Way too early reassessment of my skewed perceptions
1.1-John Wall PG 19 6'5'' 200 B C+ B B- C A
John Wall PG 19 6'5'' 200 B B- B B+ C A
My original thoughts were that there was no doubt that Wall would easily become one of the best PG's in the year. After TC my thoughts are exactly the same. To go from those grades and add to them and knowing 2poor to be an active GM, well yeah watch the fuck out.
1.14- Al-Farouq Aminu SF 20 6'9'' 215 B- C C- B- C+A
Al-Farouq Aminu SF 20 6'9'' 215 B- C C- B B- A
Aminu had a really solid TC and I had originally looked at him as a potential role player and not much more. I felt he was a good pick but also gave 2poor too much credit with his next one that my opinion has to change a little. Good pick, not the correct pick necessarily. I do think there is a better chance Aminu could be a starter in a few years rather than just a role player.
1.24- Jarvis Varnado PF 22 6'9'' 210 C+ D C- B+ B C
Jarvis Varnado PF 22 6'9'' 210 C+ D+ C- B B C
Thought Varnado was a fantastic pick that should have gone higher and truly thought he was going to be on par with Scoonie. I was wrong, 2poor was wrong and this turns out to be a pretty crappy pick with what went after him or around him.
Original grade given- A
Reassessment Grade- B+
Wall is of course a great pick, but there was no risk there. However I am certainly not punishing a guy for making the obvious pick and taking the best player in the draft. I am however docking points as I felt Scoonie could have been the better choice at 1.14 and that turned out to be the case, and Varnado does nothing for me. While this grade did drop, I cant see 2poor being very upset at all.
1.5- Paul George SF 19 6'9'' 210 C+ B- C B- C A
Paul George SF 19 6'9'' 210 C+ B C B C+ A
Im not sure what happens when George moves to SG now at 6'9" and look forward to seeing, but after looking at the draft as a whole I think I and many others may have overvalued George after seeing a +2 at SG. Its too early to tell and still a fantastic pick and the correct pick but he certainly isnt the steal of the draft, more like another typical solid pick that a ton of GM's had in the 3005 draft.
1.16- Gordon Hayward SG 20 6'8'' 207 C+ B C C+ C B
Gordon Hayward SG 20 6'8'' 207 C+ A- C+ C+ C B
Still an incredibly solid pick and even though it doesn't have the importance of the George selection, this was just as important for the Cavs. If Hayward can be the scorer it looks like he is poised to be and improve his defense then I expect Hayward to be a quality contributor for quite a few years.

I think that even without the chance to draft Wall, the Cavs draft was on par with the Jazz and both made some great selections. Obviously the Jazz had an extra pick over the cavs and unfortunate that was a black eye for them, but I think in terms of selections and overall draft the B+ was correct, however I did waiver a little and thought about a drop to a B until seeing what happens with the inch added George.
1.4- Greg Monroe C 20 6'11'' 258 B- C C+ B- B- A
Greg Monroe C 20 6'11'' 258 B C C+ B+ B B
Monroe was seen as a risky pick and one that I questioned without even a shred of doubt. I said multiple times that George was the correct guy and overvalued my selection. I do want to say that I thought MJ would be just fine with the pick and I was right, well sort of, MJ made a great selection and very much arguably the better pick.
1.21- Elliot Williams SG 21 6'4'' 180 B- C+ C B C- B
Elliot Williams SG 21 6'4'' 180 C+ B- C B+ C B
I thought the Williams pick was an awesome one and when we should have started taking notice of the Magic draft, I was wrong of course. No not that it wasnt an awesome pick, because it was and it was a great fit for his team but we should have taken notice with that 4th pick. Williams flip flopped his grades and got a bump in TC. To get Williams at 21 was a good get.
1.25- Patrick Patterson PF 21 6'9'' 232 B- C C C+ C+ B
Patrick Patterson PF 21 6'9'' 232 B- C+ C B- B- A
Patterson was given a safe and obvious description of possibly being a guy that has the ability to blow in TC and was seen as a pretty safe pick. It was a safe and solid pick and Patterson had a very good TC to go along with the Magic and the Magic.Gotta commend MJ for the picks he made late to add to Monroe.
Original Grade Given- B
Reassessment Grade- A+
I was brazen enough to get in on the George hype and overlook MJ's draft as a whole and the Monroe pick that I am now a MJ apologist. I think the grade is obvious, and I also believe he had the best overall draft and in my eyes by a fair margin. The guys he got late is what really impresses me the most, not necessarily that he was correct about Monroe. That does hold weight though when everyone in this league questioned and bashed his decision.
1.2- DeMarcus Cousins PF 19 7'0'' 275 B C- D+ B- B A
DeMarcus Cousins PF 19 7'0'' 275 B+ C- D+ B- B+ A
I stated that the Thunder were lucky sons of bitches who got to jump up and make an easy decision. Thats the name of thegame though, luck and having talent fall to you somehow. Its a great pick and Boogie will be a great player, there's really not much more to add other than look at that size and the grades he possess.
1.15- Scoonie Saperstein C 18 6'11'' 273 C+ D D- B B- A
Scoonie Saperstein C 18 6'11'' 273 C D D A- B+ A
Scoonie was always viewed as a defensive only big that was a solid selection. I did however down play Scoonies abilities a tad bit comparing him Jarvis Varnado at 24 and Scoonie shut me up having an awesome TC making him one of the most improved guys. This pick to pair Scoonie with Thunder for the foreseeable future was a great one. Solid job JHB.
1.22- Greivis Vasquez PG 23 6'6'' 208 C+ B B C+ C- C
Greivis Vasquez PG 23 6'6'' 208 B- B+ B C C- C
lol h/t boy did you fuck up this assessment. Diamond in the rough, would have rather taken Ekpe except for the fact the Thunder already took Scoonie. Shows just how little I thought of Scoonie. Vasquez looks like a decent scorer but not much more and I think he projects more as a 2 guard but I dont know how much I see of him being a contributor for the Thunder.
1.28- Dominique Jones SG 21 6'5'' 213 B- C+ C C+ C A
Dominique Jones SG 21 6'5'' 213 C+ C+ C C+ C B
Took the easy way out with the 28th pick of the first round, just like I did with Patterson basically stating hey they could blow up or bust. Thought he had solid grades, but as I pointed out so did what seemed like everyone else. Unfortunately for the Thunder he didn't Patrick Patterson and he really did nothing of significance in TC. Just plain meh.
Original Grade Given- B
Reassessment Grade- B+
I was pretty much spot on with this Thunders draft but did slight them a little bit, and looking at Boogie and Scoonie and what they did with those two picks put them up there with the Jazz and Cavs. I think its basically as I pointed out before, I really like the big men but the last two picks of his first round weren't impressing me much and that hasn't changed after TC.
1.8- Lance Stephenson SG 19 6'5'' 210 B- C C C+ C A
Lance Stephenson SG 19 6'5'' 210 B- C+ C B C A
I do still think that given time Lance will be a solid player, I have a feeling he does have good potential but I still don't think this is who you take at 8 even after seeing him +3 in TC. The question is honestly though, who would you have chosen had you known the grades seeing who went a few picks after him. He took a chance he would blow up and he may still could.
1.13- Cole Aldrich C 22 6'11'' 245 B- C- D B- B- B
Cole Aldrich C 22 6'11'' 245 B C- D+ B B- A
Well Tyler sure did pull this out of his ass as it seems he just took a flyer on a player from a team he is a fan of. However like I stated before, once you start to glance at the draft file and who's left, it makes a lot more sense to take Aldrich and Tyler once again looks like hes playing us all. Good pick to end the lotto guys.
1.18- Trevor Booker PF 22 6'8'' 237 B- D+ C- B- B- B
Trevor Booker PF 22 6'8'' 237 B C- C- B B B
As I said in article number 1, fuck you Tyler. I was really interested in making my own homer Aldrich pick and I was just a few picks away from getting that chance via a trade. Booker had a great TC and could be someone flying under the radar as a pretty solid player in this class.
1.29- Landry Fields SF 21 6'7'' 210 C+ C+ C+ C+ C+ B
Landry Fields SF 21 6'7'' 210 C+ B- C+ C+ C A
The final pick of the first round was a bankz special that looked like there was a chance to blossom into someone worth having. However I did think James and Babbit may have been better and they were taken with the picks directly after his. After TC its basically evident that all three are the same in that neither was special. This was just a typical hope to get lucky late round pick that didn't boom.

While I undoubtedly don't agree with his selections sans Booker, I guess you have to give credit that Tylers draft was not very bad even though many of us projected it would be. Im not sure how much Odin has helped him, and thats not a slight to the whole commish joke but more of I would expect him to help his friend learn the league and I would do the same thing. Either he has learned well or he has gotten luck and learned on the way. Regardless he deserves the bump up in grade and a thumbs up for proving us all wrong once again.
