I decided to do a redraft article because there is random rankings fatigue and we haven't had one of these in a while.
1. Raptors - Tracy McGrady SF 19 6'8'' 210 B+ B- C+ C+ C+ A
Who should have went 1.1 - Tracy McGrady SF 19 6'8'' 210 B+ B- C+ C+ C+ A
This was absolutely the right pick due to McGrady's huge upside and because wings are so much more valuable than bigs. A lot of people thought that Tim Duncan should have gone 1.1 after his incredible summit performance (the top 3 picks of this draft were made before summit was posted). It's nice to see that Pete has proven to have chosen wisely after he took some grief right after the draft. After a rocky first two seasons, McGrady became one of the best young wings in the league in year three, then became one of the best players in the league by year four. Props to 20s for the build of McGrady, his sim stats come really close to matching his irl stats.
2. Bullets - Tim Duncan PF 6'11'' 250 22 A- C- C A- A B
Who should have gone 1.2 - Chauncey Billups PG 6'3'' 202 21 C+ B C+ B C A
Duncan has been great, but point guards are so much more valuable than bigs. The Bullets are currently 15-27, I bet if the Bullets swapped Billups for Duncan they would be 22-16 like the Lakers. Billups has been one of the best point guards in the league the last few seasons and looks to be a future perennial MVP candidate. It's a shame he still doesn't have a GM. Come back one more time tyler 3001 .
3. Lakers - Chauncey Billups PG 6'3'' 202 21 C+ B C+ B C A
Who should have gone 1.3 - Tim Duncan PF 6'11'' 250 22 A- C- C A- A B
Duncan's having a rough start to this season, but the stats during those first five seasons are beautiful. He was a top three big in the league during his rookie year, and became the best in the league by year two. Sadly, having the best big in the league hasn't and rarely leads to great team success. And this is largely why I hate this software and want to go to.....
4. Bobcats - Keith Van Horn SF 6'10'' 220 22 B B D+ C+ B B
Who should have gone 1.4 - Tim Thomas SF 6'10'' 230 20 B- B- C B- C+ A
Tim Thomas was obviously never as good as Billy was trying to hype him up to be, but he was never as bad as most of the league had said he was during his FA year. People were just trying to shut Billy up and cancel out his obnoxiousness. Lol at Billy not offering Thomas because he thought Thomas would win him too many games during his tank, the Kings currently have 1.1 odds with fucking Lebron. Back to Thomas, he does everything pretty well, the only knocks on him could be his turnovers and that he isn't a volume scorer yet. I could easily see him averaging close to 30 PPG in a few seasons.
5. Nuggets - Antonio Daniels PG 6'4'' 195 22 B- B- B B- D+ B
Who should have gone 1.5 - Keith Van Horn SF 6'10'' 220 22 B B D+ C+ B B
Daniels has been a bust, but I do think he could have been good if he was draft by a GM that put points into their players. As for Van Horn, he has had a strange career. During his rookie year a lot of us thought he was going to be the next Larry Bird, hasn't worked out that way because his shot blocking somehow stopped growing, then nosedived during his third season. He also hasn't become the volume scorer we thought he'd become. He's still a solid small forward due to his rebounding and shooting percentages. He should be a good fourth best player for contending caliber teams for the next five seasons.
6. Suns - William Gates PG 6'0'' 195 21 B- B C+ C+ C- A
Who should have gone 1.6 - Mikki Moore PF 6'11'' 225 22 C+ C- D B+ B- B
Gates isn't that bad anymore, and I'll get to him later. D/R bigs make up most of this back half of the lotto and Moore looks like the best of the bunch right now. Moore's shot blocking is down this season, but he should be back above 3 BPG next season.
7. Hawks (from Grizzlies) - Tim Thomas SF 6'10'' 230 20 B- B- C B- C+ A
Who should have gone 1.7 - Scot Pollard C 6'11'' 265 22 B- C- D B B- B
#FreePollard, greedy Heebs continues to bring Pollard off the bench while the rest of the league is desperate for D/R bigs. Looks like poor Scot is just going to have to wait for Ewing to retire. I have Pollard below Moore because he shoots more and turns it over more.
8. Heat - Stephen Jackson SF 6'8'' 218 19 B- C+ C+ C+ C A
Who should have gone 1.8 - Derek Anderson SG 6'5'' 194 23 B- B C+ B C C
I thought about putting Anderson #6, but he hasn't played at all this season. He somehow fell to 1.21 back during this draft because I'm assuming people were scared of his C potential. He's been solid since day one and should probably be somebody's starting shooting guard right now. He's similar to Van Horn in that he'd be a good fourth best player for a contending team.
9. Spurs - Mikki Moore PF 6'11'' 225 22 C+ C- D B+ B- B
Who should have gone 1.9 - William Gates PG 6'0'' 195 21 B- B C+ C+ C- A
Gates can score with volume and that's really all he can do. He was definitely written off as trashola too soon by everyone but Fecta. I don't think he'll ever be a starter for a contending team because of his TOs and lack of overall game, but he should be a nice back up point guard for the rest of his career.
10. Nets (from Celtics) - Scot Pollard C 6'11'' 265 22 B- C- D B B- B
Who should have gone 1.10 - Ed Gray SG 6'3'' 210 22 B B- C C+ C- B
Gray's the lone second rounder on the list (2.4) and probably the current best contract in the league (7 years for 1.8 mil a year). By no means a stud or future star, but he's solid everywhere and is a really nice back up shooting guard.
11. Hawks (from Bucks via Grizzlies) - Adonal Foyle C 6'10'' 250 22 B- D D- A- B+ B
Who should have gone 1.11 - Adonal Foyle C 6'10'' 250 22 B- D D- A- B+ B
This feels like the right spot for him, he could have been up there with Moore and Pollard if he was getting more PT and didn't average so many TOs for his career.
12. Magic - Maurice Taylor C 6'9'' 260 21 B C D+ B- B- B
Who should have gone 1.12 - Stephen Jackson SF 6'8'' 218 19 B- C+ C+ C+ C A
Taylor was a bust that is now out of the league and Jackson is finally showing some signs of life. Jackson was only a teen when he came into the league, so he could be one of those players that doesn't fully develop until they're 25 or 26. His grades are starting to look pretty nice (B- A- C+ B+ C+ B) and I expect his production to begin to match his grades in a couple seasons.
13. Trailblazers (from SuperSonics via Raptors) - Arthur Agee PG 6'2'' 180 20 C+ C+ B B- D+ B
Who should have gone 1.13 - Mark Blount C 7'0'' 230 22 C+ D D+ B B- B
At this point there weren't many other players to pick from and Blount has been a decent third big throughout his career. He doesn't offer much as a rebounder, but blocks a good amount of shots and doesn't hurt you with his offense.
1. Raptors - Tracy McGrady SF 19 6'8'' 210 B+ B- C+ C+ C+ A
