Good morning sim league GMs!
Welcome to your Monday Morning special edition of Simon Says: 3051 Mock Draft.
Enjoy!
1. New Orleans Pelicans
Estaban Weaver
19 SG 6'3" 230 Tallahassee JC
B- B- C B- C A
Weaver is a good pick for the Pelicans as they are still a few years from competing. We like Weaver more than Snoop because he is only 19, has the potential to get to 6’4” with a competent GM. That said, with a nightmare teen TC Esty could be the next Chalky and fail to live up to the hype.
2. Milwaukee Bucks
Snoop Pearson
21 SG 6'0" 180 Baltimore CC
B- B- C- B- C A
Duc got lucky as hell jumping to #2 in this draft. Snoop is a no brainer at #2 for the Bucks, who need a good wing. With a good rookie TC she could supplant Doug Remer as SG of the future for the Bucks.
3. Kansas City Kings
Omar Little
26 PG 6'1" 220 Baltimore CC
B A- C+ B+ C- C
Omar steps into the Kings line-up as their starting PG. Ideally he gets a quick +14, but the Kings likely need a new GM for that to happen. Look for the Kings to make a splash in FA signing at least one max player to go with Lebron and Omar, and then use their remaining cap space to fill in the gaps. Could the Kings go from 1.1 odds to the playoffs in a season? Oh, indeed!
4. Chicago Bulls
Marlo Stanfield
19 SG 6'3" 200 Baltimore CC
C+ B C B- C A
This Bulls roster is a giant nothing-burger of shit. Bogut should have been traded ages ago for a decent return. Friedman looks like he could be a competent starter. Beyond that, utter shit. Enter Marlo Stanfield, a terrific looking wing that knows how to block shots. He could be the man to turn things around in Chicago – a team that’s been in ruins since Oscar was traded.
5. Washington Bullets
Brindley Wright
21 SF 6'8" 220 Florida
B B C C+ C+ B
Kn knows a thing or two about building championship caliber teams, and they start with the PG and wings. In this case, it’s going to be difficult to skip on this offensive monster at 5. Ideally he’d be more productive on the defensive end, but with SG eligibility and C+ rebounding already, there is always hope that those skills grows.
6. Washington Bullets (from Hornets)
Avon Barksdale
21 PG 6'3" 200 Baltimore CC
C+ B- B- C+ D+ A
The Bullets take the BPA in Barksdale, who will provide healthy competition in practice with Irief. Plus this helps KN’s tank as it lets him start scrubs at 3 of the 5 positions with only PG and SG locked up with Wright and Avon/Irief.
7. Buffalo Braves (from Mavericks via Jazz)
Slim Charles
23 C 6'10" 270 Baltimore CC
C C C B B- B
This is where things get interesting. The Braves have a very good squad and likely take the player best able to help them immediately. To us that looks like a D/R big. With two choices available, we went with Slim Charles based on name recognition. Even though he has the B potential, that could be a good thing as it limits his inside offense gains, while he should start with high blocking and good rebounding.
8. Orlando Magic
[Just] Wallace
17 G 5'9" 140 Baltimore West High School
C C+ C C D+ B
Based on recent drafting trends, we have Wallace slotted to the Magic.
9. San Diego Clippers
Elton Tyler
22 C 6'10" 235 Miami
A- C D+ C+ C+ A
One thing about Yawn is that he is not afraid to buck a trend. In this case, it’s drafting a shot hogging big man. Tyler should be the next great sim league big with his size, scoring skills, defensive base, and great potential.
10. Cleveland Cavaliers
Karim Shabazz
22 C 7'2" 260 Providence
C- D+ C- B B- A
With a crowded backcourt and wing rotation, Shaun goes BPA with an elite D/R big. Shabazz won’t give you anything on offense, which will free up shots for Crawford and the wings.
11. Cleveland Cavaliers (from Knicks)
Terrance Morris
23 SF 6'8" 200 Maryland
B- B- C B- C+ B
We’re going off-profile here to give Shaun some depth at the wing position and a player that, with a good TC, could be an immediate starter in Cleveland. With only big men profile players left and Bad Santa Brunner, the Cavs take a risk here on Morris.
12. Minnesota Timberwolves
Chris Burgess
21 PF/C 6'10" 220 Utah
B C+ C- B- B- A
The Wolves, who are starting on a rebuilding project, need sure things. Burgess is as close to a sure thing as there is at this point in the draft. He likely will never become a HoF type player, but he will be a credible offensive player with the potential to be an elite defender. In a league that valued two-way bigs, he’d be a top 10 pick.
13. Utah Jazz
Casey Calvary
22 PF/C 6'8" 240 Gonzaga
B C+ C B- B- A
With a glut of talent at the wing and guard, SPL goes with another two-way big. Calvary could be a Dirk-ish PF for the Jazz. He should block shots, rebound well, and shoot the three. He may need some SC/RC help on his jumper – but that just means his 3pt shot will start higher. He could be a gem at the end of the lotto.
