After Day 40
Rookies
1. Drake Wilton-The MVP of this rookie class, taking the Bucks from tankers to top 4 seed in the east. He’s averaging 25 PPG, shooting 50.2% from the field and 48.8% from beyond the arc. What he’s doing offensively right now probably won’t continue, but is insane for a rookie. His rebounding is already solid at 5.5 boards a game, he’s only averaging 1.3 steals and .2 blocks so all of his upgrades can and should go into his defense. He’s also only 19 years old so congrats Duc.
2. Glynn Watson
-Wish I could say I didn’t see this coming, I know 20s said he didn’t intend for Watson to go +7 in his first TC, but we all knew he’d be really good. Similar to Tyronn Lue, Watson doesn’t really have any flaws other than low rebounding. His jumper and inside are probably maxed, he doesn’t turn it over much, 1.5 steals is solid and the .4 blocks shows he has the potential to get to .7-1 BPG.
*Let’s all take a moment to laugh at Billy King for overthinking his tank and passing on Watson to take Jaren Jackson.
3. Coop Cooper
-I was skeptical of how good he’d be due to his size, and low rebounding/handling grades, I guess we should have been tipped off that he’d be good by 20s defense of Baseketball in my last set of rankings. Cooper’s great on offense, he does everything that matters as well as you can expect out of a rookie wing. His low turnovers make up for his lack of rebounds, blocks and steals. In a couple years, he should routinely be in the top 10 in scoring for the rest of 5.0.
4. Bryant Crawford
-I like him, but he isn’t as good as I think we all expected since he was the clear 1.1 pick. His rebounding and free throw shooting are very good, scoring volume and field goal percentage are pretty good, handles are okay (3.3 TOs aren’t that bad for a rookie), and three-point percentage is low as you’d expect. My concerns are with his defense, he doesn’t block shots and 1.2 steals aren’t anything special. Hopefully his numbers continue to improve since he didn’t get starter minutes that first sim.
5. Tacko Fall
-Tacko’s really interesting because of his scoring volume and size. Looks like his inside, strength and rebounding are maxed out. He’s only shooting 66% from the free throw line so I have my doubts that he can keep up that 46% field goal percentage. Will be interesting to see how well he scores once he has points put into his jumper. He could become an all-time great or just a better version of Andre Drummond, will depend on how his shot blocking grows.
HM to Jalen Brunson for having a really good season, it’s hard to make the top 5 in this deep of a class.
HHM to Tai Wynward for the 17 PPG on 46% shooting at 19.
MVP
1. Rashard Lewis-Best player on the team with the best record in the league. Lewis is having his most efficient season since 3046. Feels like Lewis has been in this top five every time I’ve done this and he’s still only 28.
2. Luke Ridnour
-Ridnour is having a ridiculous season so far averaging 32 PPG on 53.6% shooting overall and 53.2% on threes. If he stays healthy and continues to shoot even close to these percentages he should lead the league in win shares.
3. Ben Simmons
-Simmons has become the poor man’s Lebron, but without the TOs. This year he’s putting up his best defensive numbers with 2.5 BPG and 1.9 SPG, while averaging 10.9 RPG and 26 PPG on 48.2% shooting. I’m making it official, Simmons is a superstar.
4. Chris Paul
-After a few down seasons, Paul is back to playing like a top five PG. His FG% is back up to 48% and he’s shooting a career best 44.1% on threes. His 11.4 APG makes him the favorite to get the software’s MVP vote.
Lebron James, Marvin Williams and Colin Sexton are all having great seasons, but I can’t put them in the top 5 with their teams under .500 so there will be no #5.
East Contenders
1. Pacers
-By far the deepest team in the league, they’ve got lotto picks like Doug Remer, Scott Pollard and PJ Dozier getting hardly any PT. Lue and Ewing are still playing at a high level, Tskitishvili and Cooper are a solid wing duo that complement each other well and Hightower is an underrated D/R big. I expect them to win 60-65 games and the Central.
2. Rockets
-Their big three are all playing well, Chris Paul looks like he’s back to playing at an MVP level. Their +8.6 point differential suggests they may not be 27-7 good, but still look to be a top 3 team in the league. They should win at least 60 games and compete with the Pacers for the 1 seed.
3. Heat
-Reggie Theus is still playing at a pretty high level, but it’s Ben Simmons’ team now. Amare and Charlie Hardnett are playing really well. Jimmy Jackson is okay, this team could use an upgrade at SG though. Team should win the Atlantic pretty easily now that it’s the worst division in the league.
4. Knicks
-Butch Lee and Mario Elie at 35 and 34 are still balling, making the most of what may be their last ride together. Eric continues to find quality depth in the free agent scrap heap. This may be the oldest team we have ever had (average age is 32.67). And with that, I’d like to take the opportunity to mention that I own the Knicks 52 first and it is OTB.
5. Bucks
-I had no idea who to put at 5 since many teams in the conference are underachieving, so I decided to give the young Bucks some love. I already praised Wilton, Zach Collins looks like a really nice prospect that I wish was playing SF, DeAndre Ayton looks good, Brandon Ingram is no longer complete garbage and Melo is shooting really well. This team has a bright future and should be contending for championships in a couple seasons.

West Contenders
1. Sonics-You’re damn right I think I have the best team in the west. I think my starting five is the best in the league, with Ridnour, Carter and Slava all being elite for their positions. But my bench has been terrible, which is why I’d like to take this opportunity to again mention that I own the Knicks first in 52 and that it is on OTB.
2. Spurs
-Three-time western conference champ that is going to be a bitch to beat in the playoffs. Especially now that Monta Ellis has become one of the best shooting guards in the league.
Monta Ellis PG 25 37.8 26.9 6.7 4.6 2.3 0.2 2.4 .484 .929 .434
I don’t see anyone in the Midwest challenging them for a top two seed, they should go on a run once Lonzo Ball starts shooting like he normally does.
3. Warriors
-Warriors are probably the pleasant surprise of the first third of the season. Dick McGuire and Justin Patton are having the best seasons of their careers and Doncic/Jackson is one of the best wing duos in the league. They do everything pretty well and have a +10.6 point differential so I wouldn’t be shocked if they were to continue to challenge for or even win the Pacific.
4. Blazers
- Jason D Williams is now a 30 PPG scorer and Majic found a way to fall ass backwards into another really good player with Josh Howard, who is having an incredible year.
Josh Howard SF 26 38.0 27.4 7.9 3.0 1.8 0.8 2.0 .486 .822 .431
Somehow, Howard and Bentl (14,412,788) are combining to make less than a mil more than Kyle Korver (13,750,000). This team will challenge the Warriors and Sonics for the Pacific if they can get another big.
5. Jazz
-I’ve got the Jazz at 5 since I’m not a believer in the Grizzlies because of their wings and I expect Dunn to bounce back after a rough start. This is the only team in the division that could possibly challenge the Spurs. Spl does have those two Mavs picks and Monk to use in a trade to acquire that star wing that he is looking for.
Disappointments
1. Hawks-This is an impressive championship hangover. MKG must have been the glue and it doesn’t help that Ntilikina and Morris are shooting below 45%. They should still make the playoffs once their backcourt recovers.
2. Lakers
-We knew there would be a drop off from last season after they lost Williams and Allen, but not this much. They won 65 games last season and now they’re somehow 9-15 with a -1.4 point differential. Rough way for Ian to retire from GMing.
3. Raptors
-What the hell happened to T-Mac? How do grades of A A- B- A B+ equal this type of production.
Tracy McGrady SF 22 36.1 21.8 8.5 3.6 1.5 0.7 1.0 .416 .851 .386
These were his numbers last season.
Tracy McGrady SF 77 38.0 32.4 9.0 4.2 1.3 1.3 1.6 .471 .852 .370
On a positive note, look at these numbers from Fultz.
Markelle FultzPG 26 38.2 27.6 6.5 4.9 2.2 2.0 2.2 .481 .888 .407
It might be time to give him another shot at PG if the team continues to struggle.
4. Braves
-This team should be better with Marvin Williams having an incredible year, and MKG/Davis are still high caliber players for their position. They need to find a way to get an upgrade to Nate Robinson at PG or at least get another starting quality big to play next to Davis.
5. Celtics
- Last season they made the ECF, this season they’re 11-18 and Jason C Williams refuses to start. Come back @dumptime or take this team Bankz and flip franchise names with Lip.
Players That Should Be Moved
-The Celtics next GM doesn’t necessarily need to trade Williams, but they don’t have much talent around him and he can be used to get the assets to build their own team. There are 4-5 teams trying to compete that could really use a PG like Williams. 1. Jason C Williams
2. Larry Bird/John Long/Eddy Curry/Damian Lillard
-This core hasn’t made it out of the first round together and are just 2 games above .500. Long and Bird are both 35 with high cap figures, but can still play and have some value. Lillard and Curry are both 33 and on affordable deals that Ayyoe should be able to get a decent return for them.
3. Tyson Chandler
-Lip seems to be a big fan of Georgios Papagiannis since he’s starting him over Chandler. Chandler is way too good to be playing only 15 MPG. The Bulls have no chance to do anything of significance if the even make the playoffs, might as well get some value back for Chandler who is on just a 1 year deal.
4. Lebron James
-This is tough for 2Poor because it’s impossible to get a return that would equal the value of the best player in the league, but this team is 7 games below .500 even with Lebron and they have very little talent around him. The Kings own all their own picks starting next season and will soon have a ton of cap space, if they could get two-three really good young players they could rebuild quick to have a contending team for a run to end 4.0.
5. Pacers Depth
-Heebs has a bunch of former lotto picks getting no PT. He’ll never have the cap room to resign them all or even give them the PT to get a feel for their value. It would be out of character for Heebs to make an all-in move and trade away youth, but I’d like to see him make a move for Lebron, for real this time. Heebs offer 2Poor something with Niko and Cooper included for Lebron, collect your two or three more titles with Lue and Lebron, and let’s stick a fork in 4.0.
