Got this idea from a baseball blogger who built a team that would be favored to win every World Series title for the next 10 years. I figured it would be a good idea for here.
Here are the rules.
No more than 1 player from each team.
Must stay under the soft cap. (this allows room to theoretically resign players)
This game assumes no draft picks will be added to the team
There is no adding players in the theoretical future, any older guys that are picked who retire would be replaced with min salary scrubs.
C:
At center we have Moses Malone of the Brooklyn Nets. at 15 million he is expensive, but at only 25 and signed for 4 more years, he is a must have on this team. Moses provides elite grades and production while also still having B potential. At 26 points per game, he is a force inside and on this team would likely be the third scoring option. He also throws in almost 4 blocks a game. You really can't find a better option as the starting center for this team.
C:
The Cleveland Cavs representative is Hakeem Olajuwon. Even though he hasn't played a regular season game yet, he had a monster pre-season and his grade set makes him the perfect back up Center for this roster. At bare minimum he will provide great defense and rebounding to this team. However, it would not be a surprise in the slightest if he develops into the best player on this roster. Olajuwon will be hitting his prime right when Moses starts to fall off a bit. This position will be the backbone of the roster.
C: total salary used $17,773,881
PF:
$3,447,164
The Knicks get their man on the roster in Dave Greenwood. At only 25, he is a long term solution at PF and on this team would not be a scoring option despite averaging 29/12. His huge value to this roster comes from averaging 3.3 blocks per game while also getting a steal a game as well. A slight downside on Dave is that he would need to be re-signed to a max deal after this season, but his 3.5 million contract fits perfectly for now.
PF:
Sam finds himself as the backup PF on this roster almost by default. The bullets need a representative and the PF position is really weak in the East. The only real talent is high priced and not worth it with a 50 million hard cap. at minimum Sam projects to be a defensive presence on this roster with an outside chance at being an elite scorer if he develops. The sky is the limit, so even though he is a backup right now, he could end up the best player on the team 5 years from now. Due to the nature of how this roster is being built, Perkins may need to play some SF as well on this team.
PF total salary $6,111,199
SF:
At 18 million Adams is an expensive piece to this roster. but he is also the cornerstone for the first 5 years. His grades are outstanding and the production is even better as he put up 30 points on 50.3% shooting. There is no doubt who the leader of this team is. The Celtics SF will be the focal point of the offense and would rack up more than a few MVPs along the way.
SG:
That first TC wasn't very promising. However, money is extremely tight and the options are even tighter. This is a hope pick. Here's to hoping the first TC was an aberration and Jordan will have an all star caliber career. At minimum Jordan is cost controlled for 4 years and won't need to be re-upped for a bit. Even if it doesn't work out for Sim Jordan, the roster is stacked enough to survive Jordan busting as long as his defense doesn't take a shit.
PG:
Reeves gets the starting spot at PG for two reasons. First, I am a homer and am going to pick "my" guy, and second, he is a damn good PG on a rookie contract. With money tight, there isn't a better fit for this roster. Reeves isn't a perfect player, his 3pt percentage has been mediocre and his assist totals are not where you want them to be. He does shoot at a good percentage and is fresh off a +4 TC and still has A potential. Reeves will be the starting PG on this team for all 10 years of this "game". He also slides in as the 2nd scoring option in the balanced attack.
Super Sub-
$2,129,657
The Hornets sneak a man onto the roster simply because he fits under the 50 million dollar hard cap and can play multiple positions and still has B potential. He will likely play sparingly unless there is an injury.
