day then begins.

I haven't been silenced this round. I'm going to vote for JHB because I wasn't able to vote for him enough last game. At this point my thoughts are that we may want to go with a completely random day one kill by having everybody vote for someone different. Obviously if someone comes in doing a bunch of shady stuff, I wouldn't blame anyone for voting voting for someone specific, but at this point we don't have a ton of info on anyone and I have been told it's always better for the town to execute someone rather than allowing the mafia to get the first kill when there are not a ton of specialized roles.

Silencer has to pm their target at night, so since this version of mafia starts during the day, no one should be silenced today.

Just so everyone knows my schedule, I have softball regular season 8u game tonight 5:45, Practice tomorrow for 10u @ 6:30, Playoff game for 8u on thursday at 5:45 and playoff game for 10u on Friday @ 5:45. So I am not going to be able to post probably a good hour leading up to some of these times as I am working with the girls on drills.
