1. We recently had a great article about the grades and the way everything is spread out so far in 4.0. There has also been a lot of talk about grade inflation and the way it will affect the league. What are your thoughts on the way the league looks as of now?
RW- I think it's starting now. Derrick Coleman shouldn't have better grades than Hakeem. We need to be careful, but there is so much combined knowledge of the software with numerous commishes as GM's. Defense is inflated now imo, the average defender should be B-B+ not A-.
Buster- The league is in great shape right now in my opinion. There's scarcity at certain positions like SG and PF, there's some great talent at SF, at PG there's a few elite guys and a lot of really good ones, but there's always going to be a lot of good point guards in this software. I think Odin is doing a good job, as well as Druce. Hopefully we can keep it like this without the league getting over-inflated with talent.
Dump- I don't think there is much inflation in this league yet. Besides defensive grades, which are still iffy because so much goes into them. Plus we are still only one full draft class into the league, and Odin is doing a good job of curbing it by giving players like Grant Hill random low grades.
H/T- As of right now I think the grades and talent in the league is about where it should be. Of course grade inflation will be an issue at some point but we still have a ways to go I think before that is truly something to bitch about.
2. I have seen discussion of rookies being too good or that after the first few prospects its goes really downhill. What are your thoughts on the way rookies have been made and is there anything you would change?
RW- I would nuke some of the future classes, as stated in the previous post there are some rookies who are a little out of control. I do like Druce experimenting with oddball guys like Godbolt. I want more busts!
Buster- Again, I think Druce and Odin are doing a good job here. I would've liked for Grant Hill to have better handles for selfish reasons, but overall I like Odin experimenting with guys and not making every player pretty much the exact same mold like it was for most of 2.0.
Dump- Obviously there are gonna be good rookies in the top of the draft. Not every rookie is gonna be a bust. If you make the draft deeper, than there is definitely gonna be inflation. In real life, the late 1st rounders really don't turn into anything either unless you are the Spurs.
H/T- I think Druce has been a fantastic draft master and I think that so far rookies are who we expect them to be with a few that I think may have been too good. I don’t think I rookie should come in and lead a stat category but to be in the top 10 is fine for the upper tier guys.
3. There is a lot of SEC! SEC! SEC! going on early as to be expected. What are your feelings on the way the league is set up? Are there too many better GM’s in one conference or division? Does it seem like a good balance so far?
RW- No, they're balanced, right now the West has a lot more talent but that sways with time. Look at the Heat making moves, same with the Knicks, Jazz are blowing it up etc.
Buster- I'd say the West is a little better than East in terms of overall quality and top tier GMs, but a lot of that has to do with the East having more newbies still learning the ropes of being an internet basketball GM. That said, there's no excuse for RW and Dump to be at or near the top of any division. That just looks bad. Get it together Eastern Conference GM's.
Dump- I mean there is really nothing to be done about this. Obviously the West is superior in terms of GMs, they have 3 out of 4 titles so far. Its just the way that the cookie crumbles, they all picked teams in the West instead of heading to the East and you had old GMs drop out of the East and replaced my newbs and/or average GMs.
H/T- If you look at the divisions and leagues I think each will go through spurts of being the best. Does it seem like some of the btter GM’s from past are log jammed? Sure. But Dump has had good teams and made good decisions got lucky. I haven’t been bad, RW has a solid team. As of this RT I think things are good, we can reassess after 10-15 sim years or so.
4. Wall/Cosuins/Other if you had the first pick and why?
RW- Give me Wall. Elite PG's seem to be tough to find, outside of Williamson (more of a SG), Westphal, Thompson and Magic elite PG's are lacking. His high handles combined with his suitable outside and elite inside (A rarity for a PG) would sway me to Wall. He can add an inch too. Another Magic.
Buster- I hate drafting bigs, but as of now my team is pretty set 1-4 so Boogie Cousins would have to be my pick. The chance of having a 7 foot, 305 lb beast of a center with ridiculous starting grades would be too hard to pass up.
Dump- Overall, I think Wall is the #1 pick. He is gonna be a gamechanger at PG. Especially with that B inside. He can do all 5 categories well, including C rebounding which is impressive and adds value to a PG.
H/T- I want Wall, I already have Hakeem and it seems like to win titles you need solid Guards more so than big men. However I wouldn’t fuss if I could have a Boogie/Dream tandem down low.
5. Barkley/Jordan/Hakeem which would you prefer to have and why?
RW- Jordan. Ya, he had a mediocre TC but he's at the most shallow position. He'll still develop into a stud, as will all of them. Positions not taken into account I'd go Barkely but SF/PF are the deepest positions in the league.
Buster- Barkley because he has awesome grades and awesome stats and would be a great successor to Dr. J and he's awesome.
Dump- As much as I would like to say MJ due to the rarity of good SGs in this league, I have to go with Chuck. The rookie looks like he is gonna be a better version of Kenon and this is only his 1st season. He can do everything, and he is better grade-wise at PF too. I think I love him
H/T- Barkley/Jordan/Hakeem is the correct order I think right now. Barkley is so good and will get better. I think Jordan will improve drastically over the next couple of years and become the best of the 3. Dream is great and I am thrilled to have him but still feel like those two are a little better.
6. There was a lot of talk about the wire and Handsome Pete V. Devine. How do you think Pete has done so far? Was he the correct choice or should Odin have given it to an established GM.
RW- Bullshit Devine should have gotten it. Why? That's just him bitching with no substance. I had pm'ed Odin asking for the next avilable job the week before then was the first in the thread that Odin posted asking who wanted to do it. Devine's just whining. Odin didn't handle it right, he made a thread asking who wanted to do it, then chose Pete when he hadn't posted. No one's gonna say Pete is doing a bad job, he's not.
Buster- Pete's a funny guy and I enjoy his wire updates. Devine's act is stale and he can't even do a damn DC within a 48 hour window. Him running the wire would've been a bad choice.
Dump- Pete was absolutely the right choice. With his articles and the wire, he is turning into a better version of Clown. Now all he has to do is be a better GM and not trade elite SGs for worthless picks.
H/T- I think Pete has been fantastic. Def the correct choice without a doubt in my mind.I do get the argument of giving it to an established GM but I also don’t think being someone who is established should be a qualification for anything.
7. The Bowie plus picks for Grunfield trade was a pretty controversial trade. Was this a veto worthy trade? No big deal? Your thoughts on how that went down?
RW- Yes it was veto worthy. It's a trade had I made would have absolutely been vetoed, complete double standard. People wanted to veto my Foots/Frazier for Dawkins/Barker/Wright trade and look at the end results of that. Foots is gone, Frazier is a leech on the league, and I flipped Dawkins (who is good), signed Barker long term, and flipped Wright for Doug Collins. That was suppose to be vetoed, and this isn't?
Buster- It was a stupid trade by Ankly because he probably could've done Grundfield for Bowie straight up or maybe Bowie and a single pick at most, but I don't care for vetoes. Especially when it's a deal between two GM's who have been around awhile.
Dump- It was not really veto worthy, just a really bad trade. I get it that Bowie was a hatchet job by Odin and Ankly has threatened to quit over that multiple times. Those three picks aren't worth much anyways since JHB will just trade them to someone else for some players so he can stay in mediocrity longer and not get out of the first round. I just don't think Grunfield is that good tbqh. He is not someone you should trade 3 picks for no matter how shitty the picks are.
H/T- This is so tough because I can easily see both sides but my choice would have been to not veto. I don’t really care too much because if both GM’s agree then whether I feel it’s a good trade or right doesn’t matter.
8. Dump almost killed the league by trying to sign Frazier. Should he have been able to sign him, whats the best way to solve these issues with buy outs and cut players that are “good”.
RW- No. The problem with this cutting was Dirt didn't care. He tried to cite the rule that says tanking teams can't cut their best players and he was't tanking. Well, who the hell cares if they're tanking or not, you shouldn't be able to cut your best players for no reason. The final ruling was perfect, seems like you have to push Odin to make decisions but once you do he'll come down with authority.
Buster- I'd like to see something like 20's buyout proposal used for when a guy like Frazier gets cut, although that was a stupid cut by Dirt in the first place and should never happen.
Dump-
H/T- I agree with most that it probably should have never been an issue from the start but I do like the proposed plan that was done by 20’s and think that thread brought out some good discussion on what we should look at doing.
9. The Jordan draft class was highly anticipated for a few years, which two draft classes are you looking forward to the most. The class doesn’t have to be announced yet.
RW- I don't have picks forever but Wall/Cousins is easily the best draft class because Devin Harris is in there. He'll be a stud just like he was in 2.0.
Buster-Well outside of Waverly-Shell Rock legend Brian Bruns, Kobe Bryant is my favorite basketball player of all-time. So I'm definitely looking forward to Kobe, AI, Nash, Shuttlesworth, 3.0 Timberwolves legend Kerry Kittles, and the rest of that '96 class. The '95 class is very intriguing as well since it was easily the best class of 3.0. KG, Joe Smith, Stack, 'sheed, Big Country, the list goes on.
Dump- 1996 and 2003 classes are gonna be so legit. 1996 you have AI, Kobe, Ray Allen, Camby, Starbury, Shareef Abdur Rahim, Kerry Kittles, Antoine Walker, Peja, Nash, Jermaine O'Neal, Big Z, and Derek Fisher. 2003 you have LBJ, Darko, Melo, Bosh, and Wade. Just insane talents to introduce into the league.
H/T- 1996 with AI, Starbury, Camby , Ray Allen, Kittles is probably my most anticipated with a tie at second between, 2007 with Durant, Noah and Conley among others will be a great class and 2003 with LBJ, Bosh, Wade, Melo.
10. Bankz has been stopping by a lot more recently and seems to want to get back in. Anyone you think should be close to being forced to resign for him to return? Should Odin stick with what he said and not welcome him back?
RW- It's good for the league to have Bankz biting at the ankles of inactive GM's. It's like Seattle afor the NBA, and LA with the NFL. Don't fuck up or there's someone more than willing to take your place. With that being said I hope Bankz comes back, would welcome him with open arms
Buster- Bankz joining and quiting like he did twice(?) already was pretty weak, but if he wants to come back and take over for someone inactive like rv I'd be okay with it.
Dump- No one should quit for anybody. If you are still enjoying this league and get your shit in time than you have a place here. And I don't care if Bankz joins or not, even though I hate him and he still is a scumbag.
H/T- Bankz is fine in my book. I think he has issues at time but I think we all do and as long as he stays around and doesn’t just quit again I have no issues. Good dude who used to put in a lot of time with the league not to mention other stuff he has done to keep TMBSL going.
